  1. here is an article from the abc http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/09/09/3006722.htm
  2. on tv just now there was an ad for channel nine news with the stolen chi as a news item
  3. Only going for a day! OH going over for work so his fare and fare for car will be paid for so thought we'd tag along seeing as it will be school holidays and we'll only have to pay for the extra 3 people. Don't think pup would cope on his own in the car e ven in his crate so I think OH will have to go on his own as don't really want to leave Hugo home alone all day particularly with weather being so awful lately. the last time i went over i took the dog onto the deck. maybe check but i am think that is still the case
  4. you did nothing wrong ??? lets BEGIN with a registered breeder having a crossbred litter fifi i dont know if this is right but i didnt think a registered breeder was allowed to sell puppies to pet shops?
  5. well if they are sold as dutch x gsd the dam must be one or the other surely?
  6. no its not - I have it in black and white in front of me. Along with other interesting things from Kristina. I dont make things up. If you have evidence that Kristina is selling more puppies to pet shops or breeding for this purpose, feel free to post it. If not, I'm afraid I'm going to have assume it is speculation and ignore it Glad to see at least one person in here with a brain I just prefer to see evidence before going to all the effort of unpacking my torch and pickfork. It's another symptom of my laziness, really. On a slightly related note.. The people tossing around the words like "idiot" and what-have-you might want to just bear in mind the forum rule about not attacking other members. Just sayin' i agree with this HA but we arent going to get the info here methinks
  7. Puppy farmers. I cannot imagine any responsible ethical breeder selling their babies to a pet store. Yup...I know a few breeder's, all registered, and reputable. None of them would even consider selling to a pet store. Guess that's the difference between an ethical breeder and some one with no ethics who is only interested in the money Oh ye, the money, stupid. U'd make a hell of a lot more by selling private. can i ask you why the pups werent sold privately? seems to me that would have been a better option for everyone. Er, she tried..............................on gumtree ok so the next question is why didnt they sell, why did the breeder not keep the puppies until suitable homes were found? ets i have no issues with puppies being sold on gumtree i just dont understand why they ended up in a pet shop

  9. Totally agree unfortunately i have to agree
  10. I'd rather have seen high drive working line puppies euthanised instead of put in a pet store by their stupid, irresponsible breeder where the pups were sold to first time dog owners with young children... who have zero idea or concept of the requirement of high drive working dogs. "Whoever" has put these puppies in PP has done more harm than good to the breed, Nekhbet is simply one of a few people who have been trying to clean up "someones" mess. x2 totally agree huski. i am appalled that those puppies have ended up in a pet store with zero checking on who will own the pups. high drive dogs deserve to be with owners who understand their particular needs. this situation defies belief.
  11. SC have the owners talked to the breeder about taking the puppy back? that would seem to me to be the best approach for the puppy
  12. my only thought SC is whether tango has been settled for enough time so he wont go backwards. has his behaviour been ingrained enough so the new pup wont cause any issues to resurface? there is no doubt that you could give this pup a terrific home but you need to make sure that it wont unbalance your pack.
  13. this is why i do not use off leash dog parks its an accident waiting to happen. we have no idea of the amount of training or control other people have over their dogs.
  14. just because a dog is dog aggressive it doesnt mean it is human aggressive so if a child ran up to the dog it is just as likely that it would not have reacted at all.
  15. and this from my council It is important to be in charge of a dog and to understand dogs being exercised freely must be under effective control. This means you are able to control the dog by command and always keep close to the dog so you are able to see it at all times.
  16. SA law is a bit different where effective control is restrained on a leash of no longer than 1.8 or 2 metres???. In an off leash park, none are under effective control from that definition when unleashed, so I don't know how that one sits legally here in SA???. Fiona fiona i am in sa and effective control means that the dog must respons to your commands when off leash. Yes, you would think so, but the Dog and cat Management Act only referred to effective control as leashed and restrained by a person 16 years or over I think it was and the 1.8 or 2 metre long leash. I haven't looked at the Act for a while, but there was no mention of off leash control that I recall???. I have read some other acts that mentioned voice control perhaps Vic or another state, but I can't recall anything like that in our SA one??? Fiona here it is: For the purposes of this Act, a dog will be taken to be wandering at large while— (a) the dog is in a public place (other than a park) or a private place without the consent of the occupier, and no person is exercising effective control of the dog by means of physical restraint; or (b) the dog is in a park and no person is exercising effective control of the dog either— (i) by means of physical restraint; or (ii) by command, the dog being in close proximity to the person and the person being able to see the dog at all times. but then it does specifically talk about physical control: 8—Meaning of effective control of dog by means of physical restraint For the purposes of this Act, a person is exercising effective control of a dog by means of physical restraint if— (a) the person is exercising effective control of the dog by means of a chain, cord or leash that does not exceed 2 metres in length restraining the dog; or (b) the person has effectively secured the dog— (i) by placing it in a cage, vehicle or other object or structure; or (ii) by tethering it to a fixed object by means of a chain, cord or leash that does not exceed 2 metres in length. and this: the owner of the dog is unable to maintain effective control of the dog (whether by command or by means of physical restraint). so i think it doies mean effective control is also by the dog obeying your command
  17. i also bought a wireless door bell that i could use by having the doorbell pusher in my hand then rining it then opening the door. that way i could do it all myself..worked a treat
  18. The easiest and most reliable way is just to manage it. Is your dog crate trained? Will she go in on command? My dog will go off his nut if anyone comes to the door, but I don't see this as a bad thing. If it's someone I'm going to let in (like a visitor) he gets his "in your crate" command. He goes in, I close the crate, he settles quietly, then I open the front door. Takes all of about 10 seconds and everyone is happy If it's someone I'm NOT going to let in -like religious doomsday people wanting to lecture me on the evils of the earth- he does not go in the crate. I open the big wooden door and let him carry on though the (locked) screen door whilst they make a hasty retreat ...I'm a baaaad owner sometimes this is what i do...all of the above. works perfectly for me too i must be baad too

  20. you are required to have efective control over your dog if it is off leash. that means the dog follows any command you give it whilst it is off leash. if you dont have effective control then the dog should be leashed
  21. how scary for you all. i was just wondering if rescue remedy might help with the after effects...maybe for you and whitey
