wow - code of ethics in SA says that a registered breeder can not sell to pet shops at all. How come it is different in NSW? i will check out the ankc and sa dogs but i was sure it had something to do with the ankc not being able to restrict trade so the ruke was that registered breeders could only sell to PIAA pet shops eta do you have a link to the SA code of ethics please? yep - on the dogssa website - download the rule book - page 41 - code of ethics for all SACA members http://www.dogssa.com.au/Website/index.php?id=10&level=2 11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest or any kind. thank you for that. i will look at the ankc rules eta here are the ankc regulations from here http://www.ankc.org.au/Regulations-1.aspx 26. A member shall not: .1 Sell or dispose of a dog to a commercial pet wholesaler or retail pet shop unless they are accredited by the Pet Industry Association of Australia Limited (PIAA). .2 Allow a dog owned by that member to be given as a prize or donation or to be auctioned. i do not believe dogssa can restrict a breeders trade and if they can then the ankc should be following their lead

Charitable Vet Sevices In Sa

Care Credit accounts through GE, are 6 months interest free! Southern animal hospital at Morphett vale does these accounts You can get up to 12 months on interest free and up to 4 years with interest (depending on approval etc). I this line of credit, such peace of mind! GE may not help people on low incomes or benefits as potential customers have a credit criteria to meet -
Charitable Vet Sevices In Sa

my understanding was vets were required to stabilise an animal in an emergency situation (or pts depending on circumstance) but were in no way required to undertake remedial work on the animal. so for instance, a dog that had been hit by a car and broke it's leg, the vet would stabilise the dog, give it pain medication but was under no obligation to mend the broken leg. i think this is entirely reasonable otherwise how on earth can they get paid. i for one want my vet clinic to charge....i want them around in the long term, they are good and i want to keep using them. -
from the pic posted your dog looks in good shape. i like my dogs lean and i was often accused of starving my lab because she had a waist, you could feel and see her ribs, she had muscle and could swim a great distance...she was beautiful i have a smaller dog now and i fed her too much (i was used to bigger dogs) so she went on a diet and now has a waist and i can feel her ribs...she isn't as lean as i had my bigger dogs but i am ok with how she is now. we get so used to seeing overweight dogs we have forgotten what a lean healthy dog looks like :D

stormie that is almost word for word what i was told by my vet clinic (apart from the assault) i know, really know, that they would assist me if i didn't have the money...but i have been a loyal customer for 15 years and my last dog was really old so i was there a lot . my daughter goes there with her dogs as well i do not think it is reasonable for us to expect vets to take credit risks, they learn to be vets not financiers. i also think that there needs to be a clinic set up for people on low incomes, there are clinics like this in the UK but i am not sure how they run -
it seems she has got used to not walking with you. maybe go back to basics. use food or toys to motivate her forward. maybe a little push behind hind legs to make her move forward if nothing works i would be getting in a professional so the behaviour doesn't get ingrained

ok i just had a long lovely chat with my vet clinic they do not do credit and said there are very few vet clinics that do because they have lost a lot of money as people have not paid the account. GE Finance do have a facility for providing credit to approved applicants for vet bills over $300. (i think this is what is called care credit) however, if i needed to have anything done to my pets and i didn't have the money they would do it and i could pay it off because they have been my vet clinic for 15 years so they know me and they know i will be back and that i would pay them they don't know of any place that provides any services for people on low incomes -
Harness For Running Beside Bike

Thanks for clearing that up, it looks like I'm all good except I'll have to walk (or drive) to get to them. yep, i think that's what usually happens. -

I wonder about fire trails in the bush? They are the best places to go usually. I also wonder about having the leash attached to your person? Endurance trials are still legal, so maybe that is OK? I sometimes attach the leash to a hands-free belt but then you have all sorts of problems that a Springer solves. I bought a scooter from the tip shop but my dogs are too old to pull someone of my weight. you can do this anywhere as long as it isn't a public road where other road rules apply...so lots of places like fire trails or forest trails (as long as they allow dogs of course) -
Harness For Running Beside Bike
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to Aidan3's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Ahh, got it. Is there some resistance to this in the dog world? I found out the other day that a significantly large number of people think weight pulling is cruel. That surprised me. i think as with most things there are several camps of thought. i have no problems with weight pulling and in fact one of my previous dogs love it so much she would try to pull things on her own i think with milan it's because people see things on tv then go do them without checking if it's good for their dog or whether it's legal. -

i don't think you are allowed to do this any more in SA either. haven't seen a dog running next to a bike for a long time. i think the cesar milan comment was because he is shown often on his tv show with dogs pulling him along on roller blades and him riding a bike with a dog running beside him. -
i think a consult with a professional would help greatly.

just remember Scotland has no snakes but lots of snow and associated chilblains!!!!! glad it's all ok now i have a fishwives voice which i use for "WAIT" :D ....i come from Glasogow where that voice is mandatory
-
excellent Monah....good to hear no bitey's. i am like you, i am not worried about too much training but a solid recall is critical and a safety word. i taught jaxx "WAIT" and if i yell that she stops in her tracks, hangs her head down and does not move a muscle until i get to her. it saved her life when she got startled when we were out walking and the lead got out of my hand and there was traffic on the road. because she waited the cars could go round her and i ran up and got her.......i didn't know i still had a sprint in me :D
-
that sounds odd Monah, no one is supposed to get your email addy from dol. maybe make sure it is a legit email and maybe if it is a bit suss email it to Troy as there may be some issues he needs to look at? glad things are staying the same
-
excellent news
-
Monah what an ordeal i hope all goes well and fingers crossed for a very uneventful next few months

with a baby involved i wouldn't be doing anything (especially some of cesar milan's methods) without a behaviourist except to keep them separated and / or supervised at all times

What Makes A Dog Attack On Dog/puppy, But Love
Jaxx'sBuddy replied to Caesars mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
trainers and behaviourists know dog behaviour very well so maybe get one involved as the puppy may need to build its confidence up again -
i think this is a great idea. jaxx was really overwhelmed (and therefore became snappy )at the meet so that would suit her i think
