  1. I know of a 5 week old rottweiler puppy that died from bloat (something I have never seen before),to say a dog under 30kg won't get it is very wrong. I hope he is fine but I wouldn't be using that vet again Cheers Lee
  2. Especially when last I spoke to him he owned a rottweiler(and donated a great seminar to our club for the Rottweiler National a couple of years back) and raved what a great dog he was. I think he needs to remember when talking about banning breeds the powers that be start pointing fingers at the Rottweiler. Regardless of my feelings for any breed once you open the door your breed could be next on the hit list and no one will care how responsible you are or in the fact your dogs have never caused any problems. Cheers Lee

  4. Below are part of the requirements from Rottweiler Club of NSW constitution but they are quidelines and members can appeal. Cheers Lee In order to breed from any Rottweiler it must conform to the following: a) Be free of any disqualifying breed faults b) Have Eye and Mouth Certificates signed by a Veterinary Surgeon that certifies the dog is free of entropian/ectropian and has full dentition with a scissor bite c) Have X-ray results, on NRC(A) paperwork, read by an accredited AVA panelist, that are within the following limits: (i) No individual hip score can be greater than 12 for dogs X-rayed on or after 1/1/99. (ii) Not be bred with a partner where the combined breeding score is greater than 20 (Note: appeals can be made to the Committee if a breeder wishes to breed above this breeding pair figure) (iii) All Rottweilers whelped after 1/1/97 must provide X-ray results for Elbows as well as Hips. [6.3.98] d) Meet the requirements of the Club’s Elbow Dysplasia Scheme that was implemented from 1 January 2002 [3.8.01]: (i) As elbows are graded individually, the higher of the two grades be taken as the overall grade and the following restrictions apply: Grade 0 can be bred to Grades 0, 1, 2 or 3 Grade 1 can be bred to Grades 0, 1, or 2 Grade 2 can be bred to Grades 0 or 1 Grade 3 can be bred to Grade 0 only. RCNSW Rules & Regulations as at 1st March 2010 26 5.7.4 Imported Rottweilers. Effective 1 December 1999, any Rottweiler that has been imported into Australia must have hip and elbows read and scored under the NRCA/Willis scheme. That is, any Club member who has imported, co-owns a dog or bitch, or who uses an imported dog at stud, that has been X-rayed and scored in a previous country of residence, where the owner has the Xray plates, only needs to have those plates re-read under the NRCA scheme (as long as those plates comply with the NRCA identification requirements). If however, they do not have the plates, or those plates are not correctly identified in terms of the NRCA scheme, then the dog/bitch must be re-X-rayed, read and scored under the NRCA scheme. Notes: 1. Imported Semen: Where imported semen is used by a member then: BVA/WILLIS scores 5 and under can be mated to the following: • OFA Fair • FCI HDB • VDH HD1 • ADRK HD+/- Scores 10 and under: • OFA Good • FCI HDA • VDH HD0 • ADRK HDScores 15 and under: • OFA Excellent All elbows must be X rayed Members can appeal to the Club for cases outside these scores on individual merit [1.12.00]. 2. Where the dog has died and semen is being used copies of previous results must be submitted as per normal practice. 3. For dogs/bitches whelped prior to 1 January 1997, elbow results are not compulsory. This is in line with Club requirements for all Australian bred Rottweilers. 4. This requirement is applicable to all members of the Rottweiler Club of NSW and for all litters. [7.8.99]
  5. My rotti Boy had his tonsils out after many goes at antibiotics, you wouldn't even know he had them out and he was eating the same night. I think like humans now they prefer to leave them in and treat with antibiotics but if the problem persist they take them out. He never went off his food or acted very sick at the time but he had a whitish phlem down his throat and would seem like his throat had closed a little sometimes causing him gag but not always I hadn't had a dog with this problem before and when they told me I felt like I had a 5 Year old child, taking him to hospital to get his tonsils out. My vet said they get a few shelties that get them removed. Hope your boy feels better Cheers Lee
  6. I'm really sorry to hear your news, I hope that your sadness will soon be replaced by the wonderful memories you have of your friend. Don't think of him as going away, his journey has just begun, life holds many facets the earth is only one. Just think of him as resting from the sorrows and the tears in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days or years. Think how he must be wishing that we could know today how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched. For nothing loved is ever lost and he was loved so much. Hugs Lee
  7. I agree Erny, I wasn't meaning this product as such but was thinking more along the lines that any product/ enviromental factor could potentially cause the same sort of issues and if it was not a common thing vets may not link the two. Maybe even if the symptoms are similar then treatment might be as well. Especially when sometimes the same companies might be involved with products that are used in Australia. Another thing I was thinking about, I've seen while grooming, is dogs with skin problems that didn't have the complaint until they moved to a new property. Many dogs have a reaction to any type of wondering or ground covering plants even when it isn't in their yard and they only had very quick contact with the plant on a walk or toilet break. In these cases though the skin problem normally started on the feet & belly where as when I've seen a reaction to say frontline it started at the site the product was applied. Skin problems can be so hard to treat because there can be so many causes, dogs with cushings can have skin issues. If the problem started after moving I would check yard as it could be something as simple as a plant, try the Calendula tea and make sure the diet is easy to process. I would try the sardines & vegies as mentioned, dogs usually love sardines and they are good for skin and coat and since it has been an ongoing problem talking to your vet about checking the thyroid as suggested wouldn't hurt and would at least rule it out. Good luck, I hope to hear some good news about your pug soon Cheers Lee
  8. This happened to my mums dog. She tried it as she thought it had no wheat, it does contain wheat. One of my boys also threw it up as soon as it hit his stomach. Mum had terrible problems getting him settled back to normal after this. Both dogs are fine now. She feeds Artimus grain free and my boy is on Pro Plan sensitive skin and stomach (Salmon and rice). All my other dogs are on Nutro as it's a bit cheaper and they are all doing well on it. We also gave them a few doses of Protexin Liquid. After the Protexin and dry food change no problems since. I find Protexin is wonderful to have on hand in the fridge. Mums dog had never had any problems with food or illness until she tried the Coprice so it took a little while for her to link it to the food, at first we thought a belly bug etc. But we have no doubt now that the Coprice caused the issue Cheers Lee
  9. After I feed my dogs the Black charcoal Bonio's they have green poo's, blends in with the grass so really hard doing poo patrol. If he has eaten something Black or Dark Blue that can come out the other end shades of green as well. Besides the green was the poo normal for him, as in not overly soft, runny, had no mucus or more smelly than usual. Cheers Lee
  10. Kennel cough mutates.. immunity to one strain doesn't guarantee immunity to others Kennel cough is transmitted directly from one dog to the other by air. I've never heard of it having a residual chance of transmission but a person who's touched a dog with the illness might pose a risk. Parvovirus is a whole different ballgame. It can be transmitted on shoes, clothes etc. There is no way I'd have a partially vaccinated dog in a workplace unless people disinfected their hands before touching her. Also just because a dog is vaccinated doesn't mean it isn't a carrier of Parvo. Dogs with high immunity (the virus is destroyed) Dogs with Mid immunity (dog is a carrier, virus makes ot to the gut and is passed on) Dogs with Low immunity or no immunity (dog get sick, obvious signs of virus) I'm very careful with any of my pups before their Vaccinations are finished and having Rottweilers we give 3 vaccinations and don't consider them covered until 10 days after the 3rd. I do take them out but not until 10 to 14 days after their 2nd vaccination and I haven't had any problems with behaviour or socialiastion issues because I waited until then. Having said that though I do have other dogs at home so they are not only dogs and we have people visit them at home, we use F10 to disinfect. Cheers
  11. [The main issue now is that she has a constant head tilt. Her head seems oversized because the rest of her is so tiny, and she seems to always hold her left ear noticeably lower than her right ear, and sometimes seems to circle around to her left when she is walking. She is generally quite frail, but shows such interest in life that I am not ready to throw the towel in yet. Has anyone experienced head tilt in tiny puppies? I've read a few threads about vestibular disease but they mostly seem to involved older dogs. I am planning to take her to my vet on Monday, just wanted to tap the DOL wisdom in the meantime. Hi I haven't read all the replies as they come through weird now for some reason (having to open all individually) Anyway just thought I'd add that all the signs she is displaying can also be brought on by neospora which at her age can be passed on from mum. Mum can habour neospora (Parasite)without showing any signs and it can be passed onto the pups. It can be passed onto to some pups which maybe still born, some can be born normal and then start to show signs (weak, head looks bigger than body, can affect nervous system, swallowing etc) some pups don't show signs until older with generally the rear end effect 1st. Some pups have head tilt, tremours etc. Some pups can harbour parasite but never show signs and some pups are not affected at all. A blood test which takes 7 to 10 days to return can be taken. If diagnosed earliy enough and drug administed Clinacin (spelling) can be given and in many cases, depnding on how badly affected, the pup can go on to improve. But it is my understanding it depends on how badly the dog is hit. Neospora can appear in any age dog but normally when immunity is low, as in pups and young dogs. Dogs can pick it up from eating raw infected meat(Parasite is destoyed if meat is frozen for a couple of days) or transfered from mum, but their are cases where they are still not entirely sure how it was transfered. Most stuies have been done with cattle as they are largely affected and it causes aborted pregnancy etc, they pick it up from spores shed from canines etc. In dogs it can show many of the same symptoms as muscle dystrophy, nervous system problems etc as it can affect the brain, nervous system, sometime the heart and can cause muscle wastage which often starts with the back legs. Some greyhound vets seem to know about it or vets that treat a lot of rural dogs on diary farms. It use to be confused with Toxoplasma gondii which can be passed from mum to baby through the placenta in humans as they are very similar but it was identified as a species in 1988 Neospora caninum and I don't think they have found causes of mother baby transfer in humans yet. It has been thought that a lot of cases of fading puppy etc could be because of neospora because mum and other litter mates quite often show no signs sickness. I hope your baby is ok I just thought I'd share as their have been cases where because it is not common it is not thought of and early treatment is essential. I'm no vet but I stumbled on the info researching and was interested how it may be tied to fading puppies. Good luck with your presious baby Lee
  12. I have always used Prof Wyburn. Two other scorers I think I've heard people mentioning are Graham Allen or Dr Lavell (Sorry not sure of the spelling or contact details) but maybe someone else could advise if I've remembered correctly and where they are situated. Cheers Lee
  13. While I understand what you are saying, and you have made some relevant points, my knowledge of demodex in young pups is that the propensity to develop demodex is genetically inherited. I am not sure if it is a 'generalised' weakened immune system or something to do with immunity that is specific to these mites, but I would guess at possibly the latter. Parvo can and does do the same thing, as does KC. Some dogs will immediately succumb, others don't. What makes one pups immune system fight off these two infectious diseases, but not others? Imunity is a strange creature. I agree, I don't think imunity can be generised easily. I think I would look at how severe, I have seen many pups from different breeds etc that are affected before they are 12 months old, when a growing body has a lot of stresses etc but never have any problems after that, only a small part of their body or face was affected and treatment is quick and simple and parents may never of had any major problems. Then there are others that have continual problems, treatment is long and maybe not very successful, their skin is severly affected and they continue to have different issues through out their lives which would be more than evident before breeding age. Parents may or may not have had problems. I guess it is the same as in people you could be normally healthy but for some reason you're run down or stressed and normal levels of say yeast or what ever become too high and cause a problem. There are many things also that effect teenages when they are growing and hormonal that never worry them again when they are adults but there are some teenages that carry their health issues into adulthood. I also wonder too about some bugs etc getting stronger or immuned like when everyone has staf present but there have been healthy people go into hospital for a routine procedure and end up with s staf infection that the body and modern antibiotics have trouble fighting or when flea product etc seem to become less effective. Like many things I don't think some health issues are always black and white and the whole picture needs to be looked at instead of focusing on one part then hopefully we try to make informed/ honorst choices as to what stays in our breeding programs. Hope I'm making some sort of sense Cheers Lee
  14. Yep I have been using Advocate on all my puppies from 7 weeks old and have had no problems. Previously I had a dog get mite around 8 months old and was sick on the treatment the vet gave it so we took it off the treatment and used the Advocate every 2 weeks instead of monthly and it cleared the mite up without any problems. Even when free from the problem the hair still needs time to grow back. Quite a while ago now we rand the 1800 number to see if it could be given to an older dog, history not know, without testing 1st for heart worm and we were told yes, not sure if they still advise the same now. The only dogs I don't have on it are my bitches in whelp (There wasn't enough feed back about the product on pregnant bitches so I leave it off to be on the safe side) and my vet also advised they thought it was a good idea not to use on my bitches I had mated so I don't put the bitch back on it until the puppies are off her, I just use a different heart worm treatment etc in that time. I then put it on all pups at 7 weeks old even the ones going to new families at 8 weeks I haven't had any problems using the product this way and most of my puppy purchasers continue to use the product and I haven't had any reports of any problems from them to date. I would also want a vet to diagnosis 1st Cheers Lee
  15. Gotta love the show secs they know everyone. Yes, you never know who's watching so be good. LOL Cheers Lee
  16. I finally found the owner, she had missed 1 number off her phone number. Show sec was very helpful and got back to me very quickly. So all is good and they will be reunity wed. Cheers Lee
  17. Yes I'l try that today. I went through catalogue though and nothing so they may be entered under their kennel name instead of their sir name. Either that or somebady else had their property at the show and lost it. The plot thickens. I'l post how I go after talking to the sec Cheers Lee
  18. I would stick to the spray- 10ml to 400 ml water last ages using this way on my Rotts. You would need a lot more added to bath tank to keep the correct ratio so a lot of wastage. Cheers lee
  19. Hi All I'm looking for someone that was at Erskine Park (Penrith Kennel & Obedience show) with the name Ward. I found something that had Ward and a phone number written on it, I've tried to ring the number all day (It is a house number not mobile) but I think there is a number missing as it doesn't connect. I'm from the Utility ring and was set up right near ring 13 but they may have dropped something on the way through to a different ring. If your name is Ward and you were at Erskine Park contact me and let me know the phone numer on the item so I can confirm you're the person I'm looking for. I tried to search the catalogue but hit a dead end I haven't said what the item is because I don't want to give someone's property to the wrong person, I hope you all understand If you think you know the person please give them my contact details Cheers Lee 0407 181 172 9670-6761
  20. I have to agree and I'm not talking about old clippers, which I was very happy with, I'm talking about new clippers which I don't have time to muck around with. Like anything your equipment and how it performs makes the world of difference. So if the Wahls are no longer performing why wouldn't I be looking for a better option Like I said before I don't seem to be the only one that has had problems with their new wahls and I am running a business so loyalty to a product is based on performance. Lee
  21. I think you have a problem comprehending. Check what I stated! I did not state that no professional groomer used Osters. I stated that I cannot recall a professional groomer using Oster. Check with the people in industry such as Ian Parsons from Feather Edge and ask him how many groomers use Oster. Also the Australian Dog Centre grooming school run by Mel and Nicky both Master groomers, they recomend and use Wahl KM. Natalie West from Doggy Doos grooming school uses and recommends Wahl KMs.I could fill the page with top groomers that use Wahl and would not touch an Oster. Because one or two on this forum use them it is misleading for people reading this thread that Osters are used by main stream groomers. I have my own grooming business and have always used Wahl but I am not happy with the last pair I purchased and I'm considering a change, especially as it seems after talking to other groomers that I am not the only one not happy with the product now. Also the groomer and Vet I work with once a week are also unhappy with their recent purchase of wahl and have had nothing but trouble with them with several pairs having to be returned, one clipper was returned, fixed and sent back, half a dog was clipped before it broke down again. They are so fed up that they both have purchased Oster now. At least the Oster's have been reliable for them so far and we have been very busy. There are many I know that said they wouldn't use Oster, I was one of them after trying Oster many years ago, but I'm guessing if the wahl's are becoming problematic then some of them may rethink Like I am. I'm not sure as I haven't tried yet but I was told the new Osters seem better than the Oster's of years past, I think they are still heavier though It's frustrating when you really like a product and then it seems to change and not for the better IMO Cheers Lee
