I've seen the video too. I didn't realise there were quite so many 'taps' until I viewed it! IMO the continuous use of punishment in training becomes a slippery slope - when do you stop saying "no" that's not right to the dog and start teaching "yes" that's right? CM consistently works with dogs that are over threshold but why let them get over threshold in the first place when you are training? If you are anxious, stressed and frightened what do you learn when someone 'taps' you?

Oh dearie me! That's a classic!!

It's interesting that the replies are covering mostly a dominant dog to other dogs. Is this dog dominant to humans as well as JoeK describes a dominant dog? With regard to dogs being dominant to other dogs - while walking on a leash free beach with my dog one day I observed a man walking his two bull breed dogs on leash on the beach. A bitch and a dog, both quietly walking minding their own business. The was a large adolescent oodle running up and down the beach annoying most other dogs with it's in your face antics while his owner enjoyed her own carefree walk up the beach. The bull breeds were having a wade in the water when the oodle decided to pay them a visit. The male just lifted a paw and whack dropped the oodle with a paw on the shoulder and then held him under the water for a moment. It wasn't very long at all. The male's owner did not panic or interrupt, there was no tension or aggression overtly displayed by the dog. He let the oodle up, rather wet but subdued who scampered off back to mum who was down the other end of the beach. The other dogs just resumed their walk and left thereafter. I must admit I was a bit "oh wow'!

Richard Curtis and his dog Pogo, Canine Freestyle 2011 I really like this act, to me it flows really well and his cues are all built into the act making it pretty seamless. Plus they look like they're having fun which is the most important part!

Pulling When He Sees Other Dogs
Jigsaw replied to TYLER23's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I fail to see the similarities. If Fuzzy82 was anything like you there post would have been 10 times longer, they would of made an association between training dogs and training wild hares and they would of thrown in random links to Panksepp. I'm sorry Corvus!! -
He's a very clever lad!

Sid is just absolutely gorgeous!! I love Lola's zoom face

Pulling When He Sees Other Dogs
Jigsaw replied to TYLER23's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Find a good trainer. Learn how to be the most interesting thing around to your dog. If your dog is not taking food and unable to respond to you he is way over threshold. Increase your distance from the other dogs. You need to react to the situation before your dog has an oportunity to pull away from you. Here are some links that may help you in the meantime. Worked for me and I agree good article.

Agree great post Cosmolo! I think you make sense Kelpie-i! -
I saw their first run and I thought Chloe handled herself really well despite the zoomies and Peppi jumped really well!! Saw a few zoomies happening in that ring so she wasn't alone!

Destructive Dog When Home Alone....please Help!
Jigsaw replied to Babesmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I really think you need someone who can come into your home and see you and your dog. It could be opportunistic behaviour it could be boredom it could be separation related behavior to give you examples of possible behaviours that can cover what you described. It's difficult to tell on the internet exactly what is happening. Sorry i know thats not a lot of help to you at this moment. What happens if you leave her outside? Has someone always been at home with her prior to you going to work? -
Like it!!

It's 51 pages!! You're distracting me from my work! -
I haven't been to agility training for a long while so I'm not sure who's there on Sat mornings! FionaC may know more. I do know of someone who was doing agility intro privately if you're interested. I think Cessnock also has agility training for beginners on a Wed night.

I'd recommend kennel run with roof and concrete floor. Then you can relax a little more when you're not out with her, although regular inspection of the run may be necessary if she has a lot of drive to get out she may work the wire to get through. If you want her out in the yard with you, tether her to you, don't give her the opportunity to get over the fence. I'd be looking at trying some drive training with her to funnel some of that energy she has. I'd also be looking to find someone who can work with you on an individual basis who might be able to give you more specific advice on training.

I'm not sure how far away from you this is but there is a seminar being held in Albury with Sue Hogben (a positive trainer) titled "A Weekend of Obedience from CCD to UDX". on the 21st and 22nd May this year. I believe there are still positions available for observers on both days. If you can get there even for one day it may help you out. If you're interested I can send you more details. Edit: I don't know Sue and I've not seen her train but I know of people who hold her in high regard.

My girl farts on occasion. She either takes no notice or looks at her rear end as if "what was that"!! All dogs are individuals and what may suit your other dogs your new girl may find not quite right and is experiencing some digestion problems. It may just be adjustment to change or the the actual food. Keep and eye on her poos and the frequency and note any changes. I have heard of charcoal being used but I couldn't tell you how much. I do note that my girl does have more maloderous farts after eating kangaroo. It seems to be more potent than other meats for her!

I think they ran the beginner classes in the lower ring at that last agility trial (German Shepherd Ring). if there is a dog show on the same weekend that ring is often used now for showing. There's also usually a lot of campers/vans around that ring so it can be a bit distracting for a lot of dogs. Look forward to seeing you around the club Beauie. I've got a mad Koolie who thinks everyone is her new best friend!
