  1. Poor Ripley . RIP Ripley you little angel. ;) for you . Have no words to offer. You must still be in shock. SO sorry for your loss.
  2. Deltron hope that you find out exactly what the bite was from. It must be very frustrating, the not knowing.
  3. Deltron so sorry for you. Hope all is ok. We have had our cat survive a snake bite ( he was nearly dead) . He lived for about another 4 years. Nearly 12 months ago we lost Bandit. She was a Kelpie x Lab who we think had been bitten about 15 mins before we found her, unable to walk and paralysed. She was my dog, but lived out on the farm with my parents. It was a stinking hot day and I put her in the car with the air con on to keep her cool. She had no use of her legs and was limp. I literally flew in to town. She was 12 years old, but very active and fit. Well she survived it with one shot of antivene. Sadly 2 weeks later she was found dead in her kennel. She developed a heart murmur when bitten and when recovered it disappeared. Vet thinks it was probably a heart attack that killed her. It was alot in a old dog. We were so sad, but she DID susrvive the bite. If she had been younger I think it all would've been good for her. The vet told us that normally about half an hour after being bitten they look like they are recovering, then they recrash and are too far gone to save. We were so lucky to have got in at the rigt time. Plus vet had also said that red bellied black snakes do more damage and are worse than a brown snake bite in recovery. Bandit stayed overnight and came home the next morning.
  4. I used to find walking my 2 a nightmare. Sam is a puller, even with a check chain. When we got Rex, well he is just happy to be with her. He is great to walk. Walking with 2 leads and 2 kids on bikes has just been a disaster So I decided to try a split lead, if thats what its called Its a v shape that goes to each dog and attaches with one lead. It works great for us. It has seemed to slow Sam up for whatever reason and Rex is just happy to plod along. I know that you have to be careful in the lengths of the split lead as if its too long the dogs get tangled. Mine don't get tangled and we have practised in the yard before test running it Much more manageable.
  5. Yes, I think you should be ok On another note. I do know that Plumbers tape WILL NOT go through and ends up costing approx $800.00 with a dog alive at the end ( well he almost died )
  6. That is awful for poor Kaiser Where were her parents? Have you got any friends with kids that could come over to your place to see him? That may help. My parents Silky - who was originally mine. He had also had a few bad experiences with kids, so never liked them. He was 5 when my daughter was born and we never left them alone. Over the years he has gotten so used to my 2 kids that he just adores them. So don't fret too much, just try to get him positive experiences with "nice" kids. You need to be super vigilant if you take him out and don't let him leave your side.
  7. Thanks Erny. My Dad is nearly 70 and IMO think it would just be too much for him. I had a talk to him yesterday about training him on lead just once a day. So will see. I took Baz out on the farm yesterday (without the other dogs) with a lead on. Just reinforcing , sit, stop and come. He was alot better in the afternoon. Coming more when called and really just listening if I growled at him to leave Sam alone. So maybe I need to do lead time with him twice a week and see if it helps.
  8. Hi all, I have posted about Baz the Kelpie before. He is my Dads dog ( 9 months) and i see him bout twice a week. He has a annoying habit that I would love to break. When he sees us ,either at my place or his , he just chases Sam and looks to her, like he is fixated on her. He nips at her and just annoys the crap out of her. She will eventually just go off at him and he will back off very temporarily. Sam is my 8 yr old Lab. He doesn't do this with Rex my 18 month old Retriever. He will go off and play with Rex, but when they are not playing he is on Sam constantlyagain. How can I stop this behaviour? When i was driving down the paddock he ran sraight in front of the car to Sam. He does not listen and will NOT come when he is called. My 2 will, he will just ignore.
  9. Ok thanks for the input :D Much appreciated.
  10. I would love some input. I am joining an obedience club in 2 weeks and am going to take my 17 month old Golden Retriever. I really think my Dad's kelpie needs to go too. I want to know if it will be any use to take him as he is not my dog. I do see him once/twice a week. He is about 8 months old.
  11. Congratulations on getting Harry Am glas things are going well for you It really depends opn the personality of the dog...so you got lucky!
  12. My Rex used to be really bad in the car, dribbling everywhere. If he even thought he was going in the car he would start to dribble. He is now 17 months old and is fine. He hasn't dribbled for a few months, so I think he has just outgrown It is probably a anxiety or feeling car sick that makes him dribble. If you are really worried get him checked out by a vet. My vet had said that they normally grow out of it. It has happened in our case and Rex even jumps in the back of the car all excited to go out now
  13. No there is nothing in Young. I have since found out about a club in Bathurst and have posted info in a post about dog obedience Central West
  14. Just thought I would update what I have found out. Apparently Orange in NSW doesn't do obedience anymore there is only obedience in Bathurst. The phone number is 0263324520 Mrs Pat Sherman. The new intakes are on the first Saturday of every month. Lesson starts at 9 am every Saturday morning and you have to be there to have your dog vetted between 8:30 and 8:50am Hope this helps if anyone is interested. I am hoping to start at next months enrollments and if I can get some extras in the car it may save on fuel as I have to travel over an hour to get there.
  15. Thanks for your reply. I hadn't thought to ring the vet. I live 45 mins away from Young and someone was telling me that they thought Young had obedience. They didn't have any more info tho. It is such a shame that there is nothing in town. Our vet has said that they are constantly asked about obedience.
  16. Does anyone know if there is dog obedience in Young NSW? Any info would be appreciated.
  17. I was wondering if someone can help me. I really want to do something with my 12 month old retriever in the way of agility, obedience , even flyball. The problem is that I live in the central west of NSW ( Cowra ) and there is nothing in my town except puppy classes. Does anyone know of any clubs in surrounding districts? I don't mind if we have to travel.
  18. I agree, he would do really at obedience. The only problem is where we live there is nothing. When my now 8 yr old dog was a puppy they had a puppy preschool. We used to go every week. It was great. So, my goal is to try and see him at least twice a week and keep at my Dad.
  19. We had Baz for a play date with my dogs on Friday. They all love to play together. He was very well behaved, and if he didn't, well I used the suggestions here. He caught on very quickly . So, have been trying to relay it to my dad. Thanks so much to you all! :D I now feel abit better armed with some info to help him!
  20. Thanks so much for the replies. There is lots of good advice. We all use no - so thats one good thing! My worry is that as my Dad is such soft person, I don't want his pup to think he is the top dog. I will look at the links and pass on the info. Will let you know how we are going
