  1. here are the contacts for you in one place :D Jill at JRT Rescue here is her profile on DOL http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showuser=1638 you will need to send her a Private Message (PM) go to the top of the screen (just under Help) and look for messages and click and that takes you to the place where you can send her the message. did you get your dog from a breeder? if you did then maybe talk to them about having the dog back again monika's doggy rescue can be found here http://www.doggierescue.com/ sydney pet rescue can be found here http://www.sydneypetrescue.com.au/ good luck with finding a place for your boy, i know this must be very hard for you.
  2. i disagree. i pay professionals for their skills, experience and knowledge. if i followed what you have said then before i bought a house i should have studied real estate law to make sure not only i but the real estate agent and my conveyencer were all doing the right and legal thing. that just doesnt work. we have an expectation that the professionals we pay give us the correct advice. you cant use the drunk driving situation because we have been educated and there are campaigns in the media to let us know its not ok to do this Yes that's where I'm coming from too. And if it is illegal to ask if a vet will do the op how are you meant to know until you do ask? exactly!!! Still not much point in us chatting about it I suppose this poor girl looks like she may be done in by it 4 years after the event! seriously?
  3. i totally agree with this. if i was not a member of dol how would i know about debarking? would i ask the council?...maybe would I ask my vet?...definately because he would be the one doing the procedure....oh dear, i have just broken the law....now that is crazy lets think this out...if the council gives dog owners information about debarking as a leaflet, have they also broken the law...curiouser and curiouser

  6. yep mine has packages and because i have a brachy breed i choose the best package. not because i felt guilty but because there are higher risks when brachy breeds have a GA. i think my vet is very good and this is not diminished because they offer packages. i questioned them as to why they did it and they said that they always do what is required for the animals but that some people were asking for more options and they supplied them. they never push the most expensive package and only the other day i heard the vet tell another patient not to buy the large expensive item until they tried the sample to make sure their puppy liked it. they also do not charge for a consult unless they provide a service or treatment so you can go in and discuss the ailment and do nothing and not pay a thing. so sorry this is a long post but providing GA care options do not equate with a bad vet
  7. i too like logic and what you have said is right although logically and i suggest morally wrong. would it be possible to get a definative legal opinion on this or is it a situation where there needs to be a case to determine the legality? oops spelling
  8. Actually I thought they liked head collars? I know they are totally against check chains and any physical corrections. yeah they like halti's because they are not aversive....go figure
  9. i would think the vet had the onus to get the right paperwork. as in most professional fields it is up to the practitioner to know the laws around there area f expertise. it would be like me going to a doctor and telling them i want my leg amputated because i have a sore knee. i should have a reasonable expectation that the doctor would give me advice based on their medical knowledge (which i dont have) rather than them doing whatever i wanted. in addition to diagnosising our pets ailments we have an expectation when we consult a vet that they will operate within the laws of the state and under their professional body's policies and procedures and that they will ensure we meet any legal obligations before they carry out procedures that require this.
  10. yep, they are very closed minded when it comes any training methods that are not theirs and they infer their method is the only correct method
  11. how on earth can this organisation be taken seriously, oh i know, it cant
  12. i have also been told that apple cider vinegar in their food or water fixes it as well
  13. we have nothing to be proud of. look at how we manage chicken farms - non free range and we dont protest at their treatment look at how we intensively farm pigs - no protests there either look at how we farm fish and screw the rest of the marine environment when we do this. and lets also look at how we kill and slaughter those farmed animals....not the best trak record here either. the saying "those in glass houses shouldnt throw stones" comes to mind. unless we are all vegetarian we cant say boo...i am not a vegitarian today but i was for years. the best i can do today is pay more for the meat i buy to ensure the best i can that it comes from an ethical source. we cannot put our values and morals onto another countries citizens unless we are doing the right thing as well
  14. yep will keep her on the probiotics for the next week. she always gets yoghurt on her food, she really likes it. fingers crossed this goes away. this was the first time she has ever been ill
  15. well yesterday afternoon she started looking better and this morning she is as bright as a button and harrassed me for her breakfats. she seems much better as she has brought me her ball to play with her. the appointment is for later today so if she keeps this up i will cancel it. thank you all for your help
  16. have you tried canned sardines and then the oil mixes with the dry food. that usually gets them interested
  17. i use alfoil to make a container that fits the dog without bothering them. i use several layers to make it strong enough. when you get the urine just pour (you can shape a spout) into the container and throw away the alfoil.
  18. vet couldnt see her this morning, have appt for tomorrow.
  19. my vet is really good and we had a 45 minute consult so she was checked thoroughy. i just think because there is nothing "wrong" it is hard to diagnose. i might take a stool sample with me tomorrow just in case. i thought about giving her chicken and rice but decided not to just in case it upset her. i will be back to the vet as often as i need too until she is better
  20. he did check her temp which was fine and her gums which were also fine. he checked her easrs as well, also fine. thats what is so odd, all looks ok but i know there is something wrong. for sure first thing tomorrow she will be back at the vet.
  21. Half of these vets are not worth two bob..........try this and see how she goes damn well annoys me They need to give you options............we can do an xray, we can do a stool culture etc etc. Half the time you have to research the symptoms yourself and tell the vet what you want done which shouldn't happen. I would take her back Jaxx'sBuddy and tell the vet to do their job properly. The level of attention you have been given IMO is sub-standard. yep she will be going back to the vet on Monday.
  22. I have answered each question below. i know its not much info but if she was a human i would think she had a tummy bug, which is what the vet said. i will take her back on Monday as she is lethargic and not her usual self. thank you for your questions
  23. my dog Jaxx is a 2 year old Boston Terrier who has an upset tummy. she has had this for almost a week. i took her to the vet on wednesday as i thought maybe she had eaten something and had a blockage but the vet felt her tummy and said it felt fine. he said i could give her probiotics if she didnt get better. so this weekend i started her on yakult and yogurt as the vet was shut and i will get dog probiotics on monday. i have reduced her food to make sure she doesnt over load her tummy but she looks so miserable i dont know what else to do. i have her in bed at the moment with the electric blanket on because she seems to feel better when warm. any suggestions on what i can do to make her feel better? ETS she burps and has a little throw up with only a teaspoon of liquid is thrown up
  24. hmm, its a bit hard to put a head collar on a brachy breed so i think it also depends on the head structure of the dog as well
  25. then you are teaching him oy means hang onto the clothing or bite and if you keep moving it is a great game for the pup. you need to treat before the pup bites and stop walking as soon as teeth touch clothing. if you watch you will know when it will happen. this will not stop on its own. maybe get a behaviourist in to help you stop this happening
