  1. I"m also very discouraged to see no neuter classes offered. I"m pleased that our specialty will have it, but not impressed that the clubs won't go down that road. I do have a question that I can't find an answer to. I have a Champion that will be shown in the neuter class for a title. I know I have to send in the registration and desex papers but when this animal obtains the neuter champion, how will it show on registration? I'm assuming the champion status will remain, but what about the neuter champion status? N/Ch? maybe?
  2. |Oh you have said it SO true...I"ve played in the US rings (Canada's better but following their lead and in some areas almost as bad) and it's not for the faint of heart. Many owners can do the breed level but pass their dogs off for groups to a handler as it's a totally different game! Inside shows for example where handlers will direct the spectators who to cheer for and who to NOT cheer for. Every time a dog is asked to move, the sound is deafening. The audience pushes for their favourites and lord help the poor soul that isn't known (or their dog) as when they move, you can hear a pin drop. There is no politeness when it comes to applauding for everyone equally. I have been in the ring (breed level which is a bit different) where judges have instructed spectators to be quiet/keep it down. I've stewarded for judges who snort with disgust when a crowd bursts into their noise and comment "do they think that will influence who I chose?" Clearly they do think that. I've watched young dogs flatten in fear when the screaming cheers break out as someone else gaits around the ring. I've had my own inexperienced dogs cringe and plant their feet as crowds applaud with good intentions and scare the beejeezus out of my dog as a result. What did we do.....we taped the noise, we trained inside and played it back LOUD. We train with yapping dogs all around (try doing show training next to the flyball training!) We had people throw toys and squeeks and food all over the ring while we train. We NEVER discouraged a dog from barking, jumping or even laying on the ground and rolling over while waiting in line! (For those that are in my area, I'm sure they have seen my shepherd boy sit patiently ON my feet while we wait in the group line up, or watch my young GP girl roll around in the sun on her back in the grass) Yes I know that I have gotten a few 'looks' as Angel flails around, but she doesn't interfer with anyone else, doesn't go sniffing butts or anything like that....unlike what some dogs have attempted to do to us in the ring! She is in there to have fun, first and foremost. She has in the past decided she wanted to go see Dad and will stand and look back towards our set up and bark....big deal. Oh yes, and she constantly wags her tail....a lot....OMG....is that a distraction for the dog behind me? Silly dog...stop enjoying yourself and having fun....do NOT wag that tail, it bothers the dog behind you!!
  3. Sammy's (I've had them so I speak from experience) I swear are born knowing how to bark, howl and sing. I've had MANY that talk in the ring, and I never discouraged it...what I did, was shape it better.....use it to your advantage. How many times has the judge passed by and not really looked only to have me edge my sammy into a bark and grab their attention back. I really don't give a hoot if the other exhibitors are annoyed to be honest....given half a chance or more, they would do whatever they could to give them the edge in the ring and they would be lying to say they wouldn't do it. There is NO rule against barking dogs, in fact there isn't even a rule about running up the arse of another exhibitor, but that happens all the time and often by the ones that are the first to bitch about someone elses dog twitching the wrong way and allegedly distracting their precious fluffball. Sorry, I have no sympathy for those distracted...for me, it's a challenge to train my own to focus more on me better. If that means the occasional bark (or in the case of my GP's, bounce) so be it. These are NOT robot wind up toys...they are bloody dogs that should be having fun since we are asking them to do this...it's not their choice....is it? People need to get over themselves...it's ONLY a dog show! In 20 years, no one will remember or care....
  4. I agree however when we routinely get numbers back easily and without issues, but lately it seems as though somethings not up (can't blame Aus Post or the mail lady when the show secretary doesn't even put them in the mail!)
  5. I would have told her to get stuffed! These are the same complainers that bitch when their male is distracted because a bitch in season walked past the ring about a kilometer away! These may also also be the same people that arm themselves with a squeeky and use it non stop (to no response from their dog) and yet can't handle anyone else doing it. These are also the same people that often spend half an hour brushing their dog after the judge examines them on the table, gait it three or four steps, pick up the dog and walk back to their spot and will totally lose it if anyone comes within six feet of their dog claiming the little fluff doesn't 'do' big dogs, 'black dogs', 'white dogs' or 'small dogs'.
  6. Interesting to hear this...why I wonder have some not been mailed or received? One would think that the entire lot would have been posted at the same time? would be interested to see if in fact some were mailed at different times than others or some simply have been ignored. Funny thing is, the rules are the rules and we're seeing more and more of this sort of thing happening.
  7. Anyone that went....did you end up getting your numbers in the mail? This was the second show we have done in a row where the numbers did not arrive. Two weeks ago, we gathered them at the show secretary table as they were NEVER MAILED OUT!!! Once again, if we are expected to abide by the closing dates of shows...the secretary should be also following the rules about numbers being in the exhibitors hands a week prior to the show. Why are we wasting money on stamps if they aren't even going to bother to put them in the mail????
  8. Congrats to Ch.Firedragon Empyrean King CCD, ET (German Pinscher) for BOB today! Rex is a lovely boy and I know that Ms.MacBeth would have appreciated his soundness and true GP type!
  9. It's not...what is there only, is the name of the show and a phone number on the date in the index...that's it....it must be available on the online version? For some reason we can't access it and I asked mercedes to email me the copy (THANKS!) Not sure what's up with that as we have a membership to dogs NSW to GET the Gazette!
  10. Is this the famous (and overly focused) Lincoln from the Rally seminar?
  11. There is a HUGE difference between advertising a male in a magazine, stating wins and health clearances and that he is availble for breeding, compared to emailing people in that breed and stating matter of factly, breed to this dog and all your problems will be solved. I have no issues doing advertising for dogs, or reading it. I do take great offence at those that email or call me and insist I use their stud dog (and many can't take no for an answer!)
  12. I find it very tacky...similar to being a pimp I guess. I"ve had a number of stud dog owners over the years, try to entice me to use their boy. Two things....I know what I want in my breeding program long before the generation has been born and most times, the male in question, isn't worth even considering...great stud dogs sell themselves...the ones that need a pimp, are usually substandard or have dodgy owners I find.
  13. I'll tell you dedication. Setting up your Rally-O Trial course in the snow to practice how you will judge it! oh ick..yes I remember those times back living in the Great White North.
  14. I don't even try to justify to a potential owner what my costs are. To be honest, it's not their business what my food/vet/training/accomodation/breeding bills might be. I make it clear that I have one price..male/female, show or pet...all the same to me. I break down what they get for the price they pay and also tell them the range my breed can be expected to cost (although getting prices out of some breeders is like pulling teeth....maybe I missed that part about it being a government secret?) I also make it very clear that my breed isn't common, there aren't many litters about and that they will have to be patient and wait if they really want a puppy. If that doesn't scare them off in their need for an instant fur buddy, I usually get very sensible people that understand that we are not making money, we are barely breaking even if all goes well in a perfect situation. (I'm not sure I've had one of those in recent past memory!) As well, I do not make my purchasers pay for my decision to show, import or use frozen semen, as I often see happening. It's not their problem I made the decisions I did and as a result, upped my expenses. I don't expect those people to pay for my decisions. But then, I don't feel the need to advertise a litter as 'imported sire' or such and expect to rake in the big bucks. I breed for me first...the lucky few that get pups, benefit from my decisions but they don't have to fork up a pound of flesh or mortgage the house either, but at the same time, I do have to pay my bills when it comes to a litter, or at least put a dent in them.
  15. http://webs.dogs.net.au/kingvalleykennelclub/ King Valley Kennel Club is hosting a Rally Obedience match on Saturday September 11th to begin at 10am. Novice and Advanced courses will be offered and judged based on the proposed ANKC rules for this sport. Prizes will be offered for High in Class for each level. Cost for those interested is only $4 per course (either level) and we encourage you to bring multiple dogs to give this a go. All proceeds going to the KVKC for equipment purchase for further training (Agility-Flyball) Event will be held at the Myrtleford Showgrounds. For directions or more details on this event, please contact. Myrtleford is only a short distance away from Albury/Wodonga to the north, and Shepparton to the south. We are encouraging all those interested in this sport to come out and experience this amazing sport.
  16. That would have been a big shock to have the entire litter as long coats! Shows us just how sneeky genes can be, hiding away until just the right time to make an appearance, and yet, if you repeated that, you may have easily gotten totally different results.
  17. Well in truth, because you can't breed long hairs they just happen....we could be waiting a LONG time to get a sable long coat that's worthy of the show ring. I'm just hoping that every long coat doesn't come out of the closet simply to be shown because they can be....I hope people remember that quality and breed standard come first, and coat is second.
  18. These are variations of Sable and yes, they do....Black Sable and Wolf Grey or Grey Sable (we have our Bekki who is a grey sable) Black sables are VERY dark but have the grey undercoat (as compared to the fawn/tan or mahogany colours)
  19. We always make our dogs wait and haven't had any issues outside our enviroment. Perhaps it's because we set them up for their wait (crate or lined up outside) and they know the pattern of our actions so they know what's expected of them. I don't allow my dogs at shows to pick anything off the ground, but I will say, they only behave under those rules when on lead. Good that you trained your dog the same way as a big dog....I wish more toy/small breed people would realize they are DOGS first and then a specific breed second....it's why we seem to have so many out of control SWF's out there!
  20. It's Scandipet we're having issues with...but after yesterday we seem to be better on track. After a lot of misinformation on what form goes where...we're better sorted. With so little time to get things done since the pup can fly at 12 weeks, my head is spinning...I've barely recovered from the import from Canada! (which we got to visit yesterday in Quarantine!)
  21. Thanks everyone for the tips...yes vicious circle of not being able to do something before something else is done....I just found out I needed a vet certificate to apply for the permit, so that is off to Sweden (thank god for the internet!) and hopefully that will be done and back to attach to the online application. round and round we go!
  22. I'm bringing in a pup from Sweden and starting to run into issues. They have not applied for import permit but have said that is MY job (I just have completed the import from Canada where they took care of it all) They have also told me, that it's my job to reserve space in Quarantine for the pups arrival. That's not an issue as I"ll be there today although I can't seem to get confirmed dates of arrival at this point. I've sent them the funds they required and I don't seem to be getting much done from them. Can anyone advise me as to who I contact for WHAT import permit..I"m assuming its AQIS? How long does it take to process? I"m starting to get very pissed off here as I've paid good money for basically no services to date. The breeder has not been given the list of what she must do to prepare the pup for transport...and to top it off, the person we are dealing with, was on holidays last week and gave NO other person that could fill in the blanks with her absence! ARGH!!!!
  23. Would this mean then, that best male and best female are awarded but they would not be brought in for BOB? Am still not sure why they would be eligible for their class in group competition though....(the foreigner still scrunching eyebrows over the different system at times!)
