I asked for people's opinion out of curiosity and accepted their point of view. As for the rest of the thread I was constantly scrutinised and questioned simply because I was not prepared to change my mind! Perhaps you should pose the same question to other posters that were unable to accept the way I interpreted Mr. Linke's statement. I am really getting pissed off with the hypocrisy around here, there are quite a few wonderful people here but heck some of you are downright hypocritical and nasty. I am not one of the sheep and do not intend to conform to the majority simply to be a part of the herd! And I still do not agree with HIS statement and as for the rest of you, you are more than welcome to interpret his statement any way you wish, I really don't give a damn! As I said BEFORE, to each their own! Now leave me the f*** ALONE and get a life and stop turning an innocent question into some kind of saga! wow now that is a bit much when you started the saga -
Craig Murray Dog Training

my dog has an amazing recall. if i call her she burns up the ground to come to me...why.....well she has been taught to do it and evry now and then she gets a treat...not all the times but somtimes and she never knows when sometimes is. so just in case she might miss out, she hurls herself to me every time. i am not a trainer but i think intermittent reinforcement is sometimes the most powerful. oh, and i expect her to come so i dont make a big fuss of her if i have no food...i mean, its her job to recall to me. -

Nope, not at all . It is simply showing the sentiments of DOL posters and not the public in general, lol. I must say that I am not all that surprised at the results, I have been reading DOL for a number of years, long before I joined so I had a pretty clear view as to the mentality around here, basically I had the day off yesterday and even though I suspected that the outcome would be as it has turned out I still felt like proceeding with the poll, at the end of the day it was fun , no regrets here and btw....I find Mr. Linke's explanation relating to his statement to be rather shallow, lol, his original statement was far from being "generic." wow damned if we do and damned if we dont but the only outcome is no matter what you are right... -

this doesnt make sense. i thought the council has the right to follow this up regardless of what the dead dogs owner wants -
Same here SwaY - just this week I found information that a registered breeder is actually a puppy farm and advertising all sorts of x breeds on petlink - I supplied him the evidence, and he removed them. I've also reported this to Dogs NSW and the RSPCA - what I found was disgusting. The fact that Troy removed them is pretty spectacular because as members of dogs NSW they are perfectly entitled to do exactly that and not breach their code of conduct as long as its not with their registered purebred dogs. They are also able to do that and remain within all bounds for the RSPCA. If he has removed them while they still hold dogs NSW registration - Im impressed. Really? I would think it would be against Number 3 of the code of ethics firstly, they are not 'maintaining and/or improving the standard of the Breed and the health, welfare and soundness of their dogs', and also against Number 5 'A Member shall not knowingly permit any of that Member's pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed' it doesn't say 'pedigree or papered or registered' just 'purebred' - and breeding purebred poodle to a purebred maltese to me would be a breach, whether they are papered, main registered, limited registered or not at all?? Surely Dogs NSW would not allow such a loophole? There is also Number 15 - must register all litters bred by them. How can they register cross breeds? This is a blurb from Assoc of Australian Pet breeders website placed there by a QCCC registered breeder who has also joined the puppy farmers association. My partner and I have been breeding dogs for over 16 years,we each have are own breeds and lines of dogs, although we do share our registered prefix for our Dogs QLD registered dogs, my main interests are my pet Bostons and crosses of these, I have only gotten into crosses seriously since the Qantas airline refused to carry the brachycephalic breeds if they are pure bred, they will carry crosses, and we are getting ever more enquiry for these, so I have decided to add a few to my kennel of pure Bostons who may be had on pet registry papers as well, all bitches are desexed weather cross of pure no dog is sold for breeding. All pure bred Bostons are either cleared by parentage or by direct DNA tests of being affected by Hereditary Juvenile Cataracts, crosses cannot be tested, but any we breed ourselves with be bred from clear dogs, to start off this new crossbred venture, some dogs have been purchased who are not from tested stock, but we have been careful to buy from breeders who have been breeding for some generations without many, if any, problems. and this is why i didnt buy a boston from qld...sorry for all the good breeders there but i didnt want to take any chances

please let us know how you go.

yeah, i'm very excited about this... although, not sure how much help it would be, it would be nice to talk to a vet or someone who has little information about it. i think it is exciting because the disease is similar to what humans get so i was thinking that they may be able to treat charlie with similar drugs. at least he isnt the only one and more vets know about the disease
-
wow what a great find well done. hopefully your vet can talk to the vets in the article and it will help charlie. very exciting ;)
-
i wasnt being petty about the vetrans. i really do not understand putting human emotions onto dogs it makes no sense to me. additionally, my dogs know they are special because i tell them. i am made of stone when it comes to sentimentality.
-
ok please correct me if i am wrong but i was under the impression that shock collars where illegal in SA for some time now (along with prong collars) there was def a campaign by the RSPCA to make them so. If this is the case the council should not be loaning them to anybody Please don't missunderstand me to mean i don't agree with these methods of training where other options have been tried and failed. Its just that as an owner and a vet nurse that i would be VERY careful about using them without doing my research on this as i know the collars are still widely available and would not want to be charged for " animal cruelty" either Well don't say anything. x2 and maybe also check what you are saying re prong collars in SA.
-
i know someone who bought this but it didnt work for their dogs. if the dogs bark in the garage it is likely to be more annoying as the noise echos
-
Can anyone reconcile these two excerpts?? AND If you need other people to make your old dog feel special, you ain't trying hard enough IMO. We should treasure the oldies every day, not just on a show day. Clearly I am made of stone. i must be made of stone too

fran i would go back to the store and tell them what you said here. do it soon because if you wait too long it can make it difficult. they should sort it out for you. if they dont ask to see the manager as they should never have sold you the lens without explaining about the motor. i have a d40x that has no motor in the body and when i went to camera house the guy told me that i would be limited in the lenses i could buy. -
i got mine from Erin, excellent service, really prompt posting and quick to answer my questions. the collars are great, puts my mind at ease

No I do not have them confused. Both the remote training collar and the anti bark collars are aversive methods. With the anti bark collar there is no guarantee that the dog will associate the shocks or the spray with the barking. Whilst hypothetically they should, there is still no guarantee. i really disagree with what you have said here. all training tools have their place and in some cases the tools you have mentioned are the only thing between keeping a dog and it being pts. any tool can be misused that is why it is imperative that any tool is used correctly and with the assistance of a trainer or behaviouralist. True it is that any tool can be misused even a basic flat collar. However I think that it is important that someone researches both arguments before making a decision to use select tools. It is ultimately important that the OP is presented with options that will allow her to hopefully do some further research and make an informed decision based on her needs. End of the day it's to each their own...I just thought it is important that the OP gets a variety of opinions and information. I am a Purely Positive trainer. no kiddin, i wouldn't have guessed. you cannot be irresponsible and scaremongering when people are genuinely looking for solutions.
