It's most probably a mild form of lupus which is aggravated by sun light. The best thing you can do is keep the dog out of the sun as much as you can. There is a good sunscreen called "Filta-Bac" which is great as it's also a Antifungal and Antibacterial which you can apply when you are out in the sun especially this time of year. I found it online but not in shops.

Hand Raising A Pup And Need Ideas For More Weight Gain?
Wilderblu replied to Wilderblu's topic in Breeders Community
I do have some..... I'll give it a try! Don't know why I didn't think of that! Thanks. -
Hi all, I just popped in here to see if anyone had any ideas to get weight on a pup I'm raising. She was born in a litter of 8 and was full of fluid when born which took me along time to clear and she continually rolled away from the litter and mum didn't care too much for her. I kept putting her on mum so she got a fair bit of milk the first 2 days but the rest of the litter was also struggling to put weight on and she only stayed active when I put her on heat in a basket. Anyway I'm now raising her and I sup feed the rest of the litter until they went forward and they are all thriving now. She was 188gms at birth which is very small for a Border Collie and is still going at 11 days old. Although she drinks well and is strong she's not gaining weight like she should be. Around 4-5gms a day which isn't good enough in my eyes as she's having 3 hourly feeds around the clock. The first week she had 2 hourly feeds around the clock. She is on wombaroo with a smidge of nutrigel in each bottle and drinks a touch more then advised volume for her weight. She had nice bowel and bladder movements too. I'm a wildlife carer so have raised many tiny animals but this little girl has got me confused! lol Thanks for any ideas. ;)

Possible. My 3 girls always come in about the same time. Early last time at 4 months & a week. One that has got pregnant previously with only 2 matings & once with a quick slip mating did not get pregnant this time despite 2 matings with a tie, so its quite a possible reason. If he has not succeeded in getting her pregnant for 2 entirely seperate seasons & matings & they are both fine mated to other dogs maybe it is natures way of telling you something. Another stud dog now will complicate things if she has already got pregnant from the slip mating. Yeah last 2 seasons have been 4 months apart where normally she would be 7 months apart. I'm hoping she will now have a break and go another 6-7 months and maybe have a real season otherwise it's of to the vets I think and possibly another stud dog maybe. ;)

I was thinking the other day that she has come into season synchronising with another bitch both times and actually out of synch for her "normal" so possibly not a proper season?
-
Sorry..... didn't mean to confuse. lol I have put them together for 2 different seasons. He tried from day 10-15 each time plus she was mega flirty and standing for him over this time. Penetration with no tie. She has no obstruction and he has tied with ease another bitch near her second season and doesn't behave or appear sore in anyway.
-
I'm just wondering the possible reasons behind a bitch and dog failing to tie or produce any pups? Bitch has tied and has successful litters with other dogs and dog has tied without any trouble and produced pups with other bitches. Bitch stands solid for him for 4-5 days and he tries his hardest but with no tie? Just wondering if anyone had any ideas? I've attempted 2 matings so far and thinking maybe another stud or maybe a repro vet?

I never used to take deposits but I find people wanting to pay them so they secure a puppy that they have been patiently waiting for so long. So I have starting taking a deposit that I state when they come to visit when the pups are 6 weeks of age and they don't like the pups or parents or anything I'm happy to return the money as I wouldn't want anyone feeling they are stuck with something they don't want or keep the money for another litter. I have never had that happen yet. I'd never take a deposit for puppies that are not even born yet. (unless it happened like just stated) The only thing I have found is you get the occasional person not wanting to put a deposit on something they have not met yet. But I'm strict on not letting people up until after pups are 6 weeks..... so if they are keen on securing a pup a deposit it paid when they are about 2-3 weeks old. It's early days yet but so far it's working!

For Bulldust..... sorry for hijacking the thread! Not full screen but a bit bigger. Here is "Dougy" the orphaned dorper lamb with Wallace and some other pups.
-
Thanks Bulldust! It is my favourite photo that I've ever taken. Just in the right place and the right time. It looks brilliant full screen!

Wombaroo fan here too. I've raised native animal orphans and supplemented pups on Divetalact and Wombaroo but Wombaroo gives much better weight gains.

Does Anyone Know Good Products To Seal Concrete In A Puppy Shed?
Wilderblu replied to Wilderblu's topic in Breeders Community
Cool! My neighbour has just given me some concrete sealer after I put stuff back in the shed! lol No chance of it being too slippery as we aren't very good concreters. I bit dodgy but will serve the purpose. -
I have a bitch whelp 7 live pups last year and had 8 milk producing teats. This time she had 10 puppies and has 10 milk producing teats! What a clever girl!!

The weirdest behaviour I've seen is my sons cat (called Mouse) suckling his ear as an 8 week old kitten. Now 15 months old still "hunts" his ears when he's trying to sleep. Last November I bought a new human baby home and she got so excited to see him and went straight for his ears too!! :D She got told off and doesn't go too close now but she's one strange cat but the type that lets the kids carry her around and wrap her up like a baby! So they love her just as much as sh does them!
