Tried all of the above. It's just like at times she has no interest in food whereas usually pups hoe in and really have a good old guts. When she is awake she walks around and appears happy enough. I may take her to the vet for a check up. I know she should be lapping and eating about 4 meals a day. She sleeps a lot and never cries. She also doesn't come running to the side of her pen wanting to get out. I think with all the handling to do with food maybe she doesn't like feeding time. Last meal at night and first thing in the morning she isn't too bad but through the day doesn't seem interested. She has only put on about 9 grams since last night. She doesn't seem dehydrated though. I am really at my wits end. Her mother went home to her owner on Sunday evening. I wonder if she misses her. Was she eating okay before the mother went home? Have you tried adding a bit of wombaroo puppy to the mince? I would definitely be getting the vet to have a look.

All being well - there will be pups 2nd March with me, Takanz standard poodles. This will be my last litter (though people say that I have said that before) and I expect a lovely litter of mainly black but maybe a white or two.

Yes, I've used them and, whereas I have been happy with the end result, I did have hassles getting the results. Samples and bookwork got lost twice and I did have to get on their case to get results in time for my last litter. Good price for the testing that they do, but make sure you give yourself plenty of time.

Great advice. I'll just add - a warm towel on the area just prior to massage helps. Try and milk the first milk off then put the pups on. Put the strongest sucker on the most affected boob. Also, give your bitch a course of protexin to put her gut flora back or you may have a diarrohea problem as well. Good Luck. Awfully stressful for you and your girl.

Don't forget to keep massaging the teats where the mastitis is. The antibiotics will stop it getting infected but won't break up the lumps. Yes, massage is important. Good idea to use a warm towel (or similar) before massaging. Also, a cabbage leaf works wonders. Good luck with everything, hope it's going well now.

I agree with underfoot. I would take a bet that she wants to move her pups, she is not feeling secure where she is right now.

Yes thanks for that always thought it was so and told buyer this but sure he will love his pup anyway - he is buying him as a pet. Thought it worth a try - I usually advise desexing at 6 months feel in a mini poodle that is not going to effect its growth by much. I have standard poodles and often get the "we want a really big dog..." or "we want a small standard..." I tell people (nicely) that I can only guarantee that they will get a %100 standard poodle from health tested parents and that I do my very best to make sure all pups are healthy, happy and well adjusted. It's worked out so far and everyone is happy.

Yeah, I know, its a shame because wrestling the big boxes is quite an event :laugh: and storage is a bugger too. fifi I buy a new one for each litter as I only use four pieces of melamine and it costs $90 from Bunnings already pre cut. I bin it after I have finished with it. I really like this idea. What do you join the pieces with; corner brackets? I really don't want to buy a new expensive whelping box for this litter as I am quite sure this is my last litter.

I've been looking for the same thing (standard poodle litter due at the end of the month), but I've only seen them available in the UK.

What happened to the topic? I was following it as I have also had problems getting anything done about a registered pedigree breeder supplying for a designer dog breeder..thought someone might have a helpful suggestion.

A bit off topic..but, I really wish there was a big media/educational push by our various clubs/societies/controlling bodies to let people know the difference between a registered pup and a pup from a BYB. Most people, when you talk to them, have no idea why they should get a pup from a registered breeder and don't realise, that, quite often, they pay more for their non health tested BYB pup than they would from a registered breeder that does the right thing. I am probably being naive, but I feel that if their was a concerted effort to educate, then the question of pediatric sterilisation would not be such an issue. Personally, I wish there was no need to put young pups through these procedures, but agree with the others that, if it is necessary, then vasectomy and tubal ligation are the way to go.

Thanks for all the information. I actually printed most of it out and had a good read in bed last night. I will now go back to how I was feeling about yearly vaccinations with the backing of some extremely sound articles. I'm in the 'older' age group and we never used to vaccinate yearly and my canines have nearly always lived very long and healthy lives. I have a young girl that, if she passes all her various testing) I will be breeding from this year - guess I will have to have her given boosters when she has a pre-mating check-up - other than that I will talk to my vet about doing the yearly 'medicals' without vaccinations. I really do appreciate all the terrific links and comments.
