She is happy to pick up the collar and chew it. She will drag it along and chew it for ages. I had a little bit of success yesterday. I rewarded her for coming to me when I was holding the collar. Eventually, I put the collar on and after a few attempts, she was coming to me. Then, I was holding the end and she reluctantly came to me after calling her a few times. Her little eyes kept glancing towards the lead, then back at the treat, back to the lead and back to the treat but eventually she came. She did this about three times. Then she fell asleep with it on and woke up with her own personality back again. I took it off her then. I will try the same again tonight. Wow, what a process.

Ok, I have tried her on chicken necks and she absolutely loves them. I think she's had about four or so. My question is, I've been told that chicken necks are dangerous - a colleague heard a vet on the radio say never give puppies chicken necks - what are your views?

The first collar we tried may have been a little heavy, so we tried one of those Martingdale leads, which is so light. She absolutely hates that, too. Even if she sees it, she runs away. I have tried to make it fun for her but it's like her whole personality changes. She sulks and won't even come to me for a treat.

My 10 week old Cavalier hates her collar and lead. I am trying to get her used to it little by little. She has been wearing the lead and walking around with it for 20 minutes while we're at home watching but as soon as we take it in our hand, she sits and pulls backwards. She won't look at us and sulks. Her mood changes completely. I had a bit of success yesterday, enticing her with a treat and she did walk towards me while my fiance held the lead but she didn't realise he was actually holding it, I don't think. If she feels it pull at all on her neck, she fights it and gets really uptight. I want to make this a good experience for her and I know eventually that she'll know it means going for a walk and she'll look forward to it. I know she doesn't understand what it all means just now but how can I let her know that it's not a bad thing and not to get so upset about the whole experience? I have never tried to pull her along - I know that would only make it worse but even if I pick it up, she will not go anywhere.

What sort of bones can I give my 10 week old Cavalier?

Is Sentinel a small tablet or one she has to chew? I just want to make sure it goes down, that's all.

Sorry for all the questions but I've also been recommended Advocate by a friend of mine but this doesn't do tapeworm and is a spot on treatment, rather than a tablet. What are people's opinions on this product? What would you use to prevent tapeworm in this case?

Why is Sentinel Spectrum so much more expensive than Interceptor Spectrum? They read almost the same except that Sentinel treats fleas, too. Is that the only difference that makes it double the price? Also, I have read that you should get your dog tested for heartworm before treating them but do you have to get puppies tested, too or is it only if you're starting to treat older dogs? I thought that under a certain age, you just started treating for it automatically. Oh, and another thing, my puppy is only around 2kg. Are these heartworm treatments ok for her? Most of them say for between 4 - 11kg.

What is the best worming treatment for puppies - a 10 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The breeder had wormed her with Drontal - intestinal all wormer. I am going to give her another Drontal tablet tonight. Is there any brand that's better than others? I don't know if she has worms but this is the usual two weekly dose for puppies up until three months. I know I have to start her heartworm prevention in two weeks, so should I get one of those all in one chews or is this not as good as the separate medication. Also - flea treatment? What is the best way to go here? I am new to puppies and want to do everything right for her. Thank you.

Hi I have a 10 week old purebred Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and am looking for a vet in my local area. I have no idea what makes a good vet, so am looking for someone to give me a referral to one they know. I only want the best for my new baby. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
