Pups Interacting Through Fence
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to Kody's_Mum's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
what i did was to put up a temporary fence away from the boundary fence so my dog couldnt run along the fence. then i only let her out when i was at home and i told her off every time she barked at the other dogs noise. in less than 3 months the temp fence is down and she ignores any dogs who are barking. -
I've got one of those too Enya and I often end up nose to nose growling at each other while playing with toys! yep same here nose to nose over the tug

K9: Ahh great to hear from you, the distance doesnt need to be a barrier, just have her email me on [email protected] as soon as possible and we can keep going. K9: Yes I did notice about ten minutes before when Frank walked by he showed avoidance but not when anotehr girl did, I sensed he had an issue with men, so I let out my femine side lol... We were good mates in no time. Look forward to hearing from her... lol you were teriffic!! will tell her to email you. -
my dog never growls unless we are playing tug and i growl first!!! then she growls and i growl and she thinks its great fun. she is submissive and knows i am the leader and she has never growled anytime except for this one situation. growling like this is fun not scary.

Hi Steve it was a fantastic workshop and thanks to Ness and KHM for their efforts to have the day be very smooth and relaxed. I have the Boston and my daughter has the black lab. we were talking on Sunday about wanting more work done with him and i explained to my daughter and her partner that you were in NSW. Steve, what makes it more remarkable is that the black lab does not like men and he took to your energy and approach very well, surprising us all. I am sure we will find a way for you to keep working with him and for us to help him become a more secure dog. cheers jay -
i teach my dogs that i can put my fingers in their mouths, in their ears, touch their paws, in fact touch them anywhere and that this is good for them. this means i have never had any problems giving pills, getting stuff out their mouth, putting drops in ears or trimming nails. i also give them an open command and they open their mouths. this has paid of for me on lots of occassions and i think is very important so i can medicate/look after my dog anytime it is necessary.

To Break Up The Boredom Or Let Her Get Used To Things?
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to FranVT's topic in General Dog Discussion
when i was teaching my puppy to be on her own when i went to work i put her in her bed and gave her a dog biscuit just before i left. she only gets this biscuit when i am going out. this lets her know she will be on her own and she settles really quickly. it worked well for her. -
Wouldn't it still be better to have registered pedigree breeders, who test their dogs producing an extra litter a year, than have people buying a random mutt yes it would. i just cant see how breeders could keep up with the demand and my concern would be that dog ownership would get less and less each year. i do not support BYB's nor pet shops selling animals but i think that we need to take a more strategic view and look realistically at all the issues.
-
if all cross bred dogs were not available then a lot of people would be waiting an eternity to have a pet dog....it would put so much more pressure on breeders to produce more litters to keep up with the demand and the implications of that are far reaching

i dont agree. once the legislators get their hands on anything we have little chance of it making sense or staying true to the original intent.

Just noting, this wasn't at a park, this was on a street. Just walking down the street, all dogs on lead. I will ask my aunty what street and suburb and post it tomorrow. Maybe even a description and name of the dog. Not going on at all, shows how much you care about dogs ! I'm not sure about getting the story published in the paper, my Aunty is going off what the animal control officers are telling her to do for now. I would be worried if the story was given to the paper that it could possibly change from being a "Bad Owner" story, to a "all pit bulls are evil" story. I'm sure my Aunty would not want this either, I will pass the idea along to her though. If written correctly it could be a very good story, a way of building awareness. (Would they be able to post images like that in the local paper?) good point.

we dont even rise up in horror and indignation knowing that some of our aged citizens are living below the poverty line. we have lost the ability to be horrified i think because of sensory overload. we have so many images and information bombarding us we have no time to stop and process the data.

this was going to be my next suggestion and i think its a good one!! there doesnt seem to be any other differences. i think you do need to sort it out now to make sure there is no seperation anxiety and that Emmy knows she isnt the boss of everyone.
-
some people really trust their vets and some even go against their better instincts and do exactly what the vet says. they do this because they love their pets and dont want them to get worse. how do we know that this isnt what happened here?
-
swap the bedding so Emmy has charlies bedding in her crate so she gets used to sleeping in her own crate That's the first thing we tried... she will go back to Charlie's crate. We even put his living room bed into her crate too... she wasn't buying it. i love a puzzle..ok so what is different between Charlie's crate and Emmy's crate? ets i agree that you need to be firmer with Emmy too

Homemade Dog Food Vs Kibble?
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to Juno's Mummy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I resent your comment that I am making my dog fat, quite frankly I'm a little offended that you assumed I "blamed" her. Of course I agree that it is no one's fault but ours for potentially feeding her incorrectly - hence why I began this post looking for some advice. That being said, it was our vet himself who advised that keeping her weight down will always be a problem due to her breed, not my own opinion. I'm simply looking for some advice! Currently we feed her a home recipe including mince, veggies and rice or pasta that was given to me by a friend who's vet recommended it. We add Dr. Bruce's all natural health booster to it and supplement with raw bones about once a fortnight for her teeth. she gets 1/3cup in the morning and 1/3 cup in the evening and wolfs it down in less than 30 secs! she is currently 10.9kg and believe she should probably be around 9, as she is actually a little bigger than a pure bred pug and back when she was 9kg our vet said that she was at a great weight. often vets dont understand that some dogs dont need to be overweight. your vet just hasnt seen a lean fit pug so you might have to educate him. if you reduce the amount of food and your dog still seems hungry then you could bulk up the food with pumpkin or green beans as they dog doesnt process them and therfore it doesnt put weight on the dog. -

Jaxx'sBuddy replied to Juno's Mummy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
you could search this forum for raw or barf diets which are raw food diets and some dogs with allergies have done very well on them. you also may need to think about feeding your dog less as pugs do not need to be fat. there was a topic on this not so long ago -
Would You Eat Food Offered To You By A Dog?

or you could attach a plastic plate across the handle under where he will grab the handle and that would catch any drool
