Vibes for sweep. The prednisalone is more then likely to be reason why he was drinking so much water. Does the vet think it could have caused damage to his liver as well?

Help! My 4mo's Puppy Swallowed 2 Lamb Ribs!
puggy_puggy replied to ww_1416's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
All bones and meat and vegtables should be fed raw. I would be very worried if you had cooked them. Cooked bones are no good for dogs. Lamb ribs/flabs are great bones to feed. They are soft so easily chewed and easily digested. Your puppy should be fine. If he wasn't he would be trying to gag the bone back up. Many people feed puppies bones from a very young age. -
Whatever food you feed it's about the quantity. I have found that some suppliers have fattier chicken necks thne others. Generally I find that Lennards are pretty good. How much should Boonie weigh? Is she an active dog? If you were feeding only raw food and working on 2% then really she should only be getting 70grams a day. My pugs, 6 years & 8 years and love to lay around, get only approx 100 to 150grams a day.

Ahh the poos sound pretty normal then & shantiah could have solved your crying mystery.

I really don't have any suggestions about Colitis but with the kangaroo some dogs can find it to rich. Was it only kangaroo that you were feeding and how much?

1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) Owner, Pug Rescue Foster Mum & Pug Nanny 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? As above. First and formost they were bred to be companion dogs. 3. How common is it in Australia? Quite common. There are far to many people and companies breeding pugs to make money rather then to improve the breed. 4. What is the average lifespan? 12 to 14 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Very loving and forgiving. Full of spunk and happiness. Always clowning around and showing off. Very clever but can be very stubborn as well. Love to snuggle up next to their humans or with thier other pug buddies. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? Pugs are generally happy to do what you do. If you are sick in bed then they will snuggle with you. If you want to go walking they love to join you. My two will quite easily go for a 40 minute walk. 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Yes as long as they want a companion dog who is inside with the family. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Pugs are companion dogs so are not ment to be left alone for long periods. Yes single pugs cope but pugs love other pugs whether it is to play and run with or snuggle up together. I feel sorry for pugs that don't have a pug buddy or at least another dog buddy. 9. How much grooming is required? Pugs shed heaps and heaps of hair. You will find it everywhere but soon get over the fact that your latest fashion item is pug hair. Mine get bathed and brushed once a week. The longest I leave bathing would be two weeks. 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? I would say generally no. My pugs are very good and very gentle around small children and will tolerate quite alot of poking and proding. They are also great around my wheelchair bound friend. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? I think the most common heriditary problem is entropion and the resulting pigmentary keratitis. This can send pugs blind and I think is far to accepted as just something that happens by many breeders. If possible check both the mother and fathers eyes to see if thye are clear. Luxating Patellas is another problem that crops up. Ask to see the mother and father walk and run and look out for them bunny hopping. Hemivertibrae, hip displaysia & elongated soft pallet are other genetic conditions that I have also come across personally. 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) At the moment there are not health tests that pug breeders need to do. Make sure the breeder is registered and fully involved in the pug world community. Your puppy should also be registered with pedigree papers.

Help....whippet Having Phantom Pregnancy
puggy_puggy replied to ~Debs~'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I can recall seeing on tv how some dogs or cats who have phantoms will collect things like shoes and toys and treat them like they are their puppies. Carrying them around, guarding them, cleaning them etc. I wonder if this behaviour is allowed if it helps the bitch or makes things worse. -
Strange. Is he crying in excitment when he is eating the ecopet? What exaclty is ecopet? Processed meat?

How is he if you have him on a lead?

Has Your Dog Ever Choked On A Raw Bone?
puggy_puggy replied to puppymum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Really depends on what you mean by choked. The pugs do this as well. Yes I supervise but with lamb ribs they always are able to use their natural gag reflex to bring back up an pieces that are to big. If they do this several times with the one piece I will take it off them. I chop up chicken necks and don't feed chicken wings any more as my girl was as good as dead from having one of them caught in her throat. She had stopped breathing, tounge went blue and pupils were dilated. It took me at least 7 minutes of mouth to snout and performing the hymlic maneuver to dislodge the blockage and get her breathing by herself again. Very scary but yes I still feed bones but only certain sorts. -
Bridgie I know your very upset but if it helps at all I can tell you that when you give your boy his wings you will find it to be a very peacefull. They know when it's time for them to go and he will thankyou for it.

Does the eye look injured? Is he squinting? Small scratches/injuries can be hard to see with the naked eye and by an person who doesn't know what they are looking for. These small scratches can very quickly lead to ulcers which cause lots of damage. Have you flushed the eye with a saline solution? If the dog continues to show discomfort I would be off to the vets. Puppies that are not fully vaccinated should not really be running around in a place that dogs of unknown vaccination histories are and have been.

It all depends on what food you are feeding. And even then you adjust any diet you are feeding to suit your dog. If it is looking to skinny you feed a bit more if it is looking to fat you feed less.
-
As becks said. Soft food for the first few days then usually back to normal. Maybe wet the dry food and get some minced chicken carcuss. The mouth has a great blood supply so heals very quickly.

Have you contacted your breeder for some guidance? That would be the best place to start. Have you signed up as a member of Dogs Victoria (Victorina Canine Association)? As you need to be a member to exhibit your dog. They also run show training classes. I can't remember the details but if you contact them or have a search around their website you will find what you are looking for. Dogs Vic Website

Can you explain this comment? How will a diet lacking consumable bone cause growth deformities? If you feed meat (phosphorus) without the correct amount of bone (calcium) you will end up with 'knuckling over' deformities. Some examples of Knuckling Thanks! Explains why it is a good idea to feed a super premium dry food to a puppy so as to maintain the correct ratios and then introduce a raw diet when a bit older. If you do it correctly then you can feed raw from the time pups are weaned. It's not that hard really.

I have found that most vets will not say to an owner that they must give their dog wings. They usually leave it up to the owner to make the choice.

If he can't happily go about his own buisness and trot around the house or garden or come up to you for a pat I would let him go.

How much exaclty is she feeding? If the pups are being a fed a proper BARF diet then each should be 10% of their weight a day over three meals. I do hope the chicken mince is actually minced chicken carcusses otherwise if the pups are being fed meat without consumable bone they will have growth deformities.
-
Get rid of the treats with the flour. Dried liver and raw veggies and fruit are the treats of choice here. Some dogs can be allergic to beef. How long has she been on the BARF diet?
-
I would also be looking at what you feed if your dog is having yeast infections.

I would be watching for a sore bloated/hard stomach & blood in his faeces as well as the other signs metioned. -
He should be fine under the GA at the age of 9. I'm sure he will thankyou when he has a mouth full of clean teeth.
