  1. FTPO NO! NO! NO! If you have to use a conditioner ask Lynda about possibly using Groomers Tropical Cream Conditioner which is a semi leave in one. Or your other option is to use EPO Spray On which Lynda would normally advise to use on any dog with really bad itchies. Groomers shampoos do not mix with many other shampoos or conditioners because of there lack of salt. Do not undo the good work you are currently doing! I used to use Aloveen in the past and had more break outs and made my 2 dogs i used it on even worse. Never again!!
  2. Hi LLD Groomers products are brilliant for double coated dogs. I use it on my Border Collies and Australian Shepherds. I use Royal Jelly on the show dogs for coat growth. EPO is only used on the itchy dogs. And I use there Raindrops Salon Range for those dogs that are just hanging around LOL. The reason that you need to thoroughly dry the dogs after shampooing is that you are actually forcing either the EPO or Royal Jelly into the Hair shaft. So with the shampoo you are working from the outside. If you choose to use the Food Supplement you are also working from the inside. Both shampoos have followers in Akita's, Sibes, Aussies, Borders, Collie Roughs, Shelties etc all double coated breeds.
  3. Hi All For those that read this thread and are in Melbourne. Lynda and Archie and there wonderful Groomers products will be at the Pet Expo this weekend. They will have a stand there so look out for them and make sure you say hello.
  4. Have a bitch who broke every metatarsel in her foot. She has a plate and 10 pins in her foot. Her foot is fused in one position. She spent 12 weeks in plaster and confined. She coped as did I. She can run, jump and play and keep up with her mates. The biggest plus is she has stopped her climbing antics.
  5. You are more than correct Joypod. Bones and bones with good meat on them are for the health of teeth and gums. I have 2 Papillons and they have absolutely no issues in chewing on chicken carcasses, chicken necks, chicken legs, lamb bones ( of any description) some beef bones. They adore them and are usually first in line to the fridge when it opens. Good teeth and gums, no smelly breath or smelly problems at all.
  6. Renetta Please wait until you have your puppy home and settled in. Any breeder with any of the CCC's must supply a diet sheet when a puppy goes home. In the meantime you can do plenty of reading on DOL as to diet ie BARF, RAW, premium kibbles etc. Talk to your breeder now so that you have food available for your pup when it comes home.
  7. Actually Westiemum A lot of people buy the Epo shampoo for psoriasis and other scalp problems. So dont laugh. And the Epo cream is brilliant for eczma and psoriasis as well. Even dry and chapped hands. Love the stuff and the smell too
  8. Congratulations Westiemum and Catmother on your results so far. Lynda is amazed at all the phone calls and emails she is getting and I am glad i will be able to report back to her on your results so far. Just remember when you have cleared everything up you can go back to weekly washing, if you get a break out again then back to the twice weekly washing. Enjoy it cos they are wonderful products.
  9. Hi Roorah and welcome For a start your new puppy should come home with a diet sheet from the breeders. I would follow that for a while and then start to swap over to a barf diet. Chicken necks and small lamb riblets should be fine to start your new JRT when you get going as the bone part of there diet. Good Luck
  10. Hi Schaef10 In regards to your dogs weight dont think about that so much. The best bet is to go by feel. If he has a nice covering over his ribs and has a waist then he is at the perfect weight. Small dogs actually probably need more than 2- 3% of there body weight. They burn energy, get cold quickly and thus need more. Start at 3-4% and work up and down from there. Big and little dogs can be fed fish. you may want to be a bit more careful with fine bones with a smaller dog though. Anything with bone in it a bone and meat meal. Hearts are muscle and are considered a meat meal. It is best to look at what you feed over say a month to make sure your dog is getting everything it needs. One of the things you can do with a small dog is cut up a whole chicken into 8-10 pieces and give them out over the month. If you can get rabbit the same. Add in some hearts, a few meals of fish (canned salmon is a great meal) a couple of eggs a week, some good meaty lamb pieces and bobs your uncle. Please remember that you need to introduce new food slowly otherwise you can get really good cannon butt. Have fun its the best way to do it.
  11. There is no problem with washing Aussies once a week let alone once a month. As to the red tinge in his coat it is either his coat drop and dead hair that is waiting to come out OR it is his diet. I have seen Aussies whose black coat has gone red right thru it due to a diet that is not balanced in some way. Personally i would cut out the oats from his diet and any other carbohydrates he does not need them at all.
  12. Sometimes blue eyes are a heriditary issue in regards to lack of pigment. Can the breeder not get the pups eye tested by an opthalmologist. We occassionally get a blue eye in Border Collies and its not an issue at all in the breed. It takes a combination of 16 genes to get that blue eye. It usually follows down in lines or in pups with no pigment over there eyes. And in merles blue eyes are extremely common as the merle gene acts on the pigment of the eye. So we get all sorts of blue eyes from both to part in each eye to one or a half blue eye.

    Skin Allergy

Garloch You do not understand the principals behind EPO shampoo. The program requires washing with it every 4 days for maximum results. It is for itchy red skin, dogs with psoraiss and a host of other issues. It works when the program is followed for most dogs.
  14. Barf requires the addition of fruit and vegetables in the diet. Prey or Raw is meat on the bone basically. Dogs dont eat the fur or feathers of prey. I have chucked our killed dead chooks to some of mine and they just take off all the feathers and spit them out anyway.
  15. If you do a search on DOL for raw or barf there are lots of threads that will come up with links. A more natural diet will consist of more raw foods like chicken wings and necks and lamb flaps etc. Some feed with added vegetable matter and others dont. Your choice really.
  16. I am sure in Darwin you have pet supply stores that have premium kibbles available. Maybe PM papylove as to what she knows in terms of foods available in Darwin. She has a papillon. And as for the brush when you put in your order with Lynda get a brush from her. There are lots on her website to choose from.
  17. Ok if he is a Chinese crested i would suggest that you change immediately your shampoo. Aristo pet has far to much perfume in it and it stinks to high heaven in my opinion. Give Lynda at Groomers a ring. www.groomersproducts.com.au You need to have him on Evening Primrose Shampoo and Food supplement. It means washing him approximately every 4 days to get his skin under control. But if it is going to work you need to follow it pretty much to the letter. Lynda also sells an EPO conditioning spray that can be used when you are brushing him out. I would also suggest that you seriously consider changing his diet to a premium kibble or to a Raw or barf type food. Purina One is a supermarket brand and is not particularly brilliant for many dogs. Groomers also has an EPO food Supplement that can be added to his food. So you are feeding not only the skin from the outside but the body from the inside as well. It may sound like some big changes but sometimes for the health of our dogs we need to look at alternatives in feeding and grooming requirements. And bobbles on Pin brushes are the biggest no no on long coated breeds they rip coat. Get a decent pin brush they start from about $10 for a cheepie up to about $100 or more depending on what you buy. A $30 brush is probably what you should be looking at. Good Luck
  18. Any long coated dog should be dampened down with a mist of either water or a watery conditioner before brushing otherwise you can have issues with coat and hair damage. Are the pins on your brush got bobbles on the end. You may need to look at how you are brushing as well
  19. What shampoo are you using? Brand ? What food are you feeding exactly? Brand? What has your vet suggested? What breed is your dog?
  20. Lots of questions here? What are you feeding him? what are you washing him in? Are you drying him completely after you wash him? Do you mist him when you brush him? What sort of brush are you using on him?
  21. twoweis The only difference for puppies is you would be feeding more to them as they are growing. If you have a dal i would be pretty much skipping a lot of the beef and just using other sources of meat that he has no issues with. Once you get started its fairly easy to work with. My 5 week old babies get lots of variety already. Some foods they play with and others they get stuck into. They love mince of any description. They play with lamb heart chunks then eat them. They play with chicken necks but really chew on chicken carcasses. They have had bones from lamb and beef to chew on. i do feed a small amount of soaked kibble only as i dont know where they will be going but on the whole its lots and lots of meat and chewy things.
  22. Maltesers why are you waiting for the vet to ring you? You should make an appointment and go and see the vet with both your dogs.
  23. Take your dogs to a vet. it could be anything and there is not enough information for anyone to be handing out possible causes. Your vet will ask lots of questions that may give them answers as to what it is.
  24. I agree most produce stores will stock Equinade Purple for the show horsie people. It does a great job.
  25. If anyone can get a copy of "Works Wonders" by Tom Lonsdale there is lots and lots of information in there. I do have a PDF copy of it but it takes forever to send to anyone. I know that you can buy it over the net for a small fee so it may be worth while to download for anyone that is truly interested in Raw/Prey feeding.
