  1. they think it is funny because they are bullies and they are arrogant so they probably wont believe you. the only thing you could do is to find pics of children who have had facial bites and ask them is it worth it them being wrong and you being right...or ask them if they should just cut the odds and stop stirring up the dog and get a trainer in.
  2. wow that seems very serious. is there any way to find out if they mean puppies sold on main register?
  3. if we think about smoking as an example.... i am old enough to remember smoking at my office desk. the non-smokers hated it and nobody cared. now if i was to light up (i am a non-smoker now) outside not even in a room most people look at me with a frown. the world can change...so what changed smokers and smoking, i believe it was education
  4. maybe not so tongue in cheek. there are extremists everywhere...just depends if anyone is listening to them and buying what theysay
  5. The Qld law which allows RSPCA intervention, is a relatively new one, so includes some emphasis on a review/appeals structure. In line with current public expectations. The final process is via an independent tribunal & that is written into the law. I already posted about that & my memory is that you, JB, responded. I don't know the laws & their accountability structures in other states. yes it was checked out and a formal appeals process wasn't found mita if you have a link handy i would appreciate it as i couldn't find one and i do prefer to give out the right information
  6. Where DO you complain to, if you feel the SPCA have treated you unfairly? I've got to say I wouldn't have the foggiest where to start, and the website doesn't give me any clue either. Does anyone know how you'd go about making a complain or appeal against an RSPCA decision? there is no where, i am serious, there is no appeals process, best you could do is complain to the minister maybe. but the police have a formal appeals process and so should the rspca
  7. It makes arguing to make rescue groups a special case for licensing exemptions very bloody difficult. Lets hark back to the recent 28 day rule thread where this was posted. When you've got the likes of PH failing to be able to comply with council requirements after 18 months of council working with them and treating them pretty damn well, then it plays right into the argument that rescue groups need to be regulated because they can't be trusted to do the right thing any other way. I keep saying this. Rescues will be judged by the worst of their number, not the best. Right now, PH appears to be making a very good case for the need for licensing and regular inspection because it appears they cannot be relied on to comply with current requirements on numbers or paperwork. That's not good for the wider rescue scene in Victoria. If it turns out in the future that the longest PH can house a dog is 28 days before compulsory euthanasia, then the seeds of that situation lie with them. and makes it almost impossible to have a no kill shelter
  8. the number crunching will be here tomorrow hopefully. lots of annual reports to read
  9. well maybe i will number crunch for all the state rspca's.
  10. i have run some fairly large organisations and i can read financial statements. if i was on the board of the rspca i would be very concerned at having that much cash around for several reasons, one is it isnt working hard enough for the organisation, two it looks unseemly in a not for profit organisation, three it stops people donating as much because it looks like the are awash with cash (which they are) and four it would worry me that the staff would start to feel disaffected, especially if they have to scrimp and scrape to look after the animals (not saying this is happening) so whilst i may not know the rspca, i do know business and balance sheets. eta and the cash amount is increasing every year so they are not spending
  11. alyosha not at all. i think the rspca should be paying their workers more, i respect the work you do and everyone who attempts to make the abandoned animal situation better. i apologise if i have written anything that gave you that idea. in fact, i am appalled that in sa alone they have $8 million in CASH and are paying workers crap wages...all i was saying is that until workers start saying its not good enough then they will continue to have low wages.
  12. why shouldn't breeders make money? this attitude astounds me. we expect breeders to sink time and money and resources and emotion and then give us a perfect puppy at a cheap price....why on earth would they do that? do you not think that there might be less breeders around because of this "if they make a profit they are a puppy farmer" mentality?
  13. well in SA alone the have over $8 million ion cash and make a profit of between $1 million and $2 million per year. maybe they could use some of that money using $150 subsidy and only $1 million 6,600 animals could be desexed each year under such a scheme in SA alone using only $500k there is still 3000 pets desexed each year
  14. i have worked in many community organisations and this is always the strategy, whether it is animals, kids or the disadvantaged. they all run on paid staff volunteer labour and will continue to do so until the staff demand more income...without feeling guilty about doing it eta, i would be asking what the surplus cash was earmarked for also, some vets already under their own initiative provide low cost desexing so they are taking the money out of their own pockets ... and i have so much respect for what they do...how about the rspca help them? here are the vets who are involved http://www.ndn.org.au/index.html
  15. Wonder when they'll bring in the $50 desexing for all dogs (and cats). dunno...do you think they can afford it without going broke? ;)
  16. sa rspca alone had a $2 million excess after all expenses from last years income the year before it was $1 million they have $8.6 million current cash assets they have $6.1 million of non-current assets they have current liabilities of $600k there were few animals housed other than cats and dogs they have money look at their annual reports for each state maybe i will crunch the numbers
  17. part of the issue has been PH's own supporters abusing this forum's members thereby diverting focus from the animals
  18. I would be too. me too i would be talking to the governing body especially if they follow the proper petition rules and get the minor's address as well as their signature
  19. in the macedon ranges council area Located at Shop 6/130 High Street WOODEND VICTORIA 3442
  20. I did try to get that across to her - maybe in the other thread - but apparently to no effect i know which is sad because the dogs get lost in the insults
  21. So she wants to be contacted via Email rather than Facebook. Big deal! Every shelter I know has animals in FOSTER HOMES. It is nothing unusual at all. Hardly "hiding" them The reality is that there are more animals than homes for them so people doing rescue work do their bit to help each other. It seems like this thread is mostly filled with nasty people with no community spirit. The way some of you have responded makes me wonder if you are puppy farmers. can you not see that PH must comply with regulations and if it repeatedly doesn't then it is doing the wrong thing by the dogs? and don't you realise that your insults are doing nothing to endear anyone to your cause?
  22. well that says it all. they had a permit for a certain amount of animals and the seriously went over that amount. according to the article they had a permit for 20 cats and 8 dogs but were found to have 62 cats and nine dogs. what on earth did they expect. now the animals suffer more. one can only wonder about the conditions they were kept in
  23. Depends on what you spend it on really. And how you take into account all the donated goods and services that would otherwise cost you a substantial amount of money. and include the reduction in tax because it is a registered charity which reduces costs as well
