  2. excellent..i have the same panic threshold..if they are drinking and weeing the i dont worry as much
  3. buggar...when jaxx is feeling unwell i give her only a little food mostly cooked rice and some cooked (boiled chicken) and maybe some cooked pumpkin (if she has the squirts) the rice and chicken seem to settle her tummy. hope she is alright
  4. NM some dogs just guts their food no reason except they eat fast...i have one of those so she gets every bone frozen...and the other good thing about that is it takes her longer to eat it!!! i think its a good idea to leave her out after she has eaten the bone so she doesnt gulp it down to get in
  5. yep thats what i do, they cant gulp them down they have to chew them
  6. united we stand, divided we fall this is worth remembering if we want to hold onto what is dear to us. sometimes in a crisis there can be many strange bedfellows who fight together
  7. here is the full rhyme Ladybird ladybird fly away home, Your house in on fire and your children are gone, All except one and that's little Ann, For she crept under the frying pan.
  8. thats what i was trying to say before but you have said it better than i did. i am sure for most breeds colours were chosen for the standards based on the experiences of the breeders and what colours made healthy dogs
  9. Yes in most other border collie standards around the world. well i think that for me means that she is ok. for instance in NO officially recognised standard is the red boston an accepted colour so therefore they shouldn't be bred. so i see it as ok if the official standards in recognised countries say the colour is good
  10. You will find that a lot of the problem with certain breeds and their non-acceptance of colour is that in some cases, they cannot actually pinpoint the origin of the colour in history. Some breeds have therefore questioned the validity of pedigrees and claimed that the "odd" colours (which may still be perfectly beautiful) have come in via infusions of genetics from other breeds carrying the colours. This is one of the leading arguments behind the non-acceptance of the sable colour in American Cockers today. It was hinted at some time ago that another breed was introduced, either accidentally or deliberately into certain pedigrees and this is where the sable (and possibly the merle) genes started to happen. Despite the fact that there were for a few years some simply stunning examples of Sable and Sable parti American Cockers shown, and titled, it is now possible to register them but they are DQ'd from the ring in the USA, Australia and some other countries. But permissible in Canada and the UK. Very confusing. One of my old American imports is the grandfather of some simply breathtaking sable/parti dogs (one is an All Breeds BIS winner in the USA) but he never sired a sable to my knowledge during his stud career in Australia. aahhh!!! the penny dropped, that made a lot of sense, thank you ellz
  11. sorry i dont know enough about the breed. what is the issue with her colour? The main issue is that the border collie standard in Australia is weird. lol. Amber isn't one of the allowed colours. I could find no health issues with sable border collies. She had no problems getting naughty sheep out of a corner when she was 6 months so her colour hasn't effected her herding ability either. Thanks Ker thank you. she is gorgeous, is the colour acceptable in any standard?
  12. Out of curiosity, do these apply to breeds where those colours are common? Example being my Black labs, would they be more susceptible to certain kinds of cancer? Or is it only the case in breeds where the colour is rare/disqualified? Or Samoyeds, are they more su susceptible to deafness ect? i think it is when the genetics go off and you get a wrong colour and all the rest of the genetic mix that predisposes to deafness, allergies etc
  13. sorry i dont know enough about the breed. what is the issue with her colour?
  14. Dog allergies are not always a result of genetics, FCOL. Outside influences can promote allergies in dogs just as the same applies to people. but often they are. maybe it is genetic in people as well...you dont know
  15. there would be no problems with dogs with allergies if they were culled. some people are making very little logical sense
  16. Not really applicable to the Stafford standard which is really very old and prior the days of knowledge of skin and health issues. Also, remember that the Stafford was very much a "working class man's dog". They were expected to be tough, live tough and not get mollycoddled. If they weren't robust, they were culled. If they couldn't do their job, they were replaced. very true ellz
  17. i also think we might have forgotten why some things are in the breed standard..maybe, just maybe they are in there because with colour it was noticed that the dogs had health problems. and it would have been noticed over generations something that we will see nowadays when dogs are bred for a particular colour.
  18. she has a waist but for some reason I can't feel her ribs? I've gotten other people to try (in case it is just me being stupid) and they also can't feel her ribs without significant effort ie. digging in/pressing really hard Do puppies have more skin covering or something? i like to keep my dogs trim so i like to feel their ribs without pressing too much. i like a thin covering of fat. i have had labs before and most people think my labs have been starved but they were really the right size just people have forgotten what a lab should look like because most of them are too heavy eta that i never trust the amounts on the dog food packets because if i did all my dogs would be really fat. jaxx gets half what they recommend (when she got kibble) and she was going fine with that amount. she now gets raw
  19. the measure i use is does she have a waist? can you feel her ribs?
  20. Here are a couple of splash Bpstons which cannot be shown. mis-marked bostons are quite usual and here is a Boston with a blue eye and white face, again this is a disqualifying fault
  21. i thought you might have liked the red boston monah
  22. i do not have a miniature boxer with a docked tail, i have a boston terrier she gets mistaken for a frenchie and i get that but a miniature boxer??????? bostons burp, snore and fart but all of this can be controlled with diet (thank goodness)
  23. So, by rights, the OP should have called the local Council, and asked for a Ranger to inspect the premises...because Council officers are responsible for ensuring 'puppy farms are comlying with the code for breeding facilities? Why then, when the OP called the RSPCA, did they not say..'Unless you have witnessed actual cruelty, you should call the local Council and ask them to investigate'. :) You could then assume that if a Council Ranger encountered any abuse, they would then call in the RSPCA? It seems like a lack of communication all round? The OP sees what looks like a puppy farm, which concerns them and is worried that there might be neglect occuring due to the number of dogs and the disrepair of the premises, so calls the RSPCA, thinking they are the correct authority to call. They hear nothing back, so calls again, and again...and still hears nothing back from the RSPCA.......but by rights, should have been told by the RSPCA to call the local Council to report their concerns in the first place. :D it appears so. i think there is a huge problem here TM and very poor communication from the people in authority
