  1. what an awful accident, it can happen so quickly. condolences to all affected.
  2. in hunting it means 2 of, ie a brace of rabbits is 2 rabbits or a brace of pheasants is 2 pheasants etc
  3. Hi Troy i have been putting comments into your post re feedback on the website and the posts were there and now they are not. the topic has 0 posts. there are a few topics with 0 posts so maybe a problem? ty ets wierd the posts are back now
  4. excellent breakthrough. can you try saying "yes" instead of using the clicker? she may have some negative association with the noise?
  5. thank you the work pacers do is amazing and i was happy to help
  6. what about something that smells bad or that shoots out a stream of compressed air or water when the animal moves past it
  7. this might be a bit left field but do you think she has a problem with her back? can she lift her paw when standing? maybe start with this then try the sittng position
  8. i agree with the tiny steps. what i have seen is to get a dog to touch a washing maching door, with its nose (or paw) this was the start of the end behaviour of getting the washing out of the machine. so it started very simply and then build up new behaviours on the previous learnt behaviour, until you have the behaviour you want maybe watch peggie and start rewarding something she already does then attach a command to it then once she gets the idea try to put in new behaviours.
  9. it looks like he has on a nice fur stole to keep his shoulders warm...priceless pics
  10. thank you for that Julie, you are more than welcome. i found our discussion extremely interesting and i have a great deal of admiration for what MDBA Pacers do. we have all seen some of what has been done and i am really sure more has happened behind the scenes. thanks to all in Pacers who make this happen
  11. maybe you arent doing anything wrong. i saw an article about assistance dogs and it said that dogs were either paw dogs or nose dogs. in other words some dogs use paws to target and some dogs use noses. maybe peggie is a nose dog. maybe try another command using her nose and see if she gets it quicker
  12. x 2 i do this if i am in doubt or worried and the vets dont seem to mind.
  13. this must be awful for you. is she on cortisone? the reason i ask is that 2 dogs i know that have been on cortisone have had odd head twitching. when the cortisone stopped so did the head twitching
  14. sorry Joel but i think you are way off track in your suggestions.
  15. I know that people get it wrong (and that cant be helped), but if people were advised about a dog that was being kept on another premises which matches or even slightly RESEMBLES what their dog looks like then you would think that the owner has the same opportunity to find their dog, even if they have to travel a little bit (they would probably have to travel less though because pounds are usually further away than where dogs are found). so are you suggesting that the person holding the dogs have strangers come to their door to check whether the dog they are holding belongs to the strangers? the pound is where most people know to go to to check for their dogs not someones back yard. and i thought that pound staff were really busy so how will they have the time to send people to the holders home?
  16. your kidding right? have you any idea how just changing the colours around on a dog can be confusing? I have a desexing certificate here for a white and fawn dog, colour the vets put down - tan and white, huge difference. They saw the dog, they operated on him, and still put the colour down wrong. I worked at a shelter and the people who rang up looking for a black and white dog when the dog was really white and black was huge. I quickly learnt to pin them down to the correct colour and description, cause when you're looking for a lost foxie X, for example, correct colour and description helps to find them. *Sigh* You're arguing with me about the difference between describing a dog as 'black and white' or 'white and black'... are you kidding me?! As soon as someone calls up going "Hey, I lost a black and white Fox Terrier cross, with a black dot on his head" would you not automatically go "Well, we dont have anything here by that description, but you're welcome to come and have a look. Also, we've had a call from someone from your area with a dog that sounds like it might match your description. Why don't you give them a call too"? The issue could then be that someone could call up, go to this persons house and take the dog whether it was theirs or not. Having said that, with a dog with no collar, no tags and no findable chip, this could happen anyway. people are always advised to go to the pound to look for their dog and to not rely on the pound staff or the pounds description of the dog. same applies here, pound staff do get it wrong, the owner is less likely to get it wrong on sighting the dog
  17. i wait until i desex to chip. maybe they did the same? ets i have small dogs so desex at 6 months
  18. i have a smaller dog (a boston) and i will not use off leash parks. it is too easy for my dog to be damaged and i wont take the risk as the reward is not high enough for me or the dog. i am not saying bigger dogs cant get hurt but mine could get killed.
  19. i agree but put an allegedly aggressive dog together with a 4 year old child (or any child) and i think caution is called for and that is why i suggested the dog is removed from the home to a more suitable location...and i do not think a more suitable location would be found using an ad in gumtree. once a dog has bitten a child there is no turning back. the dog needs assessment before it goes anywhere, just in case another child resides in its new home.
  20. Im done with this girl, she has made me look like an idiot. Not only has she lied to me but she has obviously been deceptive from the very start. She does not have the dogs best interest at heart and Im done. I feel like a bit fat fool! please dont feel bad. you came here looking for help and with a great deal of honesty and integrity. it is not you fault your aquaintance does not have those same values.
  21. the issue is the 4 year old child. i for one would not want to be suggesting this puppy be allowed to stay in the house with this child as the risks are far too high. the childs safety comes first and the new owners do not have the luxury of time to fix the problems due the the presence of the child and a HA dog/puppy in the same vicinity. its a recipe for disaster
  22. there is the same discussions happening in the US regarding red Boston Terriers. the breeders there are also of the opinion that breeding just for red is not good and honestly, i have seen pics of the reds and they are sometimes huge and way outside the standard. they are also afflicted with skin problems....and most importantly, they are NOT recognised colour in legitimate kennel clubs.
