  1. No cateracts there. Cateracts are usually an older dog problem. If I was to see cloudy spots in a puppies eye I would be more concerned about injuries and ulcers.
  2. She probably hasn't eaten much due to also still being effected by the GA. She would have been given a long acting antibiotic injection at the vets so it will do no harm to start her pills tomorrow. And yes they also get a long acting pain killing injection at the vets. Mouths have a very rich blood supply and heal quickly. Don't be to worried about how she is right now I am sure after a sleep she will be much better. And getting rid of those rotting teeth will make her feel wonderful. Soft food for the first few days then basically back to her normal food. See how she goes with chicken necks and other soft bones like lamb ribs. You might be quite suprised. Some dogs mouths have teeth that are so squashed that they can not self clean, so don't feel like a bad mum. If you are able to get in there with a finger brush or baby's toothbrush then give them a weekly clean.
  3. I was under the impression that most rescue groups test for heartworm before rehoming. Tests are not that expensive so if he hasn't been done then you might like to get it done yourself for piece of mind. I am pretty sure that if a dog does have heartworm then products like Advocate & Revolution are one method of treating it. These products do not eliminate the heartworm quickly like other treatments do.
  4. If your feeding a BARF diet to a senior then it's more then likely you would just cut down the amount of food being fed. This would be because your senior pet was doing less exercise. But really with BARF diet you adjust the amount to suit your dog no matter what age it is.
  5. Sorry yes these people might be concerned by the damage they have already done. But if they were really good people they would have desexed their own two dogs and not BYB. I do hope thye are in the process of desexing their dogs right now so that they do not bring any more pups into this world with these genetic conditions. Peibe Baby I do hope that you desex your puppy when he is old enough and don't breed with him. If you do choose to breed in the future I hope you join your states Canine Council, become a registered breeder, purchase registered dogs that are fine examples of their breed, put the time and effort into showing them, research their genetic history and breed lines and thne only breed to better the Shar Pei breed. It's sad that you probably thought you were saving a few dollars by buying a pup from a BYB rather then a registered breeder and now in the long run it has cost you a whole lot more. I'm glad your pup is getting the medical attention he needs.
  6. Does it smell fishy? This is a normal smell when the anal glands express themselves. Get your vet to have a look and consider changing his diet if you don't feed bones and fiber.
  7. I doubt it when it says both dogs are entire. Must have gotten the sisters sex mixed up with her dogs sex. Seriously if I have had humpy pugs around here it is not tolerated one little bit. I can't stand that behaviour.
  8. What your puppy has is a genetic condition that is know in Shar Pei's. If you sign up with a pet insurance company you have to have a vet do a full medical on your dog and sign forms. A vet is not going to ignore your puppies eye problem a write down lies on the insurance forms saying that it has nothing wrong.
  9. This lastest outbreak of Swine Flu is actually a combination of pig, human and bird flu which somehow combined together in pigs.
  10. Was that for the 3 disease or just 2? I think that you will find that it is about $65 for 2 of them then the 3rd bumps it up to about $160.
  11. Unqualified people can not firstly purchase the vaccination and secondly give the vaccinations. My vet charges $75 for vacc and check up. This is about the norm for city vets. Titre testing would be about $160.
  12. It's dominance. Your husband needs to take control of the situation instead of making it into a joke. Get both of your dogs desexed!!!! Correct your dogs behaviour. I sure hope your sisters dog is not on heat.
  13. Eye Tacking and Entropian Surgery are both for genetic conditions which pet insurance will not cover. I feel sorry for your pup being bred by someone who obviously doesn't care about the breed and just the money. No ethical breeder will let a puppy go to a new home before it is 8 weeks old. And it is within the code of conduct of registered breeders that this does not happen. Get a puppy pen that you can keep him safe in whilst you are not at home. You may also look into scent training which people do for blind dogs. Entropion surgery is fairly simple it's the tacking that is harder.
  14. Take home pain meds are usually not necessary. Have had many bitches desexed and the only one that was given take home pain meds had just come off heat so the operation was more traumatic then a normal spay.
  15. They can take at least two weeks to totally disappear. As long as it is slowly going down I would not worry.
  16. How could someone think their pup was 3 months when it was really 6 months?
  17. Hope she is better this afternoon. Could have been that something bit her.
  18. What are his toys made of? Could he be allergic to them? Could he have eaten some kind of plant in the garden?
  19. As Miranda said she will be groggy when you bring her home in the late afternoon/evening. Give her a small meal of cooked chicken breast late in the evening and try to get her to have a drink of water, if she does't don't freak out. She will have slept the drugs off by the next day and should be basically back to normal in the morning. Try to keep her quiet whilst her stitches are in. And no bathing or getting them wet!. If you don't keep her quiet enough you might notice along the suture site go a bit hard and lumpy because of swelling. Also I have found that by the end of the two weeks the actual suture incision sights will get a bit inflamed basically because the body starts to reject them and possibly because a little bit of bacteria gets into them. This goes away within a day or so after the sutures are removed.
  20. Zinc Oxide (which Curash is) powder to dry it out and then when it is dry Zinc Oxide cream to finish healing it.
  21. My personal favourite Shampoo is Evening Primrose Oil Shampoo, which doesn't need a conditioner and is specifically made for itchie dogs. I have tried many over the years and when I ran out of my first bottle of the EPO I again tried a few different products but none were as good as the EPO. EPO Shampoo
  22. So am I. I don't think I could have coped with the smell in bed again tonight.
  23. Sounds like the bones were to hard for her to digest, let alone for her teeth to get through. Stick non weigh bearing softer bones like lamb, turkey, chicken and kangaroo. Try some lamb ribs (lamb flaps).
