Try 1000 to 2000mg of Vitamin C in his diet daily. It will help to assimilate his calcium and any excess will be peed out. Pat Hastings recommends it as well as an adult based dry food to help fronts.

My dogs get variety over the week..........so they could have Chicken carcasses complete with liver hearts kidneys and other unknowns in them Lamb flaps Pork bones including flaps Beef bones Lamb Hearts Chicken Hearts Tongues of various animals Pigs heads handed out whole that they go to town on and only leave a bit of jaw bone we occassionally source Emu tho the bones are very light so it is a very light meal LMAO occassionally turkey and any thing else we can source cheaply and in quantity I dont weigh at all, if they are getting fat i give them less if they are skinny they get more. Over time it works out and thats the main thing. Girls in whelp get given more as they like, they dont tend to be massive pigs on the whole so keeping weight steady on them all is fairly easy. I have a couple of good keepers that do get smaller amounts. The boys tend to get the most especially when girls are in season. I have a couple with minimal teeth and they do fine on whatever i give them. The old girl is 12 and has very few teeth and still goes to town on anything she is given including carcasses and any meaty bones. She loves to chew on a pigs head. I also feed my pups mainly raw tho i do feed some kibble as many puppy buyers dont want to or are uncomfortable with feeding raw. So they get given options. The pups tend to prefer raw food anyway over the kibble.

Another total RAW feeder here who does not believe in giving dogs vegie matter. Did it for 12 months and got frustrated with it on the whole. Now i just grab boxes out of the freezer, defrost them either in the fridge for a couple of days or outside covered overnight and feed them. Mine eaten frozen bones and carcasses without an issue. Its my issue when i get frozen hands trying to separate the carcasses to hand out.

Why is it that puppy buyers refuse to listen to breeders and instead listen to vets? Vets do very little in the way of animal nutrition. Breeders do far more research and have far more knowledge than vets in that regard. One of my recent puppy purchasers went and bought a small bag of kibble for there pup at the vets and was then given the third degree by the vet nurse as to why they werent buying a larger bag. They informed her it was because (I) the breeder wanted him on adult food by 16 weeks to grow him slowly. They were basically told that they shouldnt do it and the vet would be brought out to tell them as well. They stood there ground thank goodness bought the small bag and left and then informed me. Personally i would not be going back there nor should they. This was a pup that was the true runt of the litter so I had asked that they hold off on the switch over for a couple of weeks to give him a chance to catch up to where his brothers were. If your breeder suggested you switch to adult why havent you? And have you informed them you are still feeding puppy and the issues you are now having??
-
CoupeDash Vets arent as au fait with feeding requirements as many think. It is something breeders are far more familiar with. As a breeder i do not feed puppy food past 12 weeks as i want slow growth. All my puppies i keep and that go into pet homes are given an information sheet stating that they need to swap over to adult food at about 12 weeks if they are not going to feed raw. And the BC pup that i sent to Austria was growing very quickly tho he was not fat. The whole point was that it works. Lower the protein level and the issues can resolve. Pat Hastings of "The Puppy Puzzle" also recommends pups are moved over to adult ASAP. So its not a theory that doesnt work. It also works for pups who are way down on pastern or are over knuckling. Try it you may be surprised.

Having just been thru something similar with a Border collie that was sent overseas move him onto Adult Royal Canin not the Junior or anything else. His body is growing way faster than his ligaments can cope with. Also Vitamin C needs to be added to his diet to help assimilate the calcium he is eating. Royal Canin is to high in protein for pups that are growing quickly. The BC was no longer limping with in a week and all reports from the past month have also been no limping. He would be better off on a raw diet personally.

Dancinbcs I have seen numerous BC's here in Qld with Lupus. And my first one i saw was my vets BC 8 years ago. All have been confirmed and most have been owned by Pet people who have not passed on that information to breed clubs as they are not members or have no connections to do so. Asics case of Lupus was actually very bad and he was on all sorts of meds and was not allowed to run so my old boy Zac became her running partner.

Sure have Much prefer it over metacalm etc as it has less side effects. Was pain relief of choice for my old boy Zac when he was first diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, has been given for relief with a broken leg and also after 2 Caesars.

If a dog doesnt chew them hand them an even bigger piece so they do chew. Cut up a whole chicken and hand them half. Easy!! A large dog then hand them a whole chicken. They soon learn to start chewing properly.
-
If you are so worried about giving them bones why then are you feeding them minced chicken carcasses. Some of the mincing can be questionable at the best of times. Try a lamb flap for them. Turkey necks are brilliant. If you want to try something different try a lambs heart or ox heart instead of the chicken mince. They have to chew them and then work your way up to meat encased in bone. You are anxious so your dogs will be anxious. Go inside and have a cup of coffee and watch them from a window. I guarantee they will be thanking you. Do you give them things like biscuits or pigs ears cos exactly the same thing could happen. Basically if they can swallow it it ends up in one of two places, chucked up or in their stomachs.

Actually they do get offal the chicken carcasses i get have liver and kidneys and other bits in them. They eat them so there is no need to supplement.

You are correct Nickojoy A pup from a carrier to clear mating can in no way be affected. If a pup was to be used in a breeding program then yes it will need to be DNA tested for HC and L2HGA. If it comes up a carrier then it would have to be put to a clear. If it is clear then can be put to a clear for all clear or a carrier dependent on your experience and comfort with potentially breeding more carriers
-
None of my pups are discounted they all cost exactly the same to produce. As i usually keep something from a litter only on Main and the remainder go on Limit there is no need to test in my eyes. Tho in saying that some breeders will DNA test for CL or TNS as it is far cheaper to do. Unfortunately $180 to DNA a pup is not a high priority to me for Limit registered pups as they are only potentially carriers and not affected. I have a friend who DNA tests for Colour in her Border collies especially in regards to the ee red gene but she is overseas. She does it for the knowledge as to what may be produced in a litter down the track. She DNA tested one of the girls i sent her and was quietly pleased she was an ee red carrier which was confirmed with her second litter.

I feed prey model and have 2 papillons as well as the borders and Aussies. The paps get exactly the same as the big dogs but in slightly smaller quantities. They get half a chicken carcass or a lambs heart or some lamb ribs or beef bones. Never ever had an issue with anal glands and they are both as healthy as, tho one could do with a massive diet but she steals extras from the borders. I dont do vegies or anything else, they may get a small amount of leftovers or cheese or an egg but thats about it.

Nickojoy you really havent read any of the responses have you?? When DNA testing came out for example in Border Collies, we had CEA then not long after we had a DNA test for CL and then not long after that we had a DNA test for TNS. With 3 DNA tests many dogs would have been precluded from many breeding programs due to their carrier status. Wise breeders chose to work with the DNA status of their dogs and work towards a Clear program. However there is also the problem that if you only breed for Clears what else are you going to change in the breed or what other disease is going to be brought to the fore front. When the CEA testing was done many dogs came back as Carriers and some were Affected all of them had Clear eye certificates however. I was hit with my 2 stud dogs at the time and their progeny all on the whole being Carriers. I have chosen to continue my breeding program with my carriers in the hope one day my lines will be clear of CEA. However i do not want to currently deal with carriers of CL or TNS however i may in the future as there is a dog i would dearly love to breed who is a carrier of one. As breeders those of us who have Carrier lines are very upfront about our puppies possible status. Most would put pups on Limit Register with a desexing agreement. We all hopefully screen buyers so that they do not land in the hands of potential backyard breeders. And Carrier status does not mean that a breeder is not breeding to the standard or not trying to better the breed. Style Type and Lines are lost due to people removing carriers from a breeding program sometimes to the major detriment of the breed. Carrier status is no worse or no better than a breeder putting 2 dogs together in there backyard who have no real breed type but are registered as a pure breed with there respective state body. There is far more to breeding dogs than just there DNA status in any breeding program, temperament, health in other areas including hips and elbows, style, type and structure are all things that breeders take into account. DNA status is just one more variable to have to deal with.

Clear to Clear 100 per cent Clear Clear to Carrier on average 50 per cent Clear and 50 per cent Carriers Clear to Affected all are Carriers

Can I Fly My Amstaff From L.a. To Sydney On Qantas?

Quaint Ar@# are not the only ones who can be used to import or export dogs. Plenty of other airlines are used everyday. One of my pups recently flew out on Korean airlines. -
Avocado - Any Links To Research
wylie replied to MolassesLass's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
ML there is a food in the USA that includes avocado as a key ingredient. And i was of the understanding that it was the skin and the pip were the main concern. However cold pressed pip is used in the manafacture of the USA food. Its something like Avoderm (sp??) -
Another dog that has its owners trained extremely well. Get rid of all the crap and stop offering her leftovers. No wonder she is itching like crazy. Dogs were not designed to eat humans leftovers tho they certainly enjoy them. If you must give her left over roast cut it up into small peices and use it instead of dog chocs and smackos. Put her food down for 10 - 15 minutes and if she doesnt eat it pick it up and put it away and offer it to her for her next meal. No dog will ever starve themselves. She is waiting for you to offer what she considers a higher food value. I have papillons and a friend had my oldest girl for a few months. She was bashing her chicken necks and cutting them up into tiny peices to get her to eat. She came home on the weekend and was promptly placed back on eat it whole or dont eat it. She ate it without an issue. If you want a pretty princess who has issues go for it but if you want a princess with manners stop playing to her demands. I would also suggest you add some fish oil to her diet, salmon capsules are the best i think and available from the supermarket or health store as she is not getting enough oil in her current diet.

Dont tell her anything she will bombard us with utube out takes all the time LMAO!!!!!!

It is my understanding that it is 2-3 per cent of adult weight for any BARF feeding. However in saying that some dogs will require more and some would require less. I would continue with the 500 grams for your boy plus his bones. Feeding dogs is always an individual thing and as i have some BC bitches that average about 14 kgs there intake can be more than my 22 kg dog. Personally going by feel of ribs is the way to go if you can feel them with light pressure then they are at a good weight. For a performance dog some like them to be a bit leaner. Exercise also plays an important part in how much any dog should be fed as well. Some will again require more if they are in heavy work or exercised a lot. Its a lot of trial and error to start with but you will eventually get to a happy medium.

Flags For Tracking Training
wylie replied to MolassesLass's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Much easier to make your own. Dowel lengths in 10 -12 inch peices. Bright material cut into triangles. Use a staple gun to attach to the dowel Long nails for the bottom of the dowels. You will need an angle grinder tho to take off the head once they have been hammered in. All set to go then
