Trish you could substitute the chicken necks for the chicken puppy mince that a lot of places sell. It is basically minced up chicken frames. The 14 week old pug pups I have work their way through little lamb bones with no problems so maybe lookout for the offcut pieces of bone, that are about a finger size in length, at the butchers as well. My feeding is for pugs so if you have different sized dogs then you probably will have to vary the portions.

Should Food Be Avaliable All The Time?
puggy_puggy replied to charlies_mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If you have more then one dog I would say no to leaving the food out all the time because you don't know who's eating what. If I left food out my puggies would be little piggies. -
Pill Or Capsule Sizes For Small Dogs?

What about using Flaxseed oil? -
This is what I do....... BARF SLOPS INGREDIENTS & METHOD Things I always include: - container of alfala spouts - bunch of spinach (roots cut off) - 1 to 2 green capsicums (stalk cut off & seeds out) - 1 to 2 red caspsicums (stalk cut off & seeds removed) - bag of carrots - bunch of celary - 4 zuccinis - 3 to 4 oranges (peeled) - 1 pumpkin (seeds removed) - 2 to 4 apples (pips taken out) - 2 to 4 bannanas (peeled) - 8 to 10 eggs (whole including shell) - flaxseed oil (approx 250mL) - kelp (approx 100g) What else you can put in: - bunch of silverbeet - turnip - squash - sweet potato - 2 to 4 pears - half to 1 pinapple - brussel sprouts - brocoli - cauliflower - bag of beans - Apple Cider Vinegar - Vitamin C Chop up then process up in blender/food processor so that things turn to slops. Put each blender batch into a big bucket. Usually leave the eggs & flaxseed oil for things that don't blend very well like the pumpkin and carrots. Ingredients should fill up a bucket. Mix bucket with big ladel till all mixed through then put into take away containers & freeze untill needed. BARF FEEDING ROUTINE MONDAY Chicken Necks Slops TUESDAY Fish Slops WEDNESDAY Chicken Necks Yoghurt Slops THURSDAY Kangaroo Slops FRIDAY Chicken Necks Offal Slops SATURDAY Beef or Lamb Slops SUNDAY Beef or Lamb or Kangaroo Slops & A BONE EACH AT LEAST TWICE A WEEK (Preferably the non chicken neck days) BARF MENU EXPLAINATION - *Veggie Slops – 2 to 3 tablespoons each *Meat – work out approx 2% to 3% of your dogs body weight and then work out approx 60% of that amount and this will give you the amount to feed (preferably diced/chunks/stir fry strips but can be sometimes minced) *Chicken necks – 3 to 4 per dog depending on the size of the necks. I cut up the chicken necks into bite sized pieces about the size of half your index finger. *Yoghurt (once a week) – 2 to 3 tablespoons each. Natural yoghurt and full fat. *Offal (once a week) – lambs kidney, sheep’s kidney, tongue, brain etc. The equivalent of a lamb’s kidney for each dog cut up into small pieces. *Fish (once a week) – sardine can divided between the two dogs, tuna can divided between the two dogs or if they are lucky a piece of fresh fish each. *Bones (at least twice a week) - (vary between Lamb (ribs/lamb flaps, backbones) Beef & Kangaroo Tail) Some dogs can not stomach kangaroo as it is very rich. So see how they go with it and if they are unable to eat it then substitute it for another meat. Kangaroo I get from a pet produce store. Chicken necks from either a chicken shop or the supermarket. Offal from the butcher. Bones from the butcher. I will buy the meat, chicken necks, yoghurt and offal in large quantities and divide it up into separate meal portions and freeze. The night before that ingredient is to be eaten I will take the portion out of the freezer to defrost. Chicken necks, meat and offal I freeze in the snap lock freezer bags and the yoghurt in little tubs. Veggie slops I make up in big batches and freeze in Chinese takeaway food containers.

Could be part of KC. Picked a boy up from the pound and had him at my place for a few hours. A week and a half later the pups, I have, got the sneezes with only a little bit of clear snot and my girl got the sneezes and a snotty nose.

The pugs love apple and every other sort of fruit. As far as I know grapes are the only fruit to stay away from. I think we need a photo of your Kelpie and her best friend the bunny rabbit. -

Leave your partner and get another dog. I think that it is fine that he doesn't pay for vet bills and food etc but seeing that you pay half the rent for the house you should have a say in what goes on in the house. If you want the dog inside then you should be allowed to have the dog inside. If you want it up on the couch you should be allowed to have it up on the couch. Maybe if you didn't contribute to the house rent then it might be fine for your partner to set the house rules but you do so you should have a say in things.

How To Properly Bathe Your Dog

I bath my pugs in warm water every week and they don't have a problem. -
What is 'strangles'?

I don't know about the to much calcium part but I'm thinking that it would be better to vary the bones and meat then just to have chicken all the time. Being large breed pups they should easily cope with lamb bones. Maybe give lamb bones in the morning for half the week and chicken bones for the other half. Also I would be varying the evening meal between the chicken mince and other things like kangaroo and beef.

I am sure she will be fine. She has had a big operation and she is a little dog. GA's can knock them around a bit. I've only experienced desexing ops and eye ops with the dogs I have had but with some of the bitches that have been desexed it takes them a few days to return to normal. You would probably have to syringe the water down the throat rather then just in her mouth. If she hasn't had a big drink by tomorrow afternoon then I would be contacting the vets. But I am sure she will come good.

Will Kennel Cough Affect Bitches Pregnancy
puggy_puggy replied to staffloch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
KC is actually made up of a few different things and if the dog gets all of them then it can be quite nasty. I was lucky this time that my girl and the foster pups only got the nose snot so didn't require any meds. But when my pug boy was under a year he got KC and it was full blown coughing, snotting and hacking. Basically it turned into pneumonia and he was so sick he couldn't curl his little tail up, now a pug that can't curl their tail is a sorry sight. He had to have some antibiotics. Please keep an eye on your fur kids and if the coughing and snotting gets to much they might need some antibiotics. -
The morphine might have constipated her. Sounds like she had a very big operation so I would probably expect her to still be effect by it all. What sort of food do you feed? If it's dried stuff maybe soak it in water to up her water intake. You could also give her some yoghurt.

Will Kennel Cough Affect Bitches Pregnancy
puggy_puggy replied to staffloch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I really don't know if it would affect the pregancy. Is there any way that she can go and stay somewhere else for a while? I picked a boy up from the pound and had him here for a few hours before he went to another foster career about a month ago. He showed no signs of KC at my place but came down with it in his new home a few days later then one of the foster careers two dogs came down with it a few days later, he had a cold and some coughing but her other dog really only had a bit of a snotty nose. About a week and a half after the pound boy had been here the foster pups I have got snotty noses and my girl got a cold and snotty nose, my boy got nothing. Anyway the point to my story is that some dogs will get it, some will only get some of it some dogs wont get it. The dogs that got symptoms were my girl that is due for her vaccination next month, the other foster careers boy who is due for his vacaccination in a few weeks and the pups that had only had their first vaccination. -
Could it be a food allergy rather then a grass allergy? What are you feeding her? Alot of dogs are allergic to dry food. Maybe changing her diet to BARF or RAW diet would be the trick. How old is she? Try giving her a claratyne tablet (the human antihistamine)

Can you seperate them? What about a spray water bottle and spraying Angel everytime she starts licking? Maybe that woundgard stuff applied on Trixie's chin?

Hormonal Issues With A Spayed Bitch?
puggy_puggy replied to baileyb's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm thinking it's just because she is a bitch and she is telling him that she really is the boss. Nothing to do with her being desexed or not desexed. -
A bed in a puppy pen would be a good idea.

Some sort of chihuahua X. Maybe a Pom X. What happend to their mother that they have left her at 5 weeks old? It is not reccomended that pups leave their mums till they are at least 8 weeks old.

Poor poppet. My puggy boy would looooove to clean her ear. He just loves ears that are yucky.
