Updating the photo collage after recently receiving an email for an IW pound rescue in which the dog appeared to be more a Terrier than IW.

Saw this thread earlier this morning but couldn't rack up the courage to read it until now. RIP poor abandoned dog If there is Karma, may Karma serve those who deserve it !

Desexed Male Living With Non Desexed Bitch
Beauie replied to Rileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I guess they are all different - have a desexed ex stud dog & 3 bitches whom have seasons. Since his desexing, he hasn't bothered to even try mating any of them and is with them all the time, no problems at all. Good luck with things Riley's mum -
Being an ex Bloodhound breeder/owner - the dog is a great example of the breed and had done a lot of winning in the USA. Im pretty sure they would have used great examples of all the breeds in the movie.

Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis Disease (hge)
Beauie replied to britt3's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes, I lost a beloved hound to this hiddeous disease back in 2007 and she never had any symptoms previously. I found her dead on her lounge - she had bleed out during the night - not a single sound from her - PM diagnosed HGE. How, why - questions I will always have as she had been so healthy. -
Dogs Nsw,is It About Time They Owned Their Own Ground
Beauie replied to klink's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, they should own their own grounds - they had the option donkey's years ago when there was land available at Badgerys Creek (this was before they went to Erskine Park) but they didn't take it, instead, the funds left from darling ol' Bill Spilstead's will were used to "lease" the grounds at Erko Park for 99 years.(If I remember correctly) Something I shall never understand ... why lease when they could have bought. Then I always wondered, after building on the property and up grading it to what it is today, what happens after the 99 years ? Is all lost ? Id guess yes. I do hope, maybe the grounds can be bought or a lifetime lease can be established. Ive never read or heard that there is only 15 years left on the lease but then I don't read every journal nowadays. Just seems such a grand waste of $$. -
Well, I think those that went are as mad as hatters We were curled up with a nice warm blankie, on the lounge, watching a good flick with all our dry, happy, sleeping hounds around us - that is what one should do on a horrendous day like yesterday me thinks ;)
-
Thanks Larrikin - have ordered them already - got them around the same price from a more local company. Always good to have a few good links though ;)

Not entered but was going to pop over - NOT now - teaming rain up this neck of the woods, pretty much non stop since very early hours of the morning. Good luck to anyone deciding to go - this weather & show is truly for the real die-hards - very unfortunate for the Club.

Many thanks for your posts Sheena & MEH - shall try work out which would be cheapest to buy.
-
Just wondering where most of you buy your Pigs Ears ? Prefer to buy in bulk (carton of 100) but can't get them from the supplier I use too at the good price. Any & all suggestions much appreciated - thanks !

Not if both of us turn up Beauie. One of us will have to loose. Well Keshwar, there are 7 classes and 5 in show wins to be made - so I figure we can all still win something :D Good luck this weekend at Cowra ;)
-
I heard of a recent show in QLD where the hound group was 6 yup 6. I think the whole show entry was around 20. Ok you win ... NAH NAH NAH - we all might win if we go there

Thanks everyone for your replies and a big congrat's to Wilbur on his BIS win. I am VERY surprised at the entry (of 59) at the HVHC, especially when another All Breeds show was on in the morning & the next day, at the same venue. Is it me or am I seeing a HUGE decline in entries each year for the Hound Club shows ? Why is this ? The Sighthound Club of NSW will/should always get good entries as their show is held the Easter weekend, which sees many Breed Specialties on, which draw many interstate entries too - so not surprised at that. Way back in 2004, we won RUBIS at the NSW Hound Club & there were 279 odd entries and another of ours won RUBIS at the 2007 Hunter Valley Hound Club show, over 100 entries at that one. We weren't entered in either show this year but sadly it seems the entries are really & truly dropping off nowadays. Ive had a sneak peak in the Journal & can't see any other show or circuit of shows that looked more enticing. Pretty sad for all the Hounds if entries continue to drop like this.

Found the poll VERY interesting and also NOT surprising. Sorry, but politics is rife out there in the rings, always the usual suspects and no one will change my mind. I am not talking about my own breed here either but when you get to a show & know who's got the Group & most of the classes etc before even entering the ring, then you feel you are there to just make up the line-up and numbers. Just put a post in this show ring forum as Id heard a recent show only had a very small number of entries - if true, I was rather taken back. Likely small entries are people saying "hey, enough already" why bother entering if there isn't even a half "dangle of the carrot". And before most of you aim your guns at me - Ive been around for 30 + years and have seen a lot - no wonder the passion is dying. Sure, most winners are quality dogs and deserve their wins but some on the day don't and this is where I feel the problem lays - judges know the big winners and should judge on the day but do they really ?.....Or do they judge on " past history & knowledge " ? We don't show half as much anymore and to be honest, we don't miss it - but I think, if this sport is to survive, then things have to change and it's not the exhibitors or getting better dogs. Off my box now - happy showing to those whom still enjoy it.
-
Spoke to a friend last night whom told me there were only 55 odd entries at the above mentioned show, that was held last weekend at Hillsborough showgrounds - can someone who attended please confirm this for me ? If true, this is very sad as the club use to pull a relatively good amount of entries. I hear they had a NZ judge also
-
Many thanks Megz

And while on the shaggy dogs, why not the Irish Wolfhounds too. Poor Megz, everyone who is not going to the show wants to see who's entered in their breeds - you'll be typing up the whole damn catalogue soon I can wait to be honest and see the results on the Sydney Royal Website after 5pm on Tuesday
-
Would anyone have Group 4 results for all theweekend shows please ?
-
Yay for my boy!! But they catalogued his owner details wrong - should be Ackland & Mistraka Kennels. They have apologised and amended challenge cert etc. FANTASTIC Alyosha - may you fly high on cloud nine for a long time
