  1. plastic buckets or plant pots, news paper, old socks
  2. i also agree that rehoming isn't an option it is just passing on the problem
  3. i would get in contact with a good trainer/behaviouralist. then you will get ideas on how to manage this, support for making the changes and someone who can examine the behaviour and make sense of it. good luck
  4. so true. now i choose not to go to dog training because of the C5 requirement. this is where we come unstuck. i wonder if they would accept titre testing and if this can be done in Aus?
  5. what if you get the dog to sit first then lure it to a drop using a treat? then once it knows this you can leave out the sit.
  6. well really that would suit me perfectly Then perhaps it might also suit you to offer to pay the medical bills that this family will be paying out for the rounds of plastic surgery for their beautful little girl, to repair hideous scarring to her face as she grows? Souff i feel very badly for the little girl so don't try to emotionally blackmail me it doesn't work. i however do not like little children in the hairdressers when i go there. they cry and are noisy and want to run around and if they cant they get grizzly and annoying. so how about i go to another salon...now that is my choice, just like it was the parents choice to leave after they saw the dog.
  7. Just when are you (and others) going to GET IT? A hairdressing salon is open for business to cut the hair of adult and junior humans - i.e., CHILDREN! Having children there to have their hair cut is how they make their money to open the doors and stay in business! THAT IS THEIR CORE BUSINESS AND CHILDREN HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE THERE IN SAFETY. A hairdressing salon is not the local DOGGY DAY CARE CENTRE - nor is it the DOGGY LUNCH ROOM! ;) (steam is now coming off this keyboard!) Souff edited for grammar i get it. i also get my hair cut at a hairdresser that has a dog in it. we have a difference of opinion and if you had read my post i said that i COULD say "blah blah" but that we would just go round in circles as you have done.
  8. That reminds me even though my dog jumps up on the bed at all other times during the day, when it comes to night time and he wants to go to bed, he waits for me to lift him up. God how stupid am I. i think you have my dog, she does this and the ear flapping
  9. The first time I had my 2 Poodles groomed. I asked if they had experience grooming poodles and they told me they had. They said " you want a poodle cut on them? feet, face ect" I said yes. My guys came back in with their ears shaved and feet shaved half way up their legs, and wet - they hadnt even been dryed off. I ended up finding a much better groomer and am now doing it myself (and they still look better than that first grooming) yep that was the forst and last time i will ever use a groomer. i do everything myself now.
  10. i had a cairn terrier, took in 6 photos of the trim went in once before i took the dog in to make sure they knew what i wanted and were comfortable doing it. on the day took the dog and the photos in....you should have seen the dog when i picked it up...it was awful...and yes i had to pay...no payment ....no dog :D i think i communicated as well as anyine could and i still had a problem
  11. this happened to me as well and when i complained the groomer couldn't care less. i would be interested on how to make sure that the groomers we want to use are qualified or at least good groomers. also what can you do if something like this happens. it seems bad groomers can get away with anything
  12. Because the dog was in the salon? i do not believe it is that simple unfortuanately. i could say the child shouldn't have been in the shop and then we go round and round again getting nowhere. i am really interested because I wonder how things can happen. i will assume that all the circumstances that were to play that day had happened before so what i look for is what was different...why on this day did this dog react to this child...this is complex and that is why i do not blame anyone or anything, i simply do not know why this would have happened. what i do know is that an innocent child and an innocent dog will pay the price for this situation and that is sad.
  13. well even more unfortuanate. that poor little girl had both her parents watching her and she still got into danger. how on earth did this happen?
  14. my hairdresser has a little toy poodle in the salon all the time. she is a bit of a feature and i love going in there. i can take my dog there for a visit if i want as well. all the customers know the dog is there and i assume people "self select" if they don't like dogs they go else where. however, i have never seen this dog getting fed in the shop, she gets fed in another room. i think the issue is that dogs, food and kids don't mix. we have so few places we are allowed to take our dogs and i would like to take them more places, a more european experience. having dogs in non-food shops should be ok. we should be supporting businesses that allow this.
  15. That's interesting, I thought they had a lot less than that. We have the same problem with Boston Terriers. My OH got our little girl over 14 years ago and she was $650 the last breeder I spoke to wanted over $2000. I think it's just because they became more popular. Definatley on the "when I have a savings account with savings in it" day. we must have posted at the same time...i agree and i have a Boston...there is a 2 -3 year waiting list at most breeders.
  16. and Boston Terriers can pay up to $2000 for them
  17. you can wait up to 2-3 years and the cost can be up to $2500. there are not a lot of breeders and the litters are small. research breeders, find the one you like and put your name on their waiting list. you can also ask them when they are planning their next litter and they may be able to tell you. however, they may have a full waiting list for that litter. keep in contact with the breeder while you are waiting so they know you are serious and still want a puppy.
  18. they are very people focused. my dog is on her own, ie no other dogs, and she likes this. she doesn't really care about other dogs. they are tough nuggety little dogs who think they are bigger than they are. the only area you might need to watch is their eyes because they protrude and you need to be a bit careful with them. they are a brachy breed and therefore need to be kept cool in summer. my dog doesn't care for the cold either. any pack will work if you show good leadership which Boston's love.
  19. For what purpose eg ratting? Thanks in advance. no not ratting, there is a rumour they were originally used in dog fighting pits
  20. Salmon heads are fine! I feed whole leather jackets, red spot whiting, Bonito, Sardines, Mackerel, generally just whatever whole fish I can get at a good price. yep anything that is cheap. i have tried pilchards, sardines all raw and fresh and others i cant remember.
  21. my dog regularly catches and eats them....and she is a Boston, not known for their speed although when she sees a bird her prey drive is huge and she is much faster
  22. i give whole fish twice a week head guts and all. the only time i do anything to the fish is when they have barbs on the fins and i cut them off as they could her eyes (bostons don't have much eye protection. she loves the fish.
  23. sorry pete.the.dog, i had forgotten you said that, my apologies. there are some good dog obedience clubs around if you can find your way to them that are good and not too expensive (mine was $40 per year) i do think you will be able to improve the situation on your own, i just find that sometimes if possible an outsiders view can bring a solution along quicker. good luck with it all
