Obedience Classes In Toowoomba Qld
wylie replied to ownedbyamstaff's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
OK drove past Lockyer Valley club today on the way to work. Classes commence at 7pm so would suggest getting there about 6.45pm You need to go around the back of the building and park and the club area is around the back there. IN regards to Toowoomba i have been given a number of 4633 2241 to make a training booking. I do have another number if that doesnt work. Its for the Robkens who own one of my Aussie puppies. LMAO. I dont think they have quite worked out what they have got themselves into with young Billie. They are also training her sister Pepper as well who lives with there son and his family. -

Whereabouts are you? I am sure Lockyer Valley meets on a Monday at the Laidley Cultural Centre. Used to be a member of both clubs. Moved from Toowoomba so no longer go there and Mondays is not a good day for training for me with work situation. -

I believe there is only one obedience club in Toowoomba details in the journal are Mrs K Murray 4635 5040 If you have any troubles getting a hold of her i will get onto my contact for you. -
Personally having used both and having a dog that reacted badly to Aloveen and Episoothe i would switch to Groomers EPO vet shampoo any day. As long as you follow the instructions in regards to washing and drying most people have had good results. Linda at Groomers is an awesome person to talk to and discuss your current issues and what she thinks will help in the long run.

T touch is an awesome adjunct in natural therapies. I have used it on fearful dogs as well as on puppies and have good results. I have a friend who is a T touch practitioner and her advise has always been invaluable. I am sure there are some other threads on DOL about it have a search.

Piper To you and your family our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Reagan. There is never a good time to say goodbye. May he continue to "bounce" in your memories. He and Ricky are now at the Rainbow Bridge together again.

There is lots of information on swimmer puppies on DOL. Please use the search function. I am one that was able to save a swimmer puppy who went on to become a Champion with a good hipscore. Swimmer puppies are basically lazy puppies that need to work for there food. The quicker you get them up and moving the better off they are. Lots of movement, swimming and rolling of rib cages.

Try Rohan Kilmartin at Animal Options in Ormeau. He is a wonderful gentle soul who also does alternative treatments including chinese herbs and acupuncture as well. He has a Masters in Chiro and is a vet as well.

Ivermectin Sensitivity & Desexing
wylie replied to Dame Aussie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Here is a website with the list of MDR1 drugs that can cause sensitivities if used Problem Drugs for dogs with MDR1 sensitivity There are definitely drugs that should not be used ever with Aussies and your breeder should have given you a list or a website with those. If anyone does not have have it i am happy to send some of the information i have collected over the years. ASHGI website also has lots of information on it re MDR1 sensitivity and the drugs that are contraindicated. -
Friend had this happen with a Keeshond. She actually had quite severe HD in reality. They tried to pop it back twice and she ended up having to have major surgery in the end. Was recuperating at home and she did the other hip so again had to have surgery. It was an extremely expensive time for them but as there much beloved and adored pet nothing was to much. Her recuperation otherwise was uneventful and she is currently leading a happy and full life.

Go for it. My dogs love them! They are given as a major treat about once a fortnight. The only thing they ever leave is part of the jawbone with its teeth. They eat them all and i guarantee my butcher is the same butcher as yours too.

I just found this interesting article on Calcium and regulation of vitamin D. I thought those who breed and who feed BARF, RAW etc may be interested in it. Calcium and regulation of Vitamin D

Ughhhh!! Why do people listen to vets that are not there usual. Vets do very little in the way of dog nutrition in there studies. Most of it is sponsored by dog food companies anyway. There are many many breeders, owners, rescuers that feed raw from birth on without issues. Feed what your dog does best on. I feed RAW and have done for years and wouldnt go back to feeding kibble on a regular basis ever it costs to much for a start and the stink and amount of poop is another.

Age You First Had Your Dog Checked - Dog Chiro Or Similar
wylie replied to ness's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My youngest two babies went at about 9 - 10 weeks as part of there socialisation process. My chiro/vet is brilliant gives them a quick go over and a pat and a treat and its all over red rover. Neither needed adjusting anyway. Didnt get charged for them either. Have been going for a fair while with different dogs for different issues so its just more of an intro for the babies. Its another car ride and meeting new people and having a different experience to the norm more for them. -
Alan Wilton from the UNSW is the only one who can do the TNS testing in Australia. He will not release the gene ID or the test until it was patented after the CL debarcle. The Health Clinic days at Durack run by the CCCQ Health Sub committee are regularly run and notification made and advertised in the journal. Suzie Chandler is the contact and it is the cheapest way to get the test done.

Actually with Aussies only one copy of the MDR1 gene is needed for a reaction unfortunately. The incidence is actually higher than many believe so therefore most breeders advise puppy buyers not to utilise anything in the "ctin" range. As a breeder i certainly do and also make sure that puppy buyers hand a sheet of information to there vets about MDR1 sensitivity. Better to be safe than sorry in my books. And i know of a pup that was given 1 single heartguard and ended up in hospital later that evening due to his reaction. It is a drug that can have immediate effects or it can build up in the system and then have a reaction later. Many Aussies have been fine on "ctin' products and then react badly. So you never know if it will be the first dose or the second or any other subsequent doses. For heartworm Interceptor is the product of choice or DEC. For fleas and ticks frontline or Advantix. Interceptor is also a general all wormer as well.

I know all about separated Growth plates here Jed. They happen in an instant and there is nothing you can do about them. One of my young BC bitches separated hers at 4 months of age. Swollen to the max the next day and limping and refusing to eat at all. 10 weeks later and it has finally healed and she is running around again like a hooligan. Still pulls up sore occassionally and is back off her tucker. Lots of rest and lots more rest and quite a few trips to our wonderful vet/chiro for alternative meds as he also does homeopathics and chinese meds. And Shoshana i had a different bitch break her foot so badly we didnt know if she would keep it. a wonderful surgeon and a massive bill later she still has her leg.

May he run free at the Rainbow bridge! Sincere condolences Cala

New vaccination power point presentation This is a very interesting website that is easy to read and understand. Talks about vaccination protocols, annual heart worm shots and also shows articles and other websites to back up all the information collated. It is by Bob Rogers DVM and is actually a power point presentation Hope others find it as interesting as i did. Cheers

Puppies should be wormed at the breeders at 2,4,6,8 weeks Puppies should then be wormed at 10 and 12 weeks at there new home then monthly to 6 months and 3 monthly till a year. You will need a good all wormer check out the drontals at the supermarket. Please remember to worm for the correct weight, if the wormer says up to 10kg and your pup is over 10 kg it is better to go up to the next 5 kg mark
-
A couple of questions for you Have you wormed her? Have you increased her food intake as she has grown? Puppies go thru growth spurts and there food intake needs to be increased and then they will need to have it decreased again when there system is no longer growing. As long as you can feel ribs and back bone through light pressure i would increase her food intake at all meals and see how she goes with that. If she starts stacking on the weight it can then be reduced slightly. Good luck

I have Paps. I have never cut up chicken necks for them they get given them whole and have done since they were brought here or were born. They get a small amount of kibble however they eat chicken frames, lambs hearts (cut in half) and any bones beef pork or lamb that my bigger dogs get. They are treated the same as the big kids but may get smaller offerings. I have attached a pic of Dream who carried a whole chicken carcass into her bed which she had decided was hers and not one of the big kids.

vrox please change vets!! No vet unless they have been trained in scoring hips and are accredited should be even taking xrays at such a young age and giving a diagnosis. Talk about a money maker for your vet!! I find your vets actions highly unethical in his treatment of a novice dog owner. Its money grubbing at its worst. Did you tell your breeder of the actions of this vet and what was there response?

Please do some research as to what bones are appropriate and which arent on a BARF or RAW diet. Large ungulate bones which in general are large marrow bones are not appropriate for any dog ever. Millie should not have bones left with her overnight. She should be getting 2 meals a day at minimum and supervised feeding at that. There are plenty of threads on DOL as to what and what isnt appropriate with links in many cases.
