Sounds like it is vomit. Bile is always yellow and foamy when vomited. Could be because of the heat today. She could have also eaten something her body is rejecting and the only way out is to vomit it up. Also there has been a chucky bug going around in the last few weeks so she might have that. Just make sure she is kept cool and comfortable. I probably would wait till later in the night, around 8 or 9pm to give her something to eat, that's if she hasn't thrown up again. I would only give her oven baked chicken breast, not her normal food. I wouldn't be to worried unless she is constantly throwing up. If it's just once or twice she should be fine but if it goes on all day and night I would take her to the vets tomorrow.

Homeopathic Vaccines
puggy_puggy replied to First Time Puppy Owner's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm not sure - how would you know?!?! I mean if this helps it came up a few days later and stuck around for a week and a half to two. The lump is quite a common reaction to vaccination. I really wouldn't be that worried about it. Maybe get your vet to give the vaccination in the rump instead of the neck. If you massage the lump it should go away more quickly. You could also get the vet to give your dog an antihistamine injection 10 minutes or so before the vaccination. I always get this done with the pugs. -
Yes don't you just love it when they spew on the carpet. Somehow I have trained myself to awake from deep sleeps when a pug starts to do throwing up noises, they sleep in bed with me, and I am able to rush them from my bed to the bathroom in time to save the carpet most of the time. Sounds like his body isn't digesting the actual bone fragments. What happens sometimes with the pugs. I don't take much notice because it doesn't happen that often here and as I said I figure they can't digest it so they have to get it out of their system. Is it happening with every bone you give him?
-
Poor boy. As lucknow said it seems you are doing everything you can. Keep him confined to the spot you have him in. After the surgery he will also need to be confined for two weeks or more. It might be useful to invest in a crate or puppy pen to keep him in during this time. The short sharp breathing is probably due to the pain he is going through. Is he desexed? If not you might as well get him done when he goes under for his op. Goodluck.

It does sound like they are to fatty for him. Occasionally the pugs with have a mini spew, after having a bone or chicken neck, and bring up a little bit of bile and a bit of bone. I figure their bodies haven't been able to break down that bit of bone so are rejecting it and that's the quickest way they can get it out. My boy pug used to get sick from pigs ears beacause they are very high in fat. Is he throwing up the whole chicken neck? Perhaps he is not chewing properly and the body can't cope with trying to digest that the whole thing at once. I usually cut some of the fat off the chicken necks I give to the pugs.

I usually use Panalog for yucky puggy nose rolls or groin itches. Have also used it on irritated suture stitches sites after eyelid surgery. Have been told it can also be used to put in the eyes if they have been injured untill you get to the vets and irritated vulvas. Not sure about using it on interdigital cysts. The times that the pugs have had one I just bathed it, soaked the foot in an chinese take away container, every day in warm water and weakened dettol and put some betadine on it afterwards. They take about a week to dissappear. You could also try Physohex (human acne face wash) or salt water. The dogs have usually helped the healing process along by licking it. Are the cyst occuring regularily?

Strange. So this was your dogs yearly vaccination? Should just be a straight out C5. That is the most normal vaccination to give. Really does seem like the vet is treating your dog as an unvaccinated one and following the puppies vaccination schedule. I know that when I have rescues that the vet usually treats them like they haven't ever been vaccinated or haven't for a long time, unless we know the dogs history. The same schedule as puppies 2nd and 3rd vaccinations. Puppies vaccination schedule: 6-8 weeks C3 10 weeks C5 12 weeks Kennel Cough booster (C5)
-
I am pretty sure that it is a prescription drug but if you know your vet well then you should have no problems with getting it without an appointment. What are you wanting to use it for?
-
Sure it was a C5 he was given? Sounds more like he had a C3. What does it say on his vaccination card. Sounds more like the vet has treated him as a dog that has never been vaccinated before and has given him a puppy vaccination schedule. They start off with giving a C3 then a few weeks later they will give a C5.

Yep have bought Panalog from vets for years. Fantastic all round product.

Dogs Ageing Before Being Really Old
puggy_puggy replied to pawsaroundoz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Is Carlin a rescue? What sort of diet is he on? What is wrong with his eyes? Could they be operated on? -
Yep totally agree. My vet said Winston probably would have died if he hasn't of been vaccinated.
-
I think that Cortisone can stop the healing process so this could be a reason why it hasn't healed. Also might be the type of diet he is on. Try some baby's Curash powder (contains zinc which is helpful with healing) and when it has dried up apply the curash cream.

As Tess said their are lots of different strains of KC. I think if your dog is not vaccinated they would have a far more severe case of the cough then if it is. Kids cough medicine is the go but if the coughing down't seem to be getting better you may need to get your dog an antibiotic injection and a course of tablets from the vets. For the eyes cammomile tea to bath them with. Hope your fur kids are better soon. I can remember when Winston picked up KC he was so sick his tail wouldn't curl. It was such a sad sight. I had to end up taking him to the vets for an injection.

Mine have always had C5.

Yep absolutley fine. It's better to overworm then under worm.

Sprained Or Fractured Little Toe!
puggy_puggy replied to beagle babies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think the only choice you have is to either crate him or have him in a small puppy pen. If he has infact fractured or sprained his toe it is only going to heal if you stop him from running around on it and the only way to do that is to confined your dog for at least a week or more. This means being crated/penned all the time and only allowed out to the toilet on a lead. And all the time means all the time. It may seem cruel but it would be worse if he continued to exercise on his toe. Have his crate or pen near you and he will soon get used to it. -
No offence meant, but that's rubbish. I have three entire males here and they don't mark and hump everything, neither do they jump fences to find females, really the myths that go around about entire dogs astound me. I wouldn't desex a large breed male until it was at least a year old especially if you're intending to do dog sports. No offence taken but my experience with undesexed male pugs and pug x's is that that's what they do. I guess it might be different in different breeds. And I suppose you are less likely to have a Dobe or larger type breed in a group playdate situation, like Pugwood, where it has the chance to be off lead and a chance to try and hump others. I don't believe that undesexed males try to jump fences to find females. Any undesexed rescue male that I have had here has been a humpa maniac and has felt the need to mark. A month or so after thier desexing they have no humping urges. I didn't get my boy done till he was 1 and 1/2 years old and he would hump toys and hump any other pug he could find when we went on playdates. When I go to pug meetups and their is an undesexed male pug they are the ones that are always humping anything they can. Rather annoying and not funny. I guess another concern of mine is that the longer people leave thier pet dogs to be desexed the less likely thay are to do it and the more likey they are to BYB. I suppose I am coming from a rescue point of view.

Curash (baby's bottom powder) should do the trick. I think use the powder till the sore is dried out and scabby and then you can use the cream.

As others have said you have to completly eliminate fleas from your dogs environment. You could use Capstar tablets. Also I read in another post that fleas can build up an immunity to one product so you might wish to also apply some other sort of spot on flea product as well as the Revolution untill you have the fleas beaten. I think that alot of people in NSW and QLD are having problems with fleas at the moment. I think that people are being reccomended to use flea products like Advantix every 2 weeks.
-
I would desex between 6 and 8 months. Don't wait till he is 18 months as his hormones will have kicked in and he will be marking everything and wanting to hump everything.

Very interesting. Do you have a link or the book this info is from? Sure L. David Mech - Wolves: Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation. Mech is one of the world's leading wolf biologists I have this quote....hope it's ok to post it. It's from the book but can't remember which website. ""Wolves usually tear into the body cavity of large prey and...consume the larger internal organs, such as lungs, heart, and liver. The large rumen [, which is one of the main stomach chambers in large ruminant herbivores,]...is usually punctured during removal and its contents spilled. The vegetation in the intestinal tract is of no interest to the wolves, but the stomach lining and intestinal wall are consumed, and their contents further strewn about the kill site." (pg.123, emphasis added) "To grow and maintain their own bodies, wolves need to ingest all the major parts of their herbivorous prey, except the plants in the digestive system." (pg.124, emphasis added). " There goes my whole BARF feeding out the window and the 3 or so hours I spent blending up a big bucket of veggie & fruit slops yesterday.

Can Cat Poo Make A Dog Sick?
puggy_puggy replied to Roxy Lady's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Where do you live? I am pretty sure there has been a bug going around. I had 5 of 6 pugs, that I had here over the weekend, throwing up. Starting early Sunday morning, 2am till 10am. The first one to throw up was the worst doing so 5 or 6 times but the others only had 1 or 2 spews. -
Thanks IDWT. I don't give zinc to my fur kids but I know that some people suggest it as a suppliment sometimes.

Can Cat Poo Make A Dog Sick?

All I can say is ewwwwww and I am glad I don't have cats. The pugs do find possum poo quite a treat though. The think it's little treaties to eat.
