  1. I love to here from my puppy owners and love receiving photos. I and other puppy owners organise play dates so my dogs and their dogs can all catch up. We recently had a puppy catch up with 10 month old litter and there dad and 5 out of 8 came along (2 lived too far way, 1 had to work) Was the greatest fun and we plan to do it again when they are 1. I wouldn't want to breed if I never got feedback and photos or seeing them. Anyway puppy owners..... keep them coming!!! I'm thinking the breeder didn't receive the email. Give her a call and ask if she got it.
  2. Interesting thread! I could never go past a Border Collie but dogs I admire the looks and traits off are...... Border Collies + Australian Shepard German Shepard Belgian Shepard Irish Setter Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Golden Retriever Silky Terrier Yorkshire Terrier Papillion
  3. Yeh I'm not that strict at this stage but I understand where you are coming from. I do feel like people want to come for a drive sometimes just to take the family to the country. Some people even think my farm is some kind of wildlife sanctuary (because we rescue native animals) and I'm open to the public! lol My bitches are definately not stress from visitors though. They adore the attention and sometimes I have to put them away because they are sitting on everyones laps!! Also by 6 weeks I think they are pretty much over their pups!!
  4. Thanks guys...... I new everyone would have different views which is great. I normally have everyone up that wants to see them I think I'm just put back because I spent a long time with a lovely family a few weeks back and they really loved my dogs and were very excited about the upcoming litters but turned around and bought a byb pup 2 weeks later because they didn't want to wait. I shouldn't judge everyone based on that but it really upset me. Anyway I think I'll be sticking to no visitors until pups are 6 weeks old and people are welcome all other times when I'm available. My pups get enough socialisation and handling from my boys and dogs to begin with and I always worry about their immunities before that. Their health is my main concern at that age. I do love the relationship I have built with puppy buyers though!! Great families that regularly pop around with their gorgeous spoilt dogs!
  5. I'm just wondering what other breeders do when people/families want to visit your dogs? I'm getting so many enquiries of people coming down my way and wanting to meet my dogs. I have nothing to hide and my dogs love visitors but I'm extremely busy (shift worker, young children and animals) and also worry about sercurity as my website clearly advertises what pups I have. But I do understand that people want to meet the potentional parents of the pups and see where they are brought up etc etc... How much is too much. When letting people come up to choose pups at 6 weeks then come back to collect them at 8 weeks and then also having other people around the same time visit I feel like it's getting too much. What do others do?
  6. Could it be something like Toxoplasmosis? (found in the ground, passed around through cats and other animals faeces) What about the virus that has passed through kangaroo mobs in the past. I've heard there has been some more cases of blind kangaroos? I don't know alot about that virus but is it passed around from mosquitos? Very interesting. I would have thought some kind of virus or environmental factor.
  7. I like to be a close observer. If the first pup is taking a little too long I make her walk around which speeds things up alot. I normally let the mother do everything and I just make sure other pups are out her way and that she clear the sack from their heads. My bc's have always been great mums and easy whelpers and they look at me very concerned if I handle a pup when they are trying to clean it up etc..... I also rarely see a placenta as they are gone as the are coming out.
  8. If I've ever had a sick dog or hard to feed pregnant or feeding bitch I got chicken leg pieces of the bone and braise them lightly in olive oil and feed it to them warm. I haven't had one refuse it yet. You are better off giving your bitch 'puppy milk' then cows milk will upset her tummy more so. Keep trying different things with her and I find warm things really help. Warm chicken mince with cooked vegies, soaked dry food so it's wet etc etc..... Goodluck!!
  9. Zena had 6 pups over night!! (3am-7am) Here she is with her healthy litter!! Perfect little litter of 3 girls and 3 boys!! Individual photos and birth weights are up on my website. I now need some well earned sleep!!!
  10. My Bitch Zena is huffing and puffing away in the whelping box..... I expect to see some puppies sometime today or tonight!!
  11. Does her vulva swell and come down normally? I have a bitch here that she is very slighty inverted (not sure if that is the word) and am finding it hard to get a tie from a very experienced dog. Although she has had pups before. Question is are you acutally getting a good tie or more?
  12. I have a litter of Border Collies due Good Friday!! Soooooo excited!!! I'll post some photos of her gorgeous belly tomorrow!!
  13. They are close if I hear them and by the time I get to the back door they have stopped. Go back to bed and just get to sleep and they do it again.
  14. Hi I have a few dogs on a large property but recently they have taken to howling a few times a night. I don't hear them but they disturb my husband and probably distant neighbours. Any ideas of what I can do to reduce the incidence of them howling? They do it for about 30 seconds and up to 2 minutes at a time. They are yarded at night and all of them have company. Will a radio help? What are they howling at? I used to think it was when one of the bitches was in season but now it seems every night. Thanks.
  15. The link that HANNAH posted is great...... explains it all!! Thanks HANNAH! Canada is in the same catagory as USA. Whilst we are on the subject does anyone know of any good breeder directory websites like DOL for UK based breeders?? The UK Kennel club has very little info on the actual breeders.
  16. Excellent. Looks like UK is the way to go rahter than America....... not sure I could do that to a pup/dog. What about Canada? I've had a puppy swap enquiry from there? I'll have to do some more research!!
  17. Hi all, Just wondering what are the rough time it takes to import a pup from USA or UK. Also do people generally know the costs involved. (very rough I would expect)
  18. Yeh I get chicken/pet mince from my butchers. Lots of the chicken butchers like Leonards have chicken mince for pets which is the carcuses/bones minced up. It's is great for putting on weight and I really have to restrict my ones that easily put weight on from eating too much. I give it to mine raw stirred through a good qauility dried food or some people like to cook it up with vegies and rice etc.... Just depends on what your dog will eat.
  19. Vet seems to think maybe it was 1080 after all that. He thinks maybe she got a very small dose of it after eating a bit of dead fox or dead bird that had been affected. We may never know but boy are we happy she is still Alive!!
  20. South of Adelaide around Kangarilla area. It's only heresay at the moment so I know nothing more than a few dogs ate something that killed them in that area. The dog in OP was a few suburbs over. I don't think any dog is safe roaming in country areas for more than just poisoning reason. Many people in my area (Mount Compass) bait for foxes as the Alexandrina council issues land holders with them. Please everyone keep your dogs close to home!!
  21. Yes she looks to be over the worst. Vet thinks it's some kind of bait or poison. Hopefully she will be going home tomorrow. Eating and drinking well and tests came back today with all good for her organs! I am soooooo relieved and I thank you guys for your kind words and thoughts! She is 1 very lucky girl....... a couple of other dogs not so far away have come in with same symptoms (vomiting, convulsing, temperature etc etc) and have not made it. Some investigating is being done into the cause.
  22. Sorry guys. She is continually improving. I'm just waiting on a phone call myself. They got a heap of tests back today and it doesn't look like 1080 poisoning thankfully altough it looks like she has some organ damage. Stay posted.... I'll be back.
  23. Yes I have heard there are some links. It wasn't long after they started using 1080 that the devils started showing these tumors. My neighbours use them here. He loves dogs and tries his hardest to put them out at night and pick them up in the morning. Doesn't help we also have alot of crows that have been known to pick them up and drop them. I'm always cautious of what my dogs are doing when we go for runs in case they pick something up.
  24. Well she made it through the night. Maybe it isn't 1080? She is back at the local vets on a drip. Still vomits occassionally and had a horrific temperature last night and bleeding. I was too scared to ring my friend this morning. She is a homebred dog who is very close to my heart too. Anyway I'll keep you posted when I know more.
  25. Yeh I was wondering the same. I only talked to her very briefly and the owner was rather upset understandably. (vet guessed possible poisoning but I'm not sure what they did or exactly what her symptoms are/were) I'll let you know when I know more.
