My Friend Can't Stand Fresh Meat
puggy_puggy replied to evamaria's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't eat red meat myself and wont cook it for anyone, use fry pans that it has been cooked in, eat anything that has been touching it, wash dishes that it has been on.. ok you get my nutty problem. Anyway after changing over to a full BARF diet for my dogs I actually have become fantastic with having to handle meat. My trick is that I always use disposable gloves when I have to handle it and wash my hands with lots of hand wash afterwards (yes I am a nutter). I buy meat in bulk and freeze it up in daily portions. With the chicken necks I use my disposable gloves when I chop them up. So maybe pre package your meats and other food. And send this along with a big packet of disposable rubber gloves and handwash. If your friend doesn't have room for two months supply then maybe you can store some in your freezer and she can come over and grab it half way through your dogs stay. -
Is It Safe To Feed This To My Dog?
puggy_puggy replied to Michelleva's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep NO cooked bones. Marrow out of it would be fine but it is pretty strong so you could end up with a dog with an upset stomach. -
Can you post a photo?

Hematoma?

Don't feel to bad about her teeth as unless you really inspect then you can't really tell what is going on apart from the bad breath.

9 Day Old Pup With Yucky Eye
puggy_puggy replied to neorotic's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would get some antibiotics from the vets and also do the bathing with tea bags. -
Poor baby. Lots of healing vibes being sent his way. Was his ear full of gunk? I guess I am lucky with pugs as they don't have much hair in or on their ears and they are pretty good with letting me clean them, even the rescues.

Vibes for Coco. She will feel so much better after everything is done. Was she a rescue?

I think your best bet would be to find a specalist. The prices that your vet has quoted seem pretty normal for that operation.

WTF?

It is not advisable for puppies to go out of their owners house and yard till they have had their 16 week vaccination. I am suprised that wherever you bought her did not inform you of this.

Sounds like Zero has an injury that has become infected rather then a typical ear infection. Do you have other dogs that might have nipped his ear? Maybe he has ear mites and has been scratching at his ears because of them.

Maybe some milk in the water. As poodlefan suggest if all else fails a big syringe down his throat. Do you have any idea of what could be wrong with him?

Did the same with my boy a few weeks ago. Was pretty sure it wasn't anything but a fatty lump but I couldn't stop worrying untill I had it checked out.

I leave the skin on but take the seeds out. It all goes through the food processor and into the BARF veggie slops.

"thorpy" The Swimmer Poodle

Great news. -
I suppose if you don't know what you are doing then maybe it's not a good idea but dogs do have a longer ear canals then humans. I had a foster at the vets recently and the vet shoved this massive cotton bud much deeper down the fosters ear then I ever would.

Mmmm the red sounds more like blood. Usually infections are a gunky browny colour. I would clean it out. Try a cotton bud to see if you can get any muck out. Just watch to see if it is annoying him.

I would say ditch the paper as she is probably getting confused about being able to toilet inside. Take her outside after she has had a play, sleep, meal etc. Tell her to 'go to the toilet' when she is outside. Wait till she actually goes even if it takes ages. While she is going tell her 'go to the toilet, good girl' and then reward her with a treat when she gets back inside. Is there any way that you can block off the carpeted area of your house so that she can't get in there whilst she isn't supervised? I currently have a foster girl who is 15 months and feral, lived outside in a cage so she knows nothing. The two pups that I am also fostering, who are 3 months, are basically toilet trained now and know what 'go to the toilet' means whn they are taken outside. This has taken about a month. Where as the older girl, who has just arrived, will take a while to retrain.

Rescues that I have fostered that have never worn collars hate them at first and scratch all the time. I am thinking that it is your boys harness that is upsetting him.

Sorry not near South Melbourne. My vet is pretty good when it comes to the BARF diet but one of the vet nurses that works there is horrified that I feed it. When I recently took in rescue pups I am fostering and explained the BARF diet I feed she immediatley said I needed to stop that and get them onto a good dry food. She didn't even know what a BARF diet was till I explained. I was like um ok 'rolling eyes'. My vet really said nothing other then I could add some calcium powder to their food as one pup had a slight knuckling problem. The same vet nurse also doesn't believe me when I have said that since I switched from a dry food diet to a BARF diet my pug boys skin issues have gone away.

I would take her to a groomer as well. They will be able to clip back her coat and work on her nails. It may not be possible to cut her nails back to a reasonable length straight away but if they are worked on over a few weeks little by little they should be ok. Is she microchipped? If not then get it done and her put in your name.

Proheart 6 - Heartworm Injection
puggy_puggy replied to Cavandra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have heard of pugs having bad reactions to the heartworm vaccinations so have never thought about giving it to my fur kids. Pugs can have anaphylactic reactions to normal vaccinations so why inject them with something else that is unnesessary. I must have a good vet as he said it was a far more expensive option then the monthly applications.
