Can I also suggest that you ask your vet to write a script for the tablets and you get them from the pharmacy - it is far cheaper that way - Ive been doing that for years.
-
i am a vet nurse and there is injectable metacam,as well as a suspension.it is contra-indicated for animals with liver, kidney probs.like any medication ,there will always be animals that do have a reaction to a particular drug, sometimes they have underlying health issues which contribute to a reaction.there is no way a dog would be given 50 ml of metacam, they come in 25 ml bottles and it is expensive. yes we established I was behind the eight ball on page 3 Sounds like this poster has a beef with a particular vet clinic and is trying to create problems for them.
-
Ummm...... been around for the 10 years I've been administering it. :D Oh well obviously my vets are behind the times and I with them. To quote Buffy "my bad" :D
-
Not that it means much but I had never heard of injectable metacam before today. So its new on the market for me
-
it should have been a 5ml dose not a 50ml dose if I am reading that correctly, which I well may not be
-
So you aren't talking about the commercially available metacam but a brand new drug out on the market which is an injectable form of the stuff (yay - I know how to google too...) http://www.bi-vetmedica.com/product_sites/.../reference.html - that is the info that would be with the drug. Sounds like your dog might have been overdosed. Or as others have said, it could have been another drug
-
1. You don't inject metacam - it is an oral suspension 2. 50ml of the stuff would drop a horse let alone a dog ETA: The stuff comes with a syringe which is kg based. so a 50 on that would be for a 50kg dog not 50ml of the stuff

Aside from the fact it takes ages and ages to get the dosage just right once you sort the thyroid problem the dog can get on with their normal lives. It is NOT a death sentence. They do keep losing hair but not as much as your dog would be now. We were on 1400mg daily - which is a high dose, but lately we have been able to bring it back to 800mg a day - don't ask me why lol. Basically your dogs thyroid is not functioning and the tablets will do the same job it does.

Soy Milk And Other Vegetarian Alternatives Ok?
HeartandSoul replied to Emma Dee's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Royal Canin make a vegeterian dry food that you can access through vets If its within your beliefs you can also feed potato and fish diets -
If you are saying that you may find you are desatisfied with the infin8 as it is really just a martingale with a head strap (which exerts pressure when you tighten the martingale or when the dog pulls). What about a Gentle Leader? Same principle as a halti but fixes to the face. Or just go out and get another halti but oops looks like you have come up with the solution yourself

You need to get your pup used to having his feet handled. Lots of treats and no nail clippers. Just picking up feet and squeeezing them a little and then separating the toes - all of this over time of course. Once you can handle your pups paws without an issue bring in the clippers and start again. Eventually you will have a dog that doesn't care if their feet are handled. This isn't about coddling your dog but about building up positive associations

They are a martingale collar with a figure 8 face strap. If your sole issue is that they are pulling and you are injured have you considered the blackdog greyhound collars? They are a martingale with a wider collar. If you asked blackdog they might even make you an infin8 with a greyhound collar instead of a standard martingale. I have used the infin8 on various sized dogs (as you get with rescue) and have never had a problem.

So very sorry to hear that. RIP

Dry Sore Nose - What Could It Be?

papaw ointment would be the way to go - a lot less likely to cause problems than other things -
get yourself an i-click - makes clicking much easier and you can click with almost any body part
-
I trained a dog in the traditional way. I had an obedient, well mannered animal. I switched to clicker training and I have an obedient well mannered happy companion. Clicker training changed me more than it changed my dog

I gave my dogs eukanuba and had the same reaction in all of them - the food simply didnt agree with them. If you think its the cause, switch them off it and give them some Hills Sensitive stomach canned food. It is essentially chicken and rice and ironically cheaper than doing it yourself. Its not a long term food, its just a good stomach settler

Ive had two dogs go through this - one lived a good while after and another is still around - however, one had a stroke and the other had vestibular disorde - very similar. http://www.petalia.com.au/templates/storyt...ry_no=1872#ct-3 Alternative therapies are excellent but will only go so far. You need to think physio (which I dont really consider alternative) and time. Cortisone should help a little but it really is about giving time.
