  1. truffles are excellent. they taste different depending on the season (French summer vs French winter truffles) and depending on the region, France, Italy, Tasmania etc. they have a very earthy taste although some people cannot taste anything when they eat them, something to do with pheremones i think
  2. Maybe they don't get out much. mine flew in from NZ but they really are homebodies. i dont think there are many transported here but i would have thought more in the states
  3. yep for sure. anything bigger than a mouse would get that identification me thinks
  4. oh no why why why woud anyone deliberately do this????? bostons are not common here so i dont think there are many crosses in aus
  5. lol.....having a boston i find it hard to believe it could ever look like a pitbull...no matter what it was crossed with
  6. i would be surprised at the boston x gr...would like to see what it looked like
  7. interestingly given this is in the usa that boston terriers dont seem to be represented in the statistics
  8. Yes, why? Because he's the only child you say the pup doesn't seem to react aggressively to. I suggest you start rotating the feeding duties among all three children. The food provider is the bringer of good things. I don't know if it will help adjust the pup's attitude but it sure can't hurt. x2
  9. MM you seem to be "yes butting" a lot which makes it really difficult to help. if your dog bites your child there is no going back from there. that is all people are worried about. your "yes but" responses may mean no one will post any more cause it seems you are not taking any advice on board.
  10. yes thats what i thought you meant and that is what made me stop and think. when i had a multi dog household my dogs behave perfectly when i was around and there was never a fight or a scrap at anytime as far as i was aware however, PF's comment made me wonder whether it was my boundary setting or leadership that made this happen OR was i kidding myself and it something else given i was at work for 8 hours a day.
  11. Dogs don't have power vacuums. Who steps up when you aren't there? i was following this thread and in my head was saying, hmm, im the boss so there are clear boundaries and thats why i havent had fights when i have had a multi dog household....then along came your great question and now i have to rethink my view because you are right.
  12. when i was training my puppy and if she didnt wee when i took her outside, i carried her into the house and put her in her crate. her feet did not touch the floor. i then took her out 10m mins later and kept doing this until she weed
  13. Not always though. We compete against many show dogs as well as purpose bred Alaskan Huskies as well as other breeds like GSP's. You can do that in racing! In fact, there are very minimal racing line bred Siberians in Australia which to me is a shame. i dont think people are saying breeders must compete all the time but you (in in this example) test against similar types of dogs and are successful, therfore you know you are on the right path to achieve what you want to produce a racing line siberian. if you had never raced you wouldnt know whether your dogs were any good in that type of competition. the same goes for dogs bred to the type show standard. if breeders are breeding to the ANKC standard then they need to compete to know whether they are on the right track. because not all breeders are judges the standard needs to be interpreted using a common measure and that is what judges do.
  14. Exactly. This thread wasn't meant to be showies vs non showies. All I am saying is that not showing does not automatically exclude your dogs from having quality, which you have proved in your case. no, see my post above, the dogs are tested against dogs of the same type, its not proving your case
  15. your dogs are bred for purpose and you test them against other bred for purpose dogs (i went to your website) so you are measuring them against others. that is all that people are saying, not that shows are the be all and end all, but that it is better to prove your dogs againat others of the same type
  16. i am glad you are getting better and are overcoming the hurdles of your ordeal
  17. 1 recall 2 emergency word, in my case "WAIT!!!!" Jaxx stops in her tracks when i say this and it has been used once when she got spooked on a lead and the lead was ripped out of my hand and she was running in the middle of the road. it was the first time i used the word in real practise and it worked.
  18. thank you for an excellent informative post.
  19. walks also dont tend to tire out a dog but 10 minutes of teaching them obedience or a new trick tires them out really well. what do they have in the yard to amuse them when they are out there on their own? maybe get them some toys as has been suggested or scatter food around so they can find it (supervised to start with). if they have been bored in the yard then when you come home it becomes the most exciting thing in their day. my dog did this when she was a puppy and i paid her no attention and turned away from her until she controlled herself.
  20. i get offended when people say that because i have a pedigreed dog a pound or rescue dog has died and not been given a chance, ie i should have taken one of them instead. i have had pound puppies but i now have a set of requirements that means i NEED to know the dogs temperment, size, exercise requirements etc. the only way i can come close to getting those is if i get a pedigreed dog where they are bred to a standard and i research those standards to get a dog that will fit into my lifestyle so i can meet all of its needs.
  21. x2 especially because they havent fought before.
  22. the rule i stick to is that a puppy can hold on for one hour for each month it is old. so for a 3 month old puppy the most you can expect them to hold on is for 3 hours. i have used this rule with some success and set my alarm in the night for and take the pup out before the rule time allowance. this way the pup learns to listen to its bladder, it stops UTI's and the pup can drink.
  23. does he sleep in a crate? where is his bed? what type of bed is it? how big is his bed? there can be many variables but i have found crate training a puppy is the quickest way to toilet train, and make sure the sleeping part of the crate isnt too big. dogs and puppies dont like weeing and pooing in their bed so more info needed.
