Have you done the K9 Force program, Yesmaam? I don't need to pay anyone to learn about this stuff. "We" have been training this way for years. What Steve does is good for some but if you want first hand experience from people who are actually out there trialling dogs using these methods then go to your local IPO club. The focus in an IPO club is competition not programs that cost you money depending on what you sign up for....... wow, what an amazing position for you to take based on zero knowledge of the course. i have never done any of K9's courses but boy does your arrogance speak volumes about your club and training method!!!

because the right type aren't out there, i dont want a cross breed because i have no idea about its background so i will always want a pure bred dog (i am not so fussed about pedigreed IF their background is sound)
-
but we need a better way for the public to acquire puppies. we also need to be ok with the public wanting cross breeds. there has to be a way for us all to get what we want and the welfare of the dogs are looked after as well. i buy pure bred, pedigreed dogs, usually expensive ones ;) . that is ok for me because i like to know what i am buying especially when it comes to predicting the dogs temperament and size. some people don't mind the surprise package that cross breeds are, i do. what bothers me is any type of snobbery around what dogs we own. if a dog is well looked after, trained, exercised, socialized and happy then what this shows is a good dog owner, regardless of the breed of the dog. if we expect the public to only buy pedigreed dogs then we must make sure the supply meets the demand. for instance, i like Boston Terriers and French Bulldogs and they are difficult to come by and expensive. so if the public could only buy pedigreed dogs then i would expect the demand for the companion type dogs to increase making the procurement of those dogs even more difficult. how would we overcome those issues? because it then goes into the realm of how many litters a year breeders should have before being named a puppy farmer. it would totally change the way dog breeders operate at the moment. i am not saying this would be bad but if the public only had access to pedigreed dogs if they wanted a pet it would have wide reaching implications for breeders and would need much honest and forthright discussion. just my opinion.

Any Way Of Keeping Neighbour's Cat Out Of My Yard?
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
whilst i appreciate all the ideas to get rid of the cats i resent the fact that cat owners take no responsibility for their pets. if my dog roamed at night, dug up neighbours plants and pooped on their lawn i think they would be very upset. it is not fair that i as a dog owner need to take more responsibility than a catowner. and i don't like cats because i am allergic to them so the cat fur that is around the place is a real bother for me. -
Any Way Of Keeping Neighbour's Cat Out Of My Yard?
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to chichihuahua's topic in General Dog Discussion
hiring traps and driving to and from pounds is going out of your way and not so easy if the cat outsmarts it. Set properly and baited with a can of sardines, you will catch the majority of cats within two days. I managed to get all of the one's that were coming onto our property in the space of a couple of days and none of them have been seen since. agreed. i have just gone through this process and have caught (with the council supplied cat trap) the three cats that have been causing havoc and have deposited the stratys at the pound. the cats have no collars and were in my yard at night. in my opinion if the owners of those cats (that is if they have owners) cared about the cats they would not be roaming at night. why did i do this? because i got sick of picking up dead birds and lizards from my yard. -
Just Came Home From The Dog Kennel Disappointed
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to Pete.the.dog's topic in General Dog Discussion
the thread started getting out of hand when posters seemed who seemed to have worked at the kennel got involved and made some very unprofessional comments. the OP was asking about their expectations and there was some discussion around that. i am indeed concerned about the posters who seemed unprofessional but not concerned about the original post -
but would they have sold them to someone who appeared to not know how to manage them?
-
dont. they will form a pack of two and you will be forever trying to lead the pack and failing unless you are a very experienced dog owner who has had a multiple dog household before. i agree that if the breeder is ok with you having two i would be looking for another breeder

i have left the main door solid and put the dog door in the fly screen also one of my doors is a glass sliding door so cant put the dog door in that. that way i have heat in winter and a cool breeze without flys in summer. i am sorry but i dont have the brand name of the dog door but if you as a screen door place they can install it for you or go to a pet store and they will have one for securoty doors

i bet the council workers know of her and will know where she lives. her behaviour is not within the "normal" bounds so i suspect there is more going on than just a fear of dogs

Good idea, I think I will The thing was that they didn't offer a morning pick up on sunday - if they did I would have been there then, they only let you pick up between 2 and 5 well i think they can't charge you for that then. what does their sunday policy say? -
Raw Food /non Kibble Feeders
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to all that glitters's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i use dr b's raw, raw pilchers, chicken necks, turkey necks, sardines, brisket bones. i mix omega 3, apple cider vinegar and natural yogurt into each meal. her allergies and better managed now. ets i give her a raw egg a week too -
i have also heard that some dogs don't like the taste of pineapple as well so two reasons to try adding this to his food.
-
i use tea tree oil as it is anti fungal and the dog doesnt lick it off.
-
i think you should call the breeder and inform them of the issues
-
i have a boston and the dorito smell in the feet is a sure sign of fungus infection.
-
and sometimes yelping can make it worse because it arouses the dog even more. getting a behaviouralist in to observe the dog will give you suggestions tailored to the puppy.

Dog Allergic To Wandering Jew Weed
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to GSDowner's topic in General Dog Discussion
be careful using glyphosate if it gets on any plant it will die. if i am using near plants i dont want to die i use a paintbrush and dip it in the glyphosate and brush onto the offending plant. this makes sure the nonoffending plant lives as no glyphosate gets on it. -
Toddler Attacked By Dog In Hair Salon
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to The Spotted Devil's topic in In The News
i totally agree. whilst i do not want children running round in hairdressing salons and whilst my hairdresser has her dog in the salon i do not think it responsible to cover your eyes to the fact that the dog MIGHT have been in the wrong. please feel some empathy towards the small child who for whatever reason got a very big fright that day in the salon. if it were my dog i would want to be very sure that it did not bite the child without warning and even if it did warn for sure it would never be in the salon again and it would not be near children unsupervised. there are always two side to any story and in this story there is a dog and a child, neither who can speak for themselves so they both should have us listening very carefully so we can look out for both of them. -
to do a true comparison you should also work out the cost of 100 grams of food for each dog food brand for when the dog gets older and the feeding amounts change
