  1. I haven't heard of it for kennel situations but in other applications ozone will burn up bacteria. You would have to have it set up so the air passed through the ozone generator and I don't know how you would do that in a kennel. An interesting concept as it is the bacteria that causes the smell. Of course ozone in large amounts is not good for you.
  2. It may be that he is a dog that can't take a lot of fat in his diet or that he needs more of a low residue diet. I have a bitch that was doing the same thing and when I changed her to a low residue diet plus chicken broth she hasn't had a problem since. I know that every dog is different in the amount of fat etc. they can tolerate in their diet. I gradually weaned her over to a senior diet, even though she isn't senior, and she is doing very well so far. I also used to feed Eagle Pack but it was a bit too rich/fatty for my lot.
  3. Thanks for that link Huski, I have contacted them!
  4. Eagle Pack is has a fairly high fat content and fat can aggrevate the problem. Perhaps try giving the boring old chicken and rice for 4-5 days before switching back to the normal food OR consider feeding Dr.Billinghurst BARF diet after the 4-5th day. I have had very good results with the Rabbit variety and it didn't aggrevate an already upset tummy.
  5. If it is just travel sickness then a puppy will usually grow out of it. I know some people will give small doses of human travel sickness pills but I have never done that. If it is anxiety caused by a fear of travelling in a car then it takes a bit more work to cure. Usually by just sitting in the car with the dog, or feeding the dog in the car and gradually extending that to 5 minute drives and then increasing the driving time, etc. etc.
  6. Who paid for the treatment cause if it was caused by the HWB then the vet should supply the meds to fix it?
  7. When you use a grooming table, grooming arm and all the attachments, etc. you are actually teaching your dog how to correctly stand and be groomed. That is what these aides do, they prevent the dog from learning bad habits and correct ones that they have learnt. He moves because he either doesn't understand or otherwise it is his way of getting out of being groomed, and this is a learnt behaviour. Just like anything else you do around dogs, when grooming you should give yourself and the dog every chance of having a successful and positive experience and a lack of control usually is not a happy experience for all concerned.
  8. Have you tried Dr.Billinghursts BARF? I have only recently switched over to it in the Rabbit formula and my dogs would sell their souls for it, even my fussy eater who won't even eat specially prepared boiled chicken, etc. absolutely vacuums the plate when the BARF is being fed. When BARF first came out many years ago the patties were very nasty looking, soggy things that I wouldn't even feed after I bought it, but now it is absolutely fantastic, well packaged, smells great and very appealing to even the pickiest eater.
  9. PP are notoriously expensive in everything they sell. I was hoping someone else sold it too but I haven't found anyone. I would buy Artemis but it seems not to be sold in our area.
  10. I am amazed that a hot water bottle could give such a small round burn. You would think that if it was a HWB then it would be over an area say, as big as your hand. I would be inclined to think that if they gave an injection in or around that spot, then that would be highly suspect. Do they wipe the area with something before they inject?
  11. Do you use a grooming arm with a neck noose and a lower body noose to hold him on the table?
  12. I noticed that the black light will show up spilt laundry detergent so I am thinking that it may show up anything with ammonia in it which would explain why it shows up dog pee. I know it shows up all the little white bits of fluff on the carpet that you can't normally see in daylight.
  13. Spay but with complications.
  14. I normally feed boiled chicken and rice as a bland diet. Dog has just had an op and is on antibiotics and is not eating the chicken & rice very well at all. It just doesn't inspire her to eat so she just picks at it. I don't class Dr.B's BARF diet as bland but I know she will eat that. Do you think it is likely to upset her gut?
  15. No, they don't always give take home antibiotics. They may have given an antibiotic injection though. You will have to ask.
  16. Can I ask where you get the probiotics? I have Protexin - better or worse than acidophilus capsules?
  17. They also get stuck in the face wickies and are absolutely awful to try to get them out when they dry there!! Raw chicken necks, raw carrot, solid rubber toy bones and the occasional piggy ear are all I give now!
  18. Bayer Customer information line for Advantage is 1800 678 368 from anywhere in Australia!
  19. Since playing in puppies is basic training for hunting and killing etc. (in the dogs ancestors) I would presume the puppy vocalising is probably training for the sounds that an adult would normally do when they are psyching themselves up for the hunt along with all the other emotions that puppies go through when they are practicing, frustration, excitement, happiness, guarding, etc.
  20. I would have probably made some comment to the vet, like 'is it me or are you having a bad day??" Some of them seem to lose touch with why they are there in the first place. I now insist that they answer all my questions fully, or I just don't budge!! I mentioned a problem I had with a lack of treatment in a certain area with a specialist vet and then I noticed that they changed their procedure for everyone after that!! What I had complained about was rectified and a better procedure started for everyone. IMO You just don't have to accept bad treatment and you shouldn't leave until you have sorted the issues!
  21. Thanks for that. I will feed that one later than the rest. Everyone else has no problems holding on but then they are older.
  22. I also feed raw and the crate is just the right size. Does anyone know how long it takes for food to pass through a dog from 'go to whoa'??
  23. It is usual to start monthly heartworm at 12 weeks of age - I give it on the first of each month so it is easy to remember. I buy Heartguard Plus Chewables (monthly) which has a month each way in protection ie. if you give it on 1 June then it will retrospectively cover any heartworm contracted in the month of May. (Probably other monthly heartworm medications do the same thing but I am unfamiliar with other brands.) So in theory if you started at 12 weeks of age it would be covering the pup from 8 weeks of age, if you get my drift.
  24. I have a 6mth old that has decided that it is necessary to poop in the crate overnight. Can anyone tell me in theory what would be the optimum time to feed her once a day so that the need to poop would be minimised?? I currently feed her a few chicken necks in the morning but I am thinking that it might be better to feed her those after she has had her dinner of an evening. Currently she is being fed at approx. 4.30pm and she goes to bed at about 9.30pm.
