  1. Wondering if someone can give me some information about this club - when can one enrol their dog, how long does the lessons go for & price. Greatly appreciate any & all info - many thanks
  2. Agree, although Id call it down right cruel - if one could only ask the dog where he'd rather be ;)
  3. Have decided to post this collage of growth photos here as there was some confusion recently, in regards to a dog needing pound rescue & whether he was pure bred. This gives an idea of an Irish Wolfhound's growth, from an early age .
  4. My sincere sympathy on your loss - I think a very good many of us have been in similar situations. When one thinks about our beloved friends who had to leave us, a hard lump appears in the throat again and the tears flow. After I farewelled a much loved mate, many years ago now - a dear friend sent me this poem - "Just a darkness away" I'm on my own now tonight, for the very first time in my life I feel a force, stronger than you a constant calling of my name. It's the first few steps you know, like learning to walk all over again and don't follow me here Ma, this soil is too light for heavy words I've given all that I can, there's nothing more that I can do now, your hearthound has to go towards that bridge and beyond over the colours and then I was running above the darkness running beneath the stars running towards a light warmer than your hands, Ma brighter than your smile, Pa and now I sit here surrounded by eternity Oh no, no, please don't cry I have company you all know who, they are here So. don't worry, Pa and don't feel sad, Ma just a darkness away there is me By Dirk Montery, Belgium - 1998
  5. I see some of you listed Irish Wolfhounds in your choice in breeds - are you sure about that Well at least they can save you some $$$ by not seeing the catalogue specials
  6. Good to hear two of the larger "Scruffy" hounds went through to GS :D
  7. As a breeder, here's my two bobs worth...... There are many a "strange one" out in that world of ours and sometimes people do not show their true colours until "s*** hits the fan" so to speak....and with this person, I personally would do the following.. Your fault or not, just reimburse this person the full amount of the puppy... Very likely this puppy died of something else unrelated to the illness of your litter but you may never likely know. I would send the dead pup's rego papers back to Dogs Vic....do not supply even a copy of the pup's rego papers to this person. Tell him you're very sorry for his loss (be nice & always polite) but mention as the pup has died, the papers MUST be send back to Dogs Vic (rules & reg's)...lastly, mention his sentence "I know where you live" in that you considered it to be a threat and have made mention about it to friends & the police. Sometimes it is best just to "end" situations fast & count your losses rather than drag things on which could make your life hell. Good luck
  8. She's certainly a lovely girl but no IW in her I feel. I would say she is a Bearded Collie cross - her size & overall type & coat resemble them to me. Below is what an IW female looks like...similar in colour but not in size. I bet she is very smart...her eyes are just gorgeous - full of love
  9. Could someone tell me who won BIG & RUBIG in the Hound Group at these shows. Thanks greatly

thats terrible. Any microchip? Surely there are so few litters in Ausralia that you should be easlily work out who the breeder is by his age etc? and return him safely. The breeder is in Victoria, they did not want him back nor offered any help towards him. Here in Oz, Farlap, we have very few good registered breeders that health check, show etc. Sadly there are some BYB's (backyard breeders) who have got hold of a dog & bitch & then just bred them, selling pups to whoever wants them....$$$ on their mind. If you read Centitiout's last post, she was discussing the best way of stopping this from a breeders point of view by speying very early or refunding the vets spey fee at a latter time when the pup is older (6mths+ etc). Sadly, even if someone just wants a pet, I think the only way to really "guarantee" your pups/lines are not a part of some BYB's production plan, is to spey at 10-12 weeks old, before they leave your property... YES, extremely young & early and has its downfalls, BUT really the only guarantee. The refundable vet spey fee does work well with the "honest people" but for the one's whom plan to have litters, they know they can make the $$$ back when they breed their litters. Bloodhounds are NOT the only breed that have this BYB problem here, my own breed is also one that is regarded as "hunting hounds" and thus are wanted by hunter's to be bred either together or mixed with their other hunting dogs.

You did the right thing Centitout. Such a shame it turned out this way but he is in a much better place now. As Id said before, pity you & onsntillnflash had to go to all that trouble/expence picking him up etc when the ranger could/SHOULD have assessed the dog properly. Re breeding, sadly I think the only real way of one not having their lines/stock being bred from by BYB's is to spey early, before leaving the breeder. Something many of us are not keen on due to the surveys but better that really, than knowing a pup from you helped produce many a "Spanner".. Think we have all been caught out by what we thought were genuine puppy people, even after checking them out thorougly, however things can still happen change for the worst. Sadly, BYB's will always be there, someone will always sell a pup with $$ in mind....at least one can sleep better at night if they desex their pets, knowing that its not from any of their breeding. Good luck folks
  13. So can someone tell me who won the overall competition ? Many thanks

Popped in to see if there was any news on the Scone boy... Centitout, so sorry to hear the boy is in such a dreadful state....when I first talked to the ranger there, he said the dog had a happy temperament and was in good 'nic'.....maybe these people need "vetting" first before they assess a dog that comes into their care ! This was a dog the local newspaper was advertising for a good home too...just unreal Sounds like you certainly didn't pick up the dog that was described to me Im sorry to hear all this but if the dog is not good with people then seriously, there is only one decision for him. Trust me in saying we know what a "nasty" Bloodhound is like and have proof of what a Bloodhound can do (meaning photos I have of my OH's face after surgery)..... and it was an unprovoked attack. OH is permanently scar'd now. This was NOT one of our own hounds or their lineage by the way, but they can make a mess of one's face in a single aggro bite. Personally, I know you help many a rescue hound BUT I would not spend a ton of $$$ on this dog to see what else is wrong & then try to hand him on with an risky nature like this. I know I sound hard but facts are facts...if he were trusting & sweet then he's worth all the trouble...if not, a place of peace is best for him where no one else can treat him unkindly nor he continue in a life he is so untrusting of now. Good luck !!! PS..glad Hudson is doing well

I have just been made aware of a male Bloodhound whom is currently in Scone NSW Dog Pound. I am unsure if he is entire or neutered. He is approx 4 years old. He is microchipped but transfer from his Victorian breeder was never done & he has apparently be rehomed a few times from the original owner who purchased him from the breeder. He is said to have a happy friendly nature. Due to health reasons I am unable to help this poor boy but anyone who is interested and can help him, please call Geoff at Scone Dog Pound on 0428401102. Sadly they can not keep him there for too long - hope someone can help him. Many thanks Kim (posting in rescue forum also)
  21. Many thanks Nicolatu, Caseykay & especially Dancinbcs.... I do appreciate your replies and the information... was just always curious about the other colours. As a breeder myself (not of BC's of course) I was interested to know when the other colours began to appear in the breed here in Oz and what colours were allowable to be bred with each other. I certainly realise that breeding just for colour alone does not produce quality dogs. The BC is a beautiful breed and so intelligent and I wish you all the very best with your dogs & in your future plans. Thanks again
  22. If you mean Braidwood..it was our friends/co-owners..they had 2 Wolfhounds there.
