  1. I ve never heard of a vet giving 2 vaccinations by the time a pup is 8 weeks either. I think you need to check there vaccination certificates to see what they have actually been vaccinated for. And vaccinations need approximately a fortnight to kick in so they should still not be going anywhere unless carried.
  2. If you have ever watched wolves with a kill. They actually shake the contents of the stomach out. So they would actually get very little of the matter that is actually in the stomach of any herbivores that they catch.
  3. FTPO I would have made up a mix of the EPO and water in a spray bottle and washed him in that again and then dried him off with your hair dryer. Some baby powders have perfume added and some dogs can actually be sensitive to that.
  4. its a great training treat!! Cover with garlic powder on both sides. Place in a microwave container. Cook for approx 10 mins then check to see if it is cooked thru. Keep cooking if not 2- 3 mins at a time. Let cool then cut into small cubes. Can be kept in freezer for approx 3 months. Or in fridge in a covered container for a few days. Most dogs go nuts over it.
  5. Sticks and dogs are a big no no!! My old girl had major surgery at 9 months old cos she nearly severed her tongue off with a stick. She was lucky i noticed she had blood in her mouth as there was nothing else to point to a problem at the time. She was taken to the vets where it was discovered how bad it really was. Sticks are banned in this household. They can chew old tiny tyres, large balls and fluffy squeaky toys all they like. Bones galore but definitely no sticks here.
  6. Any food that is minced has a greater chance of becoming bacteria infected because of the greater surface area. It is one of the reasons why even human mince you are told to consume within 24 hours or freeze. Contaminants are greater because of the mincing machine that it would go through as well as those in the air prior to going on sale. Think about it. Sausages and patties are in the same boat as well. Freeze it and thaw prior to feeding is the best option for any minced product.
  7. Pei girl There is actually an EPO spray that should be used in conjunction with the shampoo. Please ring Lynda and talk to her as to her best advice as to what may assist you in solving some of the issues.
  8. FTPO You can get all the groomers products from Classic Show Supplies here in Brisbane. www.classicshowsupplies.com Lynda tho is the best one to speak to in reagards to what she would recommend in terms of what will do the best job.\ Some dogs need to start on Vet grade Shampoo which is 5 % EPO, others are OK on normal EPO. Food Supplement should always be built up from a dribble on a meal addding a little over time till the recommended rate for the size of dog. Please remember that using EPO shampoo correctly will require washing every 3 - 4 days and doing what is called a double wash each time. The product needs to sit on the dogs skin for 5 minutes before being rinsed off and repeating the process. It is not a simple system of wash and rinse. It requires time and effort. Malsam If you read my post I did say it does not work for all dogs. However those that it does work on it works well.
  9. Sas Give Lynda a call she is an amazing wealth of information. I have seen and heard of amazing results not only with the EPO but also with the Royal Jelly products. Lynda originally brought them into the country because one of her poodles reacted to every brand of shampoo she tried. EPO Shampoo and Food Additive does not work for all but works for lots of dogs in getting there skin and metabolism back into decent working order. Lynda is the best one to talk in regards to the products.
  10. FTPO Give Linda a ring. She is an absolute wealth of information and is only to happy to discuss with anyone any issues they may be having and try to come up with a solution that best fits you!
  11. Contact Tracey from Fidelis there is a herding workshop coming up soon with Colin Webster. It is a good introduction to herding and learning to handle your dog and read sheep. Colins method is very gentle on both dogs and sheep.
  12. Hi Tiggy If you have read Lonsdales book then there are plenty of examples in there of whole prey. Things like a whole chicken with innards preferably depending on the siz of the dog, whole rabbits. Meaty meat is the basic concept. Lamb hearts, ox heart etc are considered muscle meats so they are good value. Be careful on too much liver and kidney. Sometimes you can pick up sides of lamb fairly cheaply and they can be good value as well. Pork can also be a good one as well. Meaty Pork ribs not the American ribs. Imagination is your key. Depending on where you live you may be able to pick up meaty lamb flaps, turkey tails etc. Actually whole turkeys are another good option. Whole eggs shell and all are a great protein boost. My guys go hunting for them themselves, they know how to crack them open and devour them.
  13. Do a google on Rimadyl and Adverse reactions. Check to see whether any of the symptoms are similar to hers. Then ring your vet and talk to them!
  14. Jed Delta Charlies Diet is based on the book "Raw Meaty Bones" by Tom Lonsdale an Australian Vet. There is lots of information available through his website as well as the yahoo group Rawfeeding. The only additive many Prey ( or Raw ) feeders would give would be Salmon oil in the diet. Yoghurt is not something that is considered a part of the diet but any other part of an animal is. It is basically about feeding whole prey over a period of time. So a whole rabbit, a whole chicken, a whole pig or a whole cow. Every part is supposed to be a part of the diet. It is interesting that so many feed vegies cos if you have ever watched dogs rip up a carcass they go for the stomach first but the contents are emptied out and then it is eaten. The stomach is gone for as it is soft tissue to break into the carcass to get to the rest of the meat. I feed a modified prey diet and love it. I love hunting for all sorts of different things. People think it is weird how my dogs love hearts and kidneys and any other offal. Mind you they also get turkey tails and emu meat and bones as well. And pigs heads are an ultimate treat here.
  15. Yep!! It works really well.
  16. Sending condolences for Little Fairy. She fought valiantly with you and now joins all the other lost pets beyond the rainbow bridge.
  17. I have been told the same about raw egg yolk but with the addition of glocuse syrup. I used it on a pup that went down and it did pick up drastically and did survive.
  18. One of the ways to start fussy dogs on raw is to quickly fry in a very hot pan on all sides. Do not cook you are simply browning the outside. It should be still totally raw on the inside. Let it cool and then feed. We have started a number of older dogs like this with things like chicken thighs and drumsticks. The browning gets less and less and they get the idea very quickly.
  19. Glad to hear you are enjoying Colins next workshop! Hope all is going well with everyone and that there will be lots of dogs out next year working hard. Can you ask Colin when he is sending Poppy/Cath back to me please.
  20. i have just seen a lovely border collie that has the most amazing hair loss and weeping sore that appeared after she was given the annual heart wormer. Her owner and the vets have no clue and she has been given lots of steroids and other potions in the hope of managing it. She had no idea that it may have been from the shot and will now put her onto a monthly heartwormer once the 12 months is over. Many pet people do not have the resources of those on DOL and would have no clue as vets are on the whole clueless about adverse reactions as well.
  21. Hi mysticpaw, Sorry to hear about Tikaani's adverse reaction. I hope that your vet has reported this to the drug company. There is a myriad of information on DOL about adverse reactions. A good website also to check out is http://www.dogsadversereactions.com/
  22. I am another who likes to feed raw but because puppy pet buyers dont want to go to the so called expense i also feed Pedigree rehydratable. Puppy buyers then get to switch over to a kibble over time for there new baby and i get to switch mine over to how i normally feed.
  23. Some interesting comments ! Having just bred a litter of Border Collies where structure, temperament and performance were all considered it has been interesting hearing about there progress in there new homes now they are 5 1/2 months old. There dam is handicapped by me! I have no clue when it comes to herding and thru anothers efforts she has some herding titles. Sire is obedience and herding titled. Some of the pups have already turned on to sheep and are showing there mothers style with her and the sires biddability. All have foundation work in obedience. One is already doing hospital visits. But the thing that all owners has commented on is there ability to relax and be calm. They are not busy busy puppies as many like to call high drive. Yet when needed to concentrate at whatever they all are quick to learn and continue doing what is asked of them. I look forward to seeing and hearing of there adventures as they grow up but am pleased with what is already being shown. Maybe it was a mating that just clicked and maybe the forethought in to this cross was what has enabled it to work.

    Help Needed!

I suggest you either get some puppy pee pads or use 1 piece of paper that he has piddled on in the new lot of newspaper you put down. Puppies will start to recognise that smell and that is where they are meant to go. Toilet training and puppies is about consistency and he probably already knew about outside and it will take him a while to figure it all out. In the mean time i suggest you stock up on lots of enzymatic cleaners.
