Groomers - How Do You Handle This Situation?
Colliewood replied to Colliewood's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think this guy is getting a bit of an attitude as he is now an adult. All be it not entire. He is very much treated like a baby and It would not suprise me if the owners give up the moment he objects. (not the thing to do). I have been grooming him every month for 2 years. He is in great condition I wish everyone looked after these guys the same way. I think he is just getting a bit cocky or something has happened around his back end at some point. Also, I know it is really hard to read between the lines when someone types up something on here. I take great pride in the way my dogs are looked after and they are all treated like my own. (thats why it is so hard to get someone to work for me lol) In saying that I won't take crap from them either. You can usually tell the ones that get away with giving it to their owners. They are just like kids, they try it on their parents and know they won't get away with it on us. (although some will try and i know one day I might come off second best lol) -
Groomers - How Do You Handle This Situation?

I agree with you that it may be a problem next time. However when this happened in an instant, how is it possible to predict every possibilty. If we could do this for everything in life it would be a perfect world. And the muzzle was removed straight away, there is no way I would let the dog become more stressed. I take great care in all of my dogs and am happy to accept when I did the wrong thing. That is not the issue. The question is where does the fine line lie? -
Hi, Just wondering how/what other groomers do in similar situations. Do you disclaimers etc??? I clipped a SWF the other day. He has been getting a bit on the narky side lately. (He is about 2.5 years old and desexed) I go there monthly and over the last few months he has not liked having his bum done. (no injury to the area that I am aware of) So the other day I did the usual and firmly said no etc and he began to up the anti a little so I was not in the mood for him and put a muzzle on him. Well did he throw a tanti!!!! That's ok I can handle that, they can do that as long as they like and I don't care. The problem was whilst throwing this tanti and trying to get the muzzle off he ripped both dew claws and both bled all over the joint.!!!!! Firstly, I will always be honest and tell the client what happened. Even once when I nicked another SWF with scissors (completely my fault) and I covered the vet bills (surgery and all). This time it was one of those things that happen. My question is what do you have in place for something like this? Do you have disclaimers etc???
-
If it is claws, then yes speak to the vet and get advice on having them removed. I know plenty of dogs with out them and all is well. I am not sure if there is a reason to keep them, others may know and opinions will surely vary. good luck.

Yes you can wash weekly providing a good quality shampoo. Aloveen or the like. Something PH balanced for dogs. A human product is not great as dogs have a different PH level to us and it is more likely to strip the oils.

Pet Insurance Australia - Anyone Have It?
Colliewood replied to chichihuahua's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Be very careful thinking ALL other conditions would be covered. Not always the case. For one exclusion can come others you may not think would be related. My dog had one "minor" bout of conjunctivits (vets dx) 6 months prior to me joining. With that exclusion came Facial abscesses, eye disorders, mouth /oral disorders !!!!! Understand what you are paying for and make a decision on that. -
Sorry, it was a 7F been a long day!!!
-
What size was it and what did you pay? I paid 69.95 at a pet store (no livestock) of all places. I was desperate, I am hopeless at getting by blades sharpened and always leave it too late.

I have to say I have had a couple of issues with some new Osters of late. They will not go onto the clipper properly. (Wahl KM2) I have no idea if this is a problem others are having I recently bought a Wahl competition series and it is pretty good. Nearly had a heart attack at the price but I needed it and so far it has given rather nice finishes.

Not ALL mobiles I always bush first, tidy up and trim if required, check for knots behind ears and in the legs and anywhere else. Wash and dry the dog. Finish with a comb or brush. I am very much aware of the hair knotting from the drier and manage accordingly. I clean ears, tidy up pads etc, use good product. I have my standards that I would require if I were paying for the job and am nationally accredited with distinctions (never got a distinction in 11 years at school lol). Whilst I admit there are plenty of cowboy operators, there are those of us that do it right.

Tiggy, you MAY find they will not cover you for anything like this on either leg now. Something about bilateral blah blah blah!!! Check it out very carefully. -
Boiled chicken or bbq'd (no skin) and rice small amounts always works well for mine when they were unwell. (under vets instructions)

Can You Reccomend A Groomer Please
Colliewood replied to joanne76's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Jo, Without intending to be critical or the like. But clipping a BC is not ideal for a number of reasons, Sun exposure, the hair can grow back thicker and harder making the dog even hotter and the coat harder to manage. The overall best option is to keep the dog brushed out as much as possible but not stripping the coat away and knot / matt free, this will allow the air to flow through the coat. Just my 2 cents worth. -
I have a mobile business BUT I know if I were at home there is no way I would let dogs play. I am responsible for their well being and some dogs simply should not play together and those that can should be supervised. Is she a trainer? even if not she should know better.

The reason I went out on my own was to make sure I did it my way. I did look at ap, but knew I could do it better. There are some of us that do the right thing
-
What can happen with some coats is IF the nozzle or concentrator was used during drying it can sometimes cause the coat to knott up on itself. Therefore using the nozzle is not advisable. I am only guessing here.

Hope he is on the mend soon.

Poor baby, hope things are better tomorrow.

If you feed tinned food chances are you will have a dog that will poo ALOT more volume and more frequently. This means the dog is not getting the nutirents from the food it needs. It will stink to high heaven probably as well. You can measure if a dog is doing well on food by their output. Smaller, less smelling, nice looking poo's are what you need. Not large, loose smelly blobs. I have not fed tinned food for over 10 years and will never go back to it. In an ideal world raw is best but if time is a factor a good quality dry will be better than tinned. cheers

I cannot understand this! Just plain stupid. I would be so upset if something happened to a dog in my care. At least it is there should I need it.
