  1. i think my dog has contact allergy from ivy so i am now in the process of removing what looks like 50 years of ivy from my garden. the ivy trunk in some places is 40cm diameter and need a chain saw to get through it eek:
  2. yes, it's a bit sad when members of a purebred dog forum are ooohing and aaaahing over pics of mongrel puppies when there are so many beautiful, thoughtfully bred pedigree pups being born. We need more pics of the purebreds and less of the mutts! so very very true and thank you again for showing us your beautiful boy.
  3. oh my i love the balance and thank you for it!!
  4. ty, my dog has contact allergies and i think these will help her out.
  5. i have just tried the clipper world web site http://www.clipperworld.com.au and an account suspended page comes up http://www.clipperworld.com.au/cgi-sys/sus...CFRKybwodtyYGWg not good at all, makes the business look dodgy
  6. yep it is a pure bred forum and your line of questions and attitude would be better placed in another forum that has cross breds as its focus IMO So you people can judge others as you please but when someone asks a question that you don't like they should go elsewhere? yes when the questions, subject and attitude are against the forum rules and intent Can you explain what you mean by the above comment from here which you should have read before posting http://www.dolforums.com.au/forumrules.html This site is for pure bred dog discussion The primary purpose of this forum is to promote and discuss pure bred dogs (as recognised by the ANKC) so we ask you respect our aim when visiting here. If you own a cross breed dog, you are also welcome here, but we ask that you refer to it by it's proper name (eg a pug-x or cavalier-x instead of the designer term 'pugalier'). Do not make comments that are likely to start or perpetuate an argument. This is not related to just having a difference of opinion. No promotion of cross breeds / designer dogs This site has nothing against cross breeds (most of us have had one at some stage in our life), however we are against the promotion of them as being superior to the purebred dog and people cashing in on the 'designer dog' craze. We also ask that you refrain from unnecessary designer dog discussion. (ie discussion that has no real purpose other than to express dismay at the latest 'cross breed' you saw (or read about)). Sure, we all know they are out there, but we prefer to concentrate on discussing the pure bred dog (ANKC recognised breeds). No denigration of pure bred dogs Speaks for itself. If you don't think pure bred dogs make the perfect pets, then maybe this forum is not for you. No denigration of responsible, registered breeders and breeding practices Our site has a lot of breeders with a lot of knowledge to share. We will not tolerate members who denigrate (however subtle) responsible breeders and breeding practices. I don't see that furballs is breaking any of those rules. All crossbred dogs in this thread have been referred to as their name rather than some cutesy name. This thread hasnt caused an argument - only a difference of opinion Nobody is promoting crossbreeds or putting down purebreds. No rules broken i really cant be bothered going through the posts and you havent either so you cant say no rules broken (having only 11 posts doesnt exactly give you much experience with the rules here either) furballs just isnt listening to what people are saying and repeatedly asking the same questions and i am done with this thread

  8. I think you're right about him picking up on me feeling sorry. I just feel like a evil human being, He cowers! I've never had a dog cower from me before . How did you change the way you train? When He gets something right I'll mark it with "Yes!" or a clicker, and then a treat. Never lost my temper with him, I've gotten frustrated but whenever that happens I'll just end whatever I'm doing and walk away. and no yelling in our household. (no kids either!) We do clicker training but I also spend time just using my voice as a marker. We where out at the park in the rain. But he has done quite a bit of training in the park and also in the rain, so not a new situation for him. He wasn't really "into" the training. He would at that point have preferred being off lead for a romp around. And I yes I have NRM. i am an assertive person and most dogs woud see me as the leader so i had to be very careful that i didnt over use this. by that i mean i had to be very aware of my body language and tone of voice. i started getting Jaxx to feel confident that she knew what i wanted. i went back to basics. what surprised me was that if i excitedly praised her it caused the same reaction so i had to change that and i now calmly parise with a subdued "good girl". once i became more calm in my approach she seemed to get that everything was ok. she is also quite stubborn, for instance she knows drop but sometimes she will only go half down as she is looking at me. now if she is in a drop whilst i am preparing her dinner and she is watching from the kitchen door, i say nothing but i stop preparing her dinner and look at her. she then drops and i start preparing her dinner again. so i tend to be very gentle with her. training was all about me understanding my training style and trial and error with what works for her. she is now much more confident and never crouches or recoils from me.

  11. i have a dog that can get upset at my tone of voice. the breed, Boston Terriers, are known to be sensitive to this. i needed to totally change the way i trained BUT it did make it much easier to let her know when i was displeased, which wasnt often. because she gets so upset she tries to please so often gets it right. however she is at the moment going through a really stubborn stage so when i say drop and she doesnt, i give her the evil eye and she drops..easy peasy!!! i would reduce the training for a day and let him settle, then stop feeling sorry for him cause that is what he is picking up on and then start training again practising the evil eye and soft voiced oi's.
  12. maybe it could be a new scent game where you have different items and use latex gloves to place all of them but only only take of the gloves so it has your scent and see if she brings it to you. she might have fun doing this!!
  13. where did you get them from please? and what style did you get? ty
  14. plan to make the pup successful. for instance you know she will bark when you leave her so wait nearby and when she takes a breathe for a few seconds, go in and give her a treat then leave and repeat often. this way she will be quiet for longer as she is learning that quiet gets rewards. you need to be really careful to get the timing right. and if you do what becks said and go in and out then only treat when she is quiet and ignore her, ie no eye contact if she is barking or making any noise
  15. Because the ongoing cost of the bitch is part of the cost of breeding a litter. You need to factor in things like entry fees for shows, trials etc that are part of proving your bitch is worth breeding from. ETA the average pet isn't DNA tested as new tests become available, hip and elbow scored, yearly eye and other health tests etc that are carried out on breeding dogs. Ok, so what are the costs for shows, etc per year? If the bitch has a littler of 10 pups each time she is bred that's a fair amount of money. I have always wondered about this so would be keen to know the answer If she has 10 pups. I spend about $1000 a year on trial entry fees, training fees etc plus the time it takes but it is my hobby. Also I only trial about once a month not show every weekend. I don't show so you would need a show person to answer that. You seem to have a problem with the fact that someone may make a profit from breeding a litter. They also take a huge risk of loosing the bitch, the pups etc. I don't have a problem with ethical breeders making a bit of money out of what they do, I know most ethical breeders who actually care about dogs will rescue so I have a lot of respect for them. I would happily give that extra bit for the cause of the dog/breed. I'm a curious person, I would like to know what the actual costs are for breeders, that's all. i think that is their business and no one elses business. and i think its a bit rude to ask the question Why is it rude to ask the question? Do breeders have something to hide? Why then should I not buy my next pup from a puppy farmer? Are you for real? Have you not learned anything thru this site. You seem to have a problem with purebred breeders, so why don't you go elsewhere, after all this is Purebred Forum Why don't you direct your efforts and questions on the practice and earnings at the vile puppy farmers , after all they are only in it for the money, nothing else, pure and simple. The dogs health and welfare does not come into it at all i know this topic is doing my head in. i really think some of the posters are in the wrong forum as they really dont want to learn about pure bred dogs bred by ethical breeders. seems there is the start of breeder bashing happening (except if they are talking about puppy farmers!!!).
  16. Please let me know what state you are in, I might be able to come and get them myself If not I can at least try to contact someone else who could take them in thank you what a terrific offer
  17. oh no, you poor thing. life has treated you harshly at the moment. no flaming here. check out CW_EW post and contact the people in the link. no one thinks badly of you and i am sure they will help. i do hope your daughter and dad are mending and that you are coping ok.
  18. furballs if you dont like what breeders charge and dont like pure bred dogs then you are on the wrong forum.

  20. i had friends that used bark busters (i only found out after the fact) and they did not help one bit. i do not think bark busters will help you i also have heard mark Singer is very good so i would give him a call.
  21. i think he looks very dapper with his short coat, i just wish they had left his ear hair longer they are both still bewtiful
  22. Pointing? when they spot prey and are telling you where it is like pic below Ohhh.. that's cool!!! When SB said pointing.. I'm picturing a dog pointing his paw in front of him lol, i did too until i saw one doing it

  24. it is great to know that she has this prey drive and she is so focussed cause it is excellent for obendience or trialling or whatever you want to do with her....just be prepared to find some dead birds one day...i have to pick dead birds up a few times a month i was just thinking... it would be awesome to use that focus in her training. I'm not a fan of birds.. dead or live i have a smallish dog with big prey drive. if you want to train her in drive look at K9Pro's training in drive course http://www.k9pro.com.au/products.php?produ...ve-%252d-Basics you may want to encourage this as i have seen dogs trained in drive and they are very impressive and they seem to get such joy out of training.
