  1. had the opposite problem, my Bostons ears wanted to go down but after she was finished teething they went up and stayed up. i know you can sometimes tape the ears to make them do what you want so maybe google that if you are concerned about the ears.
  2. Will be boarded due to surgery, He's timid to both people and animals and strangers really. I'm worried that if I don't tackle the situation as soon as possible it can lead to aggression and that is something I really don't want. I've learned so much about dogs now that we have one and still many things too learn. yoshi you are thinking about all the right things. have another look at Erny's post and maybe think about taking your pup to the kennel for a day just to see how they go and about getting a behaviourist in to asses your puppy.
  3. maybe get a dog walker to walk the dog and do more problem solving training with your dog. sits, stays, drops, waits, confidence building, ie running through tunnels and through hoops, a few tricks and that will tire your puppy out just as much as a walk. i wouldn't board my puppy for training because i would be worried their personality might change, especially if they are a bit nervous to start with. ETS i have no issues boarding my dog at a reputable kennel if i need to go where the dog cant. i just wouldnt have them train her.
  4. you would want to ask lots of questions on how they boarded the dog, ie conditions and what training methods they used. you might also like to write down a list of things you want trained and ask them specific questions about how they would teach this to the dog. you would have to carry on with the training method when you got home so you will need to be comfortable with what they do.
  5. PETA USED to be good but now they have gone so far left they have disappeared up their own ..you know what. their agenda now is to stop all people from owning pets because that is abusing the pets. they also disagree with purebred dogs and purebred dog breeders. they are no longer allies for pet owners...in fact maybe they never were.
  6. i have a friend who has just started showing and has told me they have had tremendous support from other breeders both within the breed and other breeds. one breeder has shown them how to groom properly, another taken them out of the cold into their tent... literally it was raining. so i am thinking that it takes all kinds to make up any community and you will get good and bad in all of them. just means if you want to get involved you need to watch who you get involved with.
  7. i think so found this on the site Angels' Eyes® also helps to eliminate staining around the mouth and on the coat due to licking.
  8. me too i have bought both crates for the 2 dogs i have had transported to me from breeders i did not want a crate that had another dog in it. i also used the crate for crate training until they grew too big for it.
  9. :p Are you referring to the OP? Where on earth has it been said the kids are left to deal with the dog on their own?? the OP said it. i am concerned that you are taking this personally i am also concerned about a possibler injury to a child. you have more information than all of us and are not disclosing it but being quite dismissive of any suggestions or questions. ok i get the hint, i am leaving this conversation but huski i think you are being very one eyed about this situation. i really hope the kids dont get injured.
  10. I would suggest that when it comes to kids and dogs that an adult is ALWAYS there and close at hand! Part of the responsibility of having dogs and kids IMO. totally agree and i am still concerned that children are left to deal with an aggressive dog even if it was accidentally. they do not have the capability nor the experience to do this. what if next week we see a post that says my dog attacked my child and they are now in hospital with facial injuries. if it was me i would not be taking those chances
  11. The OP is already seeing a very reputable behaviourist. Lucy'sMama, have you talked to the trainer recently about his behaviour towards the kids and how it is still occuring/not improving? I am 110% confident, as I am sure you are too, that she will be able to help you with this problem. One of the most important things is to make sure you communicate with her regularly and clearly so she can know what is working and what isn't. you obviously know something we dont
  12. How so? She already said she will be talking to the trainer about it and that she will be seeing her for another session. The OP wasn't posted for training advice, she was asking about how desexing may or may not effect the dog's behaviour. hmpf that is a very narrow view of what the OP was talking about. i would be very concerned at any dog that was mouthing children as this behaviour can escalate.
  13. but the trainer is supposed to be helping you but from what you have told us there is no plan for how the dog will be shown that his behaviour is wrong. supposing you are following your trainers advice, it is clearly not working so the trainers methods will be questioned. you posted here for help which we are trying to give you so all things will be discussed. something must not be working for you if you posted here instead of talking to your trainer.
  14. Apologies but if this behaviour is still occurring and escalating - then she may be great, but perhaps her methods are ineffective ? x2
  15. i dont think desexing will help. i think he needs to be made to understand that children are NEVER to be mouthed, jumped on or anything!!! i think you need to go back to your trainer and ask what it will achieve by not having the children involved and how they suggest thast involvement takes place. sounds odd (and dangerous) to me to not stop bad behaviour around children
  16. yep this is what my vet said, it was client demand, and he is a great vet....
  17. gosh i have one that does that...and if i pay no attention i get a paw on my arm...no movement, just the paw sitting there touching me as well as the stare
  18. agreed. but the problem is we have all witnessed the lack of quality control with commercial dog food.....so who is to say it couldnt be contaminated again?
  19. well spotted PF, i didnt know this. well lets just have dogs in this program who dont eat...at all!!!!
  20. that is exactly what i was thinking...take my little Boston Terrier...lets say this, bred to be a companion animal, was fed dry dog food....would anyone expect that this dog has such a high prey drive that yesterday i found .......feathers and bones all over the yard....poor birdie. now say she was in this program...i could honestly say she was fed dry food but could anyone say they knew for sure their dog didnt eat raw meat when they were scavanging?
  21. i see what you are saying. i suppose i have a cynical mind and if i tie this new policy with their big sponsor being a dog food company i start to smell a rat
  22. Just because the OP hasnt mentioned it, doesnt mean its not the case doesnt mean it is but it comes down to not everyone has to tell DOLers every thing. this is true. i prefer not to make assumptions and was just giving a few of the top of my head scenerios where this could be an unplanned event, given some people were going down the path of it being a foreseeable (and therfore a preventable) event.
  23. this may be true but if i knew someone who was having chemo i would take NO dogs near them no matter whether they were fed raw or cooked food. just saying.
  24. yes but you wouldnt get a dog if you were in that situation would you? sometimes the armed forces tell you one thing then something changes and whoosh, you go away.....when you least expect it.....has happened to friends of mine... or you were in a relationship so the partner could stay here when you got posted but then the relationship breaks down and you have the dog....life happens
