  1. annie as explained before there are commonwealth legislation that prevents the ankc from stipulating that their members cannot sell puppies to pet shops. it is the fair trade legislation you cannot read anything emotional into this situation, it is factual and the law eta that the ankc does restrict it's members to only sell to PIAA pet shops
  2. Thanks for that clarification. So therefore, like it or not, ANKC is supporting puppy farmers - or at best allowing them to be part of their group. I would not call a group that supports sale of pups to pet shops reputable. No this is not true. more accurately is that the ankc allows its members to sell puppies to pet shops.
  3. not sure unless it is a voluntary restriction, ie agreement by breeders not to engage in that activity and ramifications by the organisation if they breach their voluntary agreement? Can someone tell me if this is right ANKC - sells to pet shop MDBA - does not sell to pet shops If that is the case, I will go with MDBA correct
  4. the ankc has determined that ankc breeders selling puppies to a PIAA pet shop is allowable under their rules and CoE
  5. not sure unless it is a voluntary restriction, ie agreement by breeders not to engage in that activity and ramifications by the organisation if they breach their voluntary agreement?
  6. Um those COE are no more special than what ANKC members already abide by are you sure showdog? i thought ankc members were allowed to sell puppies to pet shops, i would like to know if i am wrong though. I believe through PIAA accredited & it has to do with freedom of sale (govt law) ty that's what i thought. ankc members can sell puppies to accredited PIAA pet shops whereas MDBA members cannot.

  8. Actually there is heaps of stuff on the net about dodgy puppy farmers including pictures, and they are named. It is just not in one place and takes some time to find. I know of several in Australia - and these same ones have glossy websites showing the great conditions the dogs live in. Yet when raids occur it paints a somewhat different picture. i totally disagree with those tactics and have no time for anyone who raids premises or supports illegal activities two wrongs do not make a right
  9. Asking others in the breed will soon turn up who is legit and not. If the same thing comes up over 5-10 different breeders, you know there is some truth to it. true sway and in one instance that's how i found out in the other instance it was their answers that tipped me off. just to be clear, i am not bagging all ankc breeders but i think the ankc brand is being undermined by dodgy breeders making it hard for puppy buyers to determine who are good breeders
  10. puppy farmers cannot be named as they are not breaking the law. a name and shame will get the web owner into serious legal conflict with anyone named. just because people do not like puppy farmers does not make their activities on their own illegal
  11. yes and those sort of breeders are everywhere yes they are but the question i asked was how do puppy buyers find out and i was told by sway to research. i did this and only after almost putting a deposit down i found the breeder was dodgy. this breeder told lies and misinformed me. so research will not always result in a good breeder so again i ask how can we help puppy buyers pick a good breeder given ankc registration isn't always a good indication
  12. sway the reason i ask this is because whilst researching breeders i came across a couple of ankc registered breeders who talked the talk but were quite suspect. now i am an experienced person and i nearly got sucked in. research is fine but if breeders are out to deliberately deceive it is very difficult for puppy buyers.
  13. that's what i did. if he gets a treat being rough then he has been rewarded for this behaviour which you don't want. i did have a few scrapes on my finger until mine got the hang of it however now she is extremely gentle. eta there are some really good trainers here so hopefully they will come in and give you more advice
  14. i taught my dog "gentle" and she NEVER got the treat if she snatched it roughly
  15. Is that right? How do you know? From reading this dog forum? If we are talking anecdotal what about the people who buy from backyarders and shonky breeders/puppy farms who have a great dog and couldn't be happier? this does not deserve a reply and promoting non-pure bred dog breeders is against forum rules
  16. How often does the average puppy buyer end up with heartache very often if you read past dol posts. no health/dna testing mean a higher incidence of illness and vet bills and reduced life span no knowledge of parentage or no breeding for temperament can mean a dog with weak nerve which could be pts due to aggression or fear issues
  17. I really don't think that Joe Average will give two hoots about a registry's COE Joe Average wants a pup, he wants it now, and he doesn't want papers because he has no plans to breed or show. then they deserve all the heartache this lack of education will cause them
  18. i agree steve. there seems to be a lot of "rules on the run" where people put their own values and ethics onto breeders when actually the breeders are doing nothing wrong. i think people need to read the CoE for each group so they can understand the right rules. then maybe they will understand the complexity of this issue. just because we don't like something that is happening doesn't make it unlawful
  19. Do only good people say bad things? Seems a bit contradictory to me. Could you stop shouting at people, please? Aside from the rudeness, it makes me simply not want to get into your posts because it's always so over the top. x2
  20. showdog, this is an honest question, how do we, as puppy buyers differentiate good ankc breeders (which i agree are definitely out there) from the dodgy ones? i think this is the issue here, it seems a bit hit and miss for puppy buyers who don;t have a lot of experience of registered breeders
  21. that was my experience when looking for a breeder. i carefully listened and figured out who not to go to. i respected breeders for the way they gave me information
  22. jed you are giving mis-information. it is not about whether you can get dogs without SM but to make sure SM is at least registered so that there is at least a way to track it to learn more about it and what lines it shows up in you know, what's best for the breed and all that
  23. patronising me won't work Jed. I am not easily confused and i do know what i am talking about. this is the second time this thread you have had a go at me for no good reason. if you are saying the cost is stopping you and other breeders then i do not think this is acceptable.
  24. it's not compulsory in SA my dog is de-sexed but has no tattoo
