  1. he looks a bit heavy in the front with rolls of fat/skin around his legs. loosing a bit more wouldnt hurt. i think dogs are a bit better leaner than fatter, especially brachy breeds (i have one too). it seems to me the more weight they have the harder it is for them to adapt to the heat...less weight may also help their breathing and may reduce snoring and will help their joints. one other way to test his weight (although i go by the ability to feel ribs) is to look at the breed standard to see whether he is within the weight range of the standard
  2. i think that burning them is more humane cause it is quicker.
  3. if i am still able to order could i have: - 2 small - 1 medium - 1 large i am in adelaide
  4. yep i used the cigs when i found leeches on me when i smoked but was a bit worried about burning the dog hair...however great suggestion about heating up the ciggie lighter, that will do it
  5. if you smoke you touch the cigarette tip on the leech and it drops off...not sure this would be good though just know it works
  6. these dogs are so different it may not be possible for people to answer such a broad question so you might need to help by giving some more information like what is your lifestyle? are you active? what do you want to do with the dog? what do you like in a dog personality wise?
  7. hmmm, can you explain why you have a requirement of two adult owners? Sorry, I should have explained that in the first place. We need dogs with two owners because one will be in the room with me and the dog, and the next will be in an adjoining room in front of a window holding a toy (this will be visible to the dog through the mirror, which faces the window). The purpose of having an owner with a toy on the other side of the window is to try to motivate the dog to look into the mirror. We had tried just having one owner in our pilots, with me being alone in the room with the dog. However, this raised problems because many dogs were not able to relax without their owner in the room with them, and the ones who did relax tended not to be obedient when I asked them to sit facing the mirror -- after all, why should they obey a random stranger?! Therefore, we need one owner to remain on the other side of the window with the toy, and the other owner will be in the room with me and the dog. I hope that clarifies things somewhat. thank you that clarifies it well.

  9. x2. get the dog you want. choose a good registered breeder and go for it.
  10. now that makes more sense than the lack of quals because that would have surely come out at an interview/perusing his resume/referee checks
  11. as a consumer i want: - a trainer that has tenacity in case the problem is a difficult one....i need them not to give up on me or my dog - enough tools in their toolbox to help me no matter what the situation - an open mind that allows them to try their tried and true methods but if they dont work then they can use other methods. - the humility to say they cant help but to refer me onto someone who can in actual fact i expect them to work the same way i do.
  12. That would be nice... but competition is tougher. that just makes the victory so much sweeter congratulations on your achievements
  13. I agree with you there, Angelsun. I see that quite frequently. I think the difference between the foundation courses (NDTF and Delta) is that NDTF "embraces" (read : takes into account; recognises benefits and non-benefits) whereas Delta "rejects" (read : would prefer not to discuss; prohibits). Isn't Delta's Cert IV an accredited "Companion Animal" Course rather than an accredited "Dog Training" Course? yep Erny and Angelsun that is what i believe too.
  14. yes i have used this with the dog and she loves it. I have also it to biulk up her food when she needs to loose a bit of weight.
  15. spot on, their selection process is what should be examined. if they knew what they were hiring then they take on the responsibility of the persons skills experience and qualifications
  16. but your constant denial of bad things happening with Delta training/trainers makes it frustrating for us who have had bad experiences and also makes me think that there is no point even trying to discuss the issues. there are awful detal trainers just like there are awful other trainers.....my experience was the awful delta and the good others this is fact, not a porky
  17. i think the tea/coffee idea is great and people could give an amount for a bottomless cup or pay by the cup. i like the combo idea because some people may have special dietry requirements
  18. the bold part is exactly what we need to remember. i am sure that a class can be tailored to teach people the different methods of training dogs and ask them to try which one works with their dogs....it is the people we want to teach and the first thing needed when learning is an open mind and that sometimes we need to try different things to get our dogs to learn.
  19. Schutzhund training I think is the only dogsport represented passionately by men and women more equally. I guess Schutzhund is open to more blokey breeds too what a fantastic photo
