Coolies can compete in QLD. If they are desexed on the Associate register. If they are entire and registered with another registry they are eligible for the Sporting register. The old days of Qld people with cross breeds not being able to compete is over.

Volhard Puppy Aptitude testing is carried out at 7 weeks See here: http://www.volhard.com/puppy/pat.htm Having recently had a fairly high drive litter in terms of performance on both sides of the pedigree, I dont agree that the pups were always busy and thus were high drive. My litter were exceptionally laid back and were busy when things were offered to them to be busy with. They all had a natural settle and still at 4 months can settle and relax and will wait till they are asked to be busy. 5 of these pups are in performance homes where they are expected to perform at the highest levels there new owners can achieve. All are well aware that a dog with a high drive also needs an "off switch" and these pups have that. In discussion with working/herding owners and breeders they dont want a pup that can not settle and has to be busy all the time. They are looking for a dog that can think and will be calm.

C and Z It is pretty late to be taping Zorros ears. Given he is pretty close to having finished teething. Accept him and love him for what he is a loved and adored pet. Most people have BC's with quirky ears in there breeding programmes. It is because people tape ears that we never know what we are going to get in the next generation.

Gamby Ask Yildiz about my boy Zac and what fun we had trying to get him his CD. Btw how did she do yesterday?

Personally i would take him to see a chiro or muscle manipulator. Sounds like he has done some damage to himself from the fall. I have had dogs who have had major falls and shown some nasty symptoms including urination and tremors etc. Treated by a vet/chiro and back to normal after manipulation and some crate rest. I dont know where you are so cant reccomend anyone to you. But there are some real good vet/chiros around in most state capitals and in some country areas.

Have used Rescue Remedy as well. Also Be Kalm and a whole heap of other supposed calmers. Have also used Valerian. Calm Water works as it is natural bush essences from OZ. Rescue Remedy works on some dogs. Calm water works on some dogs ( i have seen it work on humans as well Hehe) Valerian works on some dogs. I guess the thing is you have to try and see if it works for you and your dog. I would still dry all the above on any dog to see which gives me the greater calming effect in the situation that is needed. Other i know try Evening Primrose Oil and Mega Multi B's . As i said each dog is different and you have to find what works best for them

Sure have!! It works. Best results are to give as the only water the night before and then as the only water during the day. We use it for show dogs who get a bit antsy and has helped drastically

Best Brush For This Type Of Fur?
wylie replied to Gwinganna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What you have there is a slicker brush which is the best thing for poodle coats. They come in a variety of types from ultra soft thru to hard. Maybe you need to get one that is a bit softer until her adult coat comes through properly -
He wont be the first puppy or the last puppy that has had a so called accident. Friend had a pup returned to her at 9 months old with a fractured skull and temperament issues!! Was told he was aggressive to kids. He is now a 7 year old gentle giant who I took on and resocialised at 5 1/2 with men in particular. He now seeks out guys for attention. He was also able to be shown again and gained his PT title as well. I also had a pup returned with severe issues. PM Mystiqview about her boy. Terrified of men and raised hands and voices at 5 1/2 months. 14 months later so much better but still displays timidity around men. He was returned so skinny you could poke your fingers through his ribs and spine. Personally I wouldnt bother asking how as the real reason will never come out. With the old boy we were told all sorts of reasons as to how he had a fractured skull. And the owner took no responsibility for it at all. Tell your friend to leave it alone and get on with the healing process with her puppy and resocialise it when she feels the time is right. The more love he gets now the better as it is only time that will really heal him.

Check the Qld Dog Journal. They are advertised in there on a regular basis. The next one is in October and then another in November. Suzie who takes all the details takes last minute requests as one of my girls was booked in on Saturday for DNA testing on Sunday.

I am sure every breeder on DOL makes sure there pups are bathed at 8 weeks before they go to there new homes. I do at least. Loved the comments on the weekend from new owners about how clean and white and how pretty they smelt.

Cavandra You are more than correct about Lynda being a Poodle breeder. When she was having issues with bad coats and itchy skin on one of her poodles is when she found "Groomers". She is the most brilliant person to talk to about coats in general not just on poodles. I am looking forward to my 8 days with her as I am heading off down to Melbourne to help out on her van for the Royal. All that wonderful information and knowledge (at least some of it I hope) will then come my way so that it can be used to promote the Groomers range more effectively up here in QLd and Northern NSW. I love the stuff and after my Papillon had her coat stripped, broken hair and as dry as all get after being washed in Napisan ( by a helpful friend) it is only because of the products in the Groomers range were we able to get her coat back to a point where she could be shown again and not look like she had the damage that she had.

Groomers Royal Jelly Shampoo does work in helping to grow coat as the Royal Jelly feeds the hair shaft. The other thing to remember that a clean coat and well brushed and maintained coat is a coat that is more able to grow more quickly as there is no dirt and old coat to impede new coat growth.

My very first litter my bitch was training on a regular basis for both tracking and obedience. We went to a tracking weekend when she was 7 weeks along. She tracked like a dream all day for the three days we were away. She wanted to track. She was given ample oppurtunity to rest or not track. She was actually worse when i had my young boy out barking and carrying on as she was being left out. No one believed she was 7 weeks along. She whelped naturally and easily. Vet said it was because she was so fit and healthy at the time. I think each bitch is an individual. Some will want to work and participate and others will want to be even bigger couch potatoes. I also know of 2 other bitches that were herding at 6 weeks. Both doing multiple runs a day in HSAsd and HSBSd with some passes. Both whelped naturally and with ease. One had 11 puppies and the other 8 puppies. I think that we all know our bitches and know when to ease off. Think about human athletes many continue on with training but taper it down slowly the further along they get. They dont lose a lot of condition and then return to there chosen arena not having lost huge amounts of training time and are able to get back to where they left off quickly and with seemingly little extra effort.

Mine love those little packets of Colby and Gouda you can get. Mind you even plastic cheese works for them.

I have just spoken to my vet in regards to umbilical hernias and she stated that the new thinking on them was to keep a watch on them for 6 months as most are now believed to heal themselves. If it appears that a piece of fat is poking out and is strangulating then surgery is the only option.

Jeanne I am not quite sure what you are trying to describe. A picture explains a lot of things if you can capture it. He may be out at elbow, he may have an east west front, it could be nutritional, it could be developmental and it could just be his construction. Owning a pap i see lots of paps who have strange fronts in the show ring. His legs should drop straight down when he is stacked in a standing position. By the way pictures are also expected in the papillon/phalene thread for others with paps to admire.

My Sheltie Has Got Real Pale Gums
wylie replied to Owned by Shelties's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi I would be taking her to the vet. She obviously hasnt fully recovered and may be heading for a relapse. Chicken wings are not a complete diet for a dog! She should be getting offal and red meat as well. Wings have far to much bone in them. You would be better off cutting up a whole chicken and feeding that to her over the space of her meals. Make sure that the kidneys and liver and other bits are in there as well. Try lamb heart as well. It is a good source of iron. Has she been wormed recently and if so what with? Good thoughts in the meantime -
Goldengirl Mystiqviews underlay is for a Bed. In regards to dry bed you can get it in Melb from www.groomersproducts.com Lynda will send it out at whatever size you want. Have fun and enjoy your new addition

My puppies always sleep in a crate in the bedroom. Easier to access them when they need to go out in the middle of the night. My other crew still sleep wherever they want in the bedroom. On the bed, under the bed, beside the bed. Pup gets used to the crate and being locked up and cant get into mischief. My new baby girl who is 10 weeks old goes pretty willingly into her crate at night. Everyone then goes up and sniffs her crate and says goodnight and then she goes to sleep.

Hi Rubens Mum Welcome to the world of the super intelligent Papillon. The Papillon and Phalene people have there own thread so make sure you post a pic of Ruben in there for us all to see. I own a Papillon and many of the things you have talked about she does and i have had her since she was 8 weeks old. She has never been abused in any manner but she knows when to push buttone. Dream will squeak if you pick her up, i ensure that she is picked up with 2 hands, one under her chest and the other under her back legs. She will still squeak occassionally but its more on the whole cos she doesnt want to be picked up. Dream will bark and whinge and carry on when i leave and when I return. She does not like being left alone. Most Papillons are quite mouthy on the whole. It is hard to get it out of them. Dream does know quiet but she forgets herself sometimes and also likes to have the last word. Socialization is always a huge part of owning a papillon and sounds like your little man has missed out on a bit. I see no problems with using food as a way to get compliance. You could also use a clicker with treats which is a similar way of training. There are lots of good sites on clicker training on the web or you could do a search on DOL as well. Enjoy your little man they are an extremely intelligent social little things who love there people so much and would do anything for a cuddle and a little attention...oops make that a lot of attention.

Daxhound Just remember with the Groomers royal jelly shampoo to double wash with it. If you are going to use the tropical conditioner then you only rinse it out till it is milky. The biggest trick is to make sure that you heat blow dry the coat dry. Good luck
-
hey Wendysdarwin Are you using a product to dampen the coat down before brushing? Are you line brushing? Dampening down the coat and line brushing will both assist you in getting through a thick coat. Try the Groomers, Groom and Detangle Spray and the Evening Primrose Coat Conditioning spray. Having groomed a powderpuff on a regular basis with a gorgeous coat they do help heaps.

Hey Daxhound Lynda at groomers and Janelle at Classic Show Supplies will both freight. www.classicshowsupplies.com.au for Janelle and www.groomersproducts.com.au for Lynda. Royal jelly Shampoo comes in 500ml, 2.5L and 5L containers. Its one of the best products out as far as I am concerned. Just remember to double wash in it and heat blow dry to push the royal jelly into the coat. Cheers
