Congrat's Pirate. How old is your Pointer? I've just started to train my young pointer puppy, he is 4 1/2 months old and seems to be taking to tracking much faster than my Great Dane did LOL. Finding the time to run some short tracks with him is my problem atm. I love the idea of a scratchie!! RubyBlue you are very generous See you end of July hopefully

A question for you trackers! How much is too much when it comes to a 'gift' for the tracklayer? My thoughts are that the 'gift' should be equivalent to the tracking test - so for a Test 1 or 2 a bar of chocolate (easy to pick a favourite as it's a known tracklayer!). As you progress through the tests and your tracklayer has to walk further and sit out in the cold longer, I think the 'gift' should be a little better - if that makes sense? For me a family sized block of chocolate for a test 3 is waaaay too generous (but it was shared around & much enjoyed ;) so thank you!!) What are everyone's thoughts? Personally, I love a muslei bar instead of chocolate LOL. Once I was given a small puzzle toy and a chump-a-chump lolly - I laid 6 tracks that weekend, so it was a pleasant change from so much chocolate!!

Hi jcandari - was great to meet you and your husband, and of course the dogs! Excellent result to get a pass on your first outing in Tracking - well done! Hopefully will see you again soon, either at a dog show or a tracking trial!! You should enter Ballarat at the end of July as it's also held around the Haddon grounds. I'm stewarding / tracklaying - so will be there all three days of the trial. Awesome RubyBlue! I wished I could have stewarded on Milly's track so I could watch her work. From the feedback I heard, she is a great little tracker. At least I can take a small partial credit by being a smelly tracklayer for her Test 3 LOL. Fantastic achievement to get her Tests 1, 2 & 3 in a row, with no fails. Good luck for her test 4 :-) Will see you on Saturday, it should be a good day - hopefully the weather will be kind. The GSD trial was a successful one for all of us - my Great Dane Oscar passed his Test 2 with a grading of good :D

Hi Put Test 2 for both trials. If/When you get a pass at Hastings, ring the Secretary of the GSD club straight away and ask that your test be upgraded from a Test 2 to a Test 3. Both tests are 800m, so it's not difficult for the club to accomodate the change - it's just important to notify the Secretary as soon as you can. Might see you in a few weeks then! Hi RubyBlue It was good to meet you too. So excited for you that you passed! I've been a tracklayer down that embankment, so I know what it's like! and don't feel bad as one of the judges at a trial last year broke her leg falling down the very same embankment I think. I hope to be at the GSD trial - well that's what I'm working towards. John will kill me if I scratch my dog again, so if we're on the same day, you'll meet Oscar.

Hi RubyBlue I'll be up at Haddon all weekend - so come and say Hi! My names Kirsten and I have a Great Dane called Oscar. We'll be doing Test 2, but I'm also helping out stewarding & tracklaying. I did Test 1 at the end of last year and was very nervous. Just remember it's only 400m and 2 turns. Seems like a lot - but it's not really. Although we always want our dogs to indicate an article, you don't have to indicate on a Test 1 to get a pass. I'm not nervous... yet... LOL but I'm not expecting a pass, and it's only the beginning of the season - so lots of trials to come. What breed of dog do you have?
