  1. Yes I saw the episode were Judge Judy said that. In other episodes she has also been critical of the breed. No it is not true.
  2. Is it possible your dogs could also do this to their head ? Never know they could see a lizard or whatever and try and go after it, get under the same way that dog did. I take its its a sheet metal fence without a bottom rail ? Same thing happened to my dog. I built a shed out of color bond sheets and one day (entirely my fault ofcourse) she stuck her head under there for whatever reason, and then when she tried to pull her head out she nearly scalped herself. Very big wound across the back of her skull, she needed plenty of stitches but otherwise was fine.
  3. By rights it does not sound like you owe him anything. Its his dog, part of its body crossed your boundary, so its his problem. Having said that, i'd give some thought to whether or not you should pay half for the sake of keeping it "friendly", thats for you to decide on your own.
  4. Thats right alot of these scum are registered breeders. Having said that this story is probably exaggerated. They won't release photos because they are too shocking ? Yeh right. More like the photos do not support thier story. If it was the way they say it is then there should be plenty of grounds for charges.
  5. Yes that is also my interpretation of the word. "Game" is not fight specific, and certainly not APBT specific. Its just a dog which is bold, courageous, and willing to put in 100% to see a job through. I am not sure I would agree that fighting dogs always fight out of either fear or aggression. Whilst iv never owned a fighting dog or been involved in dog fighting, from what I have seen, it really depends. I think some dogs fight purely out of instruction, doing a job, the same as dogs which are trained for military use. Iv seen much footage of Tosa Inu fighting in Japan and Korea and they certainly do not strike me as bieng aggressive. They hold thier tails straight out naturally, and wag side to side in a relaxed fashion. Thier hackles are down, and they do not growl or infact make any sound at all. eta: Actually id like to add one more thing which supports my observations I also remember reading once, that the Samurai used to look to the Tosa Inu for inspiration, due to its courage and even tempermant. Ofcourse that was at the heart of thier philosophy and spiritual beliefs, the strict importance of an even tempermant, not to fight out of aggression or build up of anxiety, ect.
  6. The sentence is not bad, 7 months is 7 months, it should be enough to make him reconsider his actions in the future, and the ban from owning animals is excellent although I wonder if they can realistically enforce it, and what the penalty is in the event he is found to own an animal within that time. I think people overestimate the moral heros in jail. More than likely nothing will happen to him, especially given that going by his name his a pac islander and probably big enough and ugly enough to look after himself.
  7. He WHAT ??? Well he isnt the one thats going to have to stitch up people hands when they get bitten. Also theres no way in hell that Pitbulls are anywhere even close to the 7th most attacking breed.
  8. "Shocking" Everyone's favourite word apparently. Does not look human at all, and I do not see any motive for why it would be photoshopped ..... because it does not look human. You want a human looking dog for a story i'll whip one up in PS no problem, but it wont look like that.
  9. RIP Daddy What a great little mate he was I was always very proud of him, as ofcourse was Cesar and all his fans all around the world. He will be remembered.
  10. Its hardly a tragedy. WW2 was a tragedy, this is a kid with stitches in his calf from a dog bite. Having said that I am in "shock". Its a shocking incident because a dog other than an alleged Pitbull was reportedly involved.
  11. Sounds like one neurotic dog. This kids father sounds like king jackarse I cant stand people like that.
  12. Well the first incident sounds pretty clear, it was the bones. Doesnt always matter if the other dog doesnt show an interest in the bones, some dogs will still become aggressive, she may be "paranoid" for lack of a better term, or she may not be used to being fed near another dog. The two number one ways to cause two dogs to fight, 2 males + 1 inseason bitch, or, feed them together. Sometimes a single situation like that is all it takes to start the beginings of a change in the dogs tempermant, because thier first experience with dog agression (even at an advance age) turns out to be successful (she dominated the dog, then she went back to her feed) and so now she recalls that she achieved her means via aggression.
  13. Stray dogs are a fact of life, most will go away if you intimidate them, but some will not. I let dogs with friendly body language come close if they are interested, otherwise, I scare them away from afar. Deep, angry, loud voice, aggressively snapping out the lower arm and pointing away, ect. This kind of thing usually works, but when it doesnt you have to use force. The other month 3 little guys ran out of thier house and tried to attack my dog. They ran straight for us growling and going mad, I cleared them all with kicks, not alot else I could do. JRT's have got spring loaded back legs, had I picked her up they probably would have jumped up and be hanging off her backside, its happened before.
  14. Thats me. I dont know why I have never owned one, but I will one day. Like they say your brain is like a sponge when your a kid, they also say your fundumental personality is set by the age of 4. Well I have been around Bull Terriers since I was very small, and my uncles dog was a hero I loved him, he was my friend, he'd sit next to me, id feed him bbq, we would swim together, play cars together, and the image of his loveable egg head is part of my personality
  15. They were serious alright, problem is no one thinks past "the dog should have bitten harder".
  16. Bull Terriers are such a fascinating, beautiful breed. I have also noted that numbers seem to be low. When I first started to love Bull Terriers as a young kid in the 80's, when I used to see them around quite a bit (and my uncle had one). But no definetly there are not a common breed. In contrast to New Zealand were I noticed they seemed to be about the MOST common breed, especially in and around Mt Roskill, Auckland. Not sure if that is an indicator of the rest of the country but they sure were frequent there.
  17. Ok well we might have to agree to disagree. Again, just to clarify, my views arnt about critisizing police or defending suspects, and im not saying that the dogs dont have a role to play, im just saying that they are knowingly bieng put in danger, and so the fate of that dog cannot be anyone's responsibility but the handlers and the police departments. eta Also what prompted me to post initially were various comments about the "dog should have bitten harder". Well the harder the dog bites, the more urgency there is to get it off. So the more serious the attack, the more serious the response, the more chance the dog will be hurt.
  18. The handler may know his dog, but the suspect doesnt. All a suspect sees is an aggressive dog, he doesnt know what its capable of or what its going to do. Its a dog, a large one, which has been trained to attack, most people will do what it takes to defend themselves instinctively. Having said that, I see your point aswell and understand that they have a role to play, but what im saying is that ultimately, when they get hurt its the police that are at fault for putting them in a danger. As you say So the chance of the dog getting hurt is pretty good and everyone knows that as soon as the leash is uncliped.
  19. The police may feel that deploying the dog to attack or intimidate may be of benifit, however its still the police departments fault if the dog gets hurt, not the suspects. The handler is the one that put the dog in a situation where it is nearly inevitable that it will be hurt.
  20. The more a dog is used to intimidate someone, and the harder it "bites", the more chance it will get hurt. Ofcourse the guy hit it. The handlers put these dogs in danger and I dont agree with it. The other month there was a case (im sure it happens alot, but this one was reported) were a dog was kicked and hit with a baseball bat. A dog is not a human police officer. You dont know what the dog is going to do, if its going to attack, and if it does attack how sustained that attack will be, its only natural to defend yourself against an aggressive loose dog, whether its a police dog or otherwise. Then when these dog gets hurt they turn around and blame the suspect, when they are the ones that have put the dog in the dangerous situation in the first place. I think dogs should be used for all manner of work, law enforcement or otherwise, but not in an attacking role that puts them in danger.
  21. Your dog does look very lean to me. I'm used to my mums Golden Retriever. We call him "big oaf", because his a big boy Not fat, just the way his built. Big boned, really big paws, a big boof head, fat muzzle, ect.
  22. Theres always an excuse to dramatize a non event, they do it all the time. If it wasnt this it would be something else, and who is hurt by this kind of garbage reporting ? Our innocent dogs. Now they have hurt the name of the Rottwieller, who sounds as though he was in his yard, never mind the fact that the little guy was allowed to roam around looking for trouble, never mind the other dozen that happened the same way in Australia that day.
  23. Dont know whats news worthy about that. Dog fight, small dog lost, no kidding. It does read as though the dog was loose, and more than likely the little guy was in on the act just as much as the big guy, if he was close enough to be pulled through the fence suggest they where at odds with each other at the fenceline.
  24. When humans stop believing they are something they are not (ie, something other than or more than an animal) they will gain more insight into animal behaviour. Like you say, it is very similar to human pack mentality.
