  1. Specalist has seen her and he wasn't going to take the cast off untill I hinted that he really should. He actually didn't think it smelt so bad. It took 3 of us to hold her still to get a sedative injection into her. Turns out that the cast was rubbing on her elbow and where a pin was inserted, which is what I thought was happening. I think that a small abscess drained itself as it stunk more when we took the bandages off the cast then when we opened the cast up itself. Apart from a little rubbing the leg is healthy. The incision, where the operation was performed has healed up nicely. Poppy had her leg cleaned, rebandaged and the front of the cast put back on. She is still groggy but I bet back to screaming to be out of her crate agian tomorrow.
  2. I have given Metacam and Clavulox at the same time.
  3. How fatty were the chicken wings and chicken necks? How many did you give at a time? Did the lamb off cuts contain any bone or were they just fat and meat? Don't feed rice. Not needed in a dogs diet.
  4. I have seen EP go straight through a dog. The stools were firm but there where soooooo many of them.
  5. Rub it in well and it only leaves a slight whiteish look to the skin. Easy to clean off. Your boy shouldn't be licking down here anyway should he? I would suggest an elizabethan collar if he is.
  6. Block the carpeted areas off untill he can be trusted.
  7. rosylea can you type out exaclty what you feed every day.
  8. Poppy's cast has gone stinky She has an appointment with her specalist this afternoon. Pretty sure the cast will have to be cut off. I am praying that it is only her elbow that has rubbed on the cast and caused a sore. I have poked cotton buds into the cast and the elbow area is where a bit of wetness and the stink is. Everywhere else the cotton bud comes out clean. She is still using her leg and isn't running a temprature.
  9. Personally I would be getting xrays or at least seen by a vet before having anything manipulated. You could do more harm then good if she has a damaged disc in her back. Can you find any sore spots along her spine? Does she yelp or turn to look at her back foot if you pinch between the toes?
  10. What do you want them for? I either use normal unscented baby ones or wet cotton woll pads to do the pugs nose rolls or clean boogies from their eyes.
  11. Some pups/dogs do make vicious sounds when they are actually just playing. Your older dog will either tell the pup off or remove itself from the pups reach if it doesn't like what the pup is doing.
  12. That's not early desexing. I think that KitKat is reffering to early desexing as around 8 weeks (2 months).
  13. Weight bearing bones are to hard for the majority of dogs to consume totally. Doesn't do thier teeth any good either. Most likely why he was burying his bones because they were to hard to eat for him. Get some lamb flaps (ribs), lamb necks, lamb backs, turkey necks and kangaroo tails. Yes ther is a certain time that it takes th ebody to detox and recover.
  14. So the calcifications are linked to the spine collapsing? How interesting that they come and go. I guess it would throw a spanner in the works of some breeders if they had to xray every dog before breeding with them. And because the calcifications only appear after 18 months that would mean that they couldn't breed before then. What age can hip scores be done? I'm pretty sure that Hemi can be spotted pretty easily just with a normal back xray but it's not something that is tested for by breeders. The xrays usually occur when someones pup starts to lose function in their back legs. I've personally seen enough pugs with hemi to say that it is not exaclty a rare condition.
  15. Go for the zinc oxide (nappy rash cream). Should dry everything up nicely. I am currently using it to stop Poppy's cast rubbing on her leg and it is working a treat.
  16. Have you had a vet look at her? I would be very much suspecting her spine.
  17. Great work 'longdogs'. What exaclty will they be looking for in the xrays? In pugs there is a genetic condition called hemivertibra which causes varying degrees of paralysis of the hind quaters. It's not xrayed for.
  18. Nope. Simply overfeeding can cause knuckling. The other cause is the calcium & phosphrus levels being out of whack.
  19. Vets associated with pounds and shelters do them every day. So places like the RSPCA and Animal Welfare Leagues would be a good place to start. You could also maybe contact some of the private rescue groups and see who they use for their young ones.
  20. Carrots and celary are good alternative treats that don't contain many calories. As others have said if your dog has leg problems it needs to be skinny.
  21. What sort of bones are you feeding? I am presuming that they are to hard for him to totally munch up. Stick to non weightbearing bones.
  22. Might need the nail trimmed back as far as possible. Is the nail actually lose from the nail bed? Might need pulling out.
  23. Raw is best! Don't cook your dogs meat and veggies feed them raw.
