  1. Except when its very hot (we've had a few days like that here in Adelaide last week) they get about a 1hr walk every night. I have thought that perhaps they need more, or at least more stimuation when we are not around. As for the leader, well I believe that I am based on what I have read and what I think I am doing right, always going through doors first, eating first etc. etc. but I don't know what these leadership exercices "traingle and NILF" are? I must say that I think that sometimes the female does try and "boss" people but she doesn't really do that with me.
  2. Hi all, Hope someone can provide some input on this one. I understand all puppies have the need to chew so I am not so much concerned about the destruction, just more so wondering if there are greater issues at play. We got a new boy dog (entire) about 4-5 weeks ago and he is 9-10 months old, we have an existing female (splayed at about 3 months) and she is now around 14 months old. Some of the problems that I have observed with the new boy are: Excessive chewing, but it only seems to be when we are not around. Timid behaviour with me (in particular) but everyone in general to some degree, although he is more comfortable with female humans than males. The two dogs seem to get on alright since we have seem them both on the couch of a night laying togther and there doesn't seem to be an issue - they just get along. However playtime is a different thing. The best way I can describe it is the girl seems to just fairly agressively go after him, they don't seem to hurt each other but there is a bit of growling from the girl and he stops playing immediately. We have given him his own toys but as soon as she is around she takes control and wont let him play. It seems like a dominance thing but other times they seem fine together. A couple of things that we have also noticed is that if I show him any attention the female tries to chase him away. I realise that there is almost certainly a social order problem here but we (my wife and I) are not sure of the best way to deal with it. I hope that is enough info to see if anyone can help? Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice. Stuart PS. They are both Whippets if that is of any consequence.
