Toilet Problems - 1 Year Old Cocker Spaniel
Jigsaw replied to Little Bear's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
What time is his last meal? If there are no physical issues that come up in your vet check I would look at changing the time of day he is fed ie maybe last meal no later than 4pm or switch to main meal in the morning and a small meal in the afternoon/evening. I would be trying a late evening toilet run, very early morning and early morning. He may have a sensitive bowel that when it is full he needs to go and can't hold it in. If a pup or dog is stressed it can also cause more bowel movements. I'd also be looking at how well formed his stools are - soft, hard, mucousy, dry etc as well as the frequency. -

Steve White Training Weekends
Jigsaw replied to Lablover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I went to the other weekend, it was awesome. At least I thought so. He was a brilliant, funny and approachable speaker. Would love to have done the tracking seminar but timing wasn't right. I would certainly recommend him as a speaker. -

Cu For Anxious Dogs And Also Impulse Control
Jigsaw replied to Loreley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yay!!! That's really great! CU has some really good stuff! -
Some dogs are depressed for a while after surgery. Maybe you could sit with her looking out the window for a short time each day as well as your walk. Nosework - teaching her to identify some scents and find them could be a good activity for her. She can sit and do this while you hold scent in one hand and nothing in the other. As she gets more active you can hide the scent around the house and then eventually outside.

It's still a very new relationship for both you and the dog. You need to get to know the dog, and he needs to get to know you! :) Some time just chilling together, at home and walking in areas with lots of interesting smells and stuff. Some play time together is good too. :)

Denise Fenzi - Seminar Announcement
Jigsaw replied to Jigsaw's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'm really chuffed and excited to read the positive reviews of Denise and I know she'll be excited to hear them too!! :) I've had a lot of positive feedback about the seminar!! Yay!! Thank you all for coming along and helping to make it a success. Denise is funny, personable and approachable and very quick to assess handlers and dogs and go directly to their individual problems or needs. The people who had two dogs at the seminar had approached me previously and discussed why they would have had two dogs at the seminar and understood that only one dog was to be worked for each exercise. I have to say it but if you missed the seminar or can't get to the next couple check out the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy, some really really great courses here. There is a really great course for those that have fearful or reactive dogs that shut down at trials - working with a behaviourist! PS Now I have some more faces to put to DOL names!!!
