  1. There are quite a few threads on TPLO surgery on DOL if you do a search. Wing Tip Wong is a great specalist surgeon and based at Melbourne Uni's Werribee campus.
  2. Oh no that is terrible Elfin. Vibes for your little guy. I palatively cared for a 6 year old puggy that had stomach lymphoma. His owners were given the choice of chemo but were told it would not prolong his life greatly so they went with prednisalone and palative care. I believe he lived for 4 to 5 months after final prognosis. Do your own research on foods and supplements. You will find that most recommend a natural diet with omega supplements.
  3. Yes the human form is Mobic but I am only aware that it comes in tablets not liquid. It gave me an upset stomach when I took it some years ago and didn't seem to provide any anti inflamtory relief for my back condition at the time.
  4. Another vote for Wing Tip Wong at Melbourne Uni here. Of course a normal vet that does orthopedic surgery as part of their practice are going to be cheaper then a specalist surgeon but are they going to be as good? Specalist orthopedic surgeons doing these operations all the time and have more training then normal vets but are going to be more expensive. If the procedure is simple that I would probably go with a normal vet who does orthopedic surgery alot but if it is a complicated procedure I would go with a specalist surgeon who not only has more experience bt also has better equipment. It's a bugger that it needs to be done again but things do happen. I just looked after a little puggy for nearly 4 months after she had her second orthopedic surgery. Her first surgery failed after a month with the plate snapping and screws coming out of her bones. Her little leg costs far more them $5,000.
  5. Bath in whatever you normally bath him in. It would be to get any remaining sap etc from the nettle off him. If you have some human antihistamines such as claratyne, telfast etc give him one of those as well. I don't think Sudo Cream would help.
  6. I would bath him or at least bath the area/s. Do you have any human antihistamines? How big is he?
  7. Personally I have come across three black pugs with hemivertibra and one fawn. All with varying degrees of it from having a hunched back and slightly imobalised back legs to back legs that do not work at all and drag out behind the dog. I have also heard of a litter that was PTS. One of the pugs with HV I have come across was PTS at a puppy. Another two are wobbly on their back legs and have hunched backs but have learnt to compensate with other muscles etc over the years. The other one I first saw could only drag it's back legs behind it and was only a pup but the month or so between me seeing it it had begain to try and flip it's feet around and stand up. I don't know about surgery but I think it's not a viable option for most HV. Intensive physio would be the first place to start..
  8. Some poeple have suggested that you can use lose hay/straw as bedding for dogs that like to destroy things. Are the boxer & staffy in the same kennel or are their kennels next to eachother? Can he sleep inside in a crate?
  9. How long has the sneezing been going on? Maybe he is allergic to what he is sleeping on?
  10. What do you feed? Could you just put the liquid in his dinner or something yummy so he will eat/drink it?
  11. Are the people that bred her still showing or available to chat with? They may be good mentors for you and help you get into the showing world . In pet produce shops I have seen many whitening shampoos and products.
  12. KC is like the human flu he is not going to reinfect himself. No need to wash everything. Please keep him confined, in your yard and house, for at least the next two weeks so that he does not spread the KC.
  13. Many older dogs go under GA every day and come out fine. It usually takes an older dog a bit longer to rid the GA out of their system and to bounce back then it does for younger ones. If she is fit and healthy and it is only a minor operation I would not be to worried even though it's hard not to. You can always have pre GA blood tests before she goes under and requests that she has fluids by and iv.
  14. Mine get bannas for treats and I add a few to the veggie/fruit slops batches that I make.
  15. Stay away from carbs that come from cereals/grains.
  16. How often are you feeding and how much? Pups up to the age of approx 6 months should be fed 3 times a day and if you are feeding raw they should be getting 10% of thier body weight daily. What are you feeding? Are you feeding what the breeders fed or something different? Are you feeding in sperate bowls or the same bowls? Pups should be fed in seperate bowls as you will never know who is eating what if you have more thne one pup. What sort of bowls/dishes are you feeding out of? Puppies may be scared of certain bowls. Saucers are ideal as they are low and non reflective. Put the pup in a confined spot to eat it's meal like a puppy pen or laundry. Place the bowl down and leave it there for only 10 to 15 minutes. If it hasn't been eaten then remove the bowl and food. Do not pander to them as this will make it worse. There is a theory of thought that pups/dogs shold see you preparing their food or if they don't see you preparing it you should pretend to eat some of it before you place it down for them to eat. The theory also involves not making eye contact with the puppy/dog once you have placed the food down.
  17. I would go with the others in that she might be peeing on her long hair. Other things could be anal glands, as mentioned, but they smell fishy or a yeast infection which smells musty/yeasty.
  18. Stupid people get conned and will continue to do so. Are they really 'dog lovers' when they haven't taken the time to visit the breeder or do enough research to discover it's a scam?
  19. Is this a show dog we are talking about? The dog is only 4 and a half months old wouldn't you at least give them another few months to fall out instead of putting a small pup under GA? Brachy breeds teeth are all over the place usaully anyway and I would say most will have to have at least one dental in their lives.
  20. How big is the dog? I just spent two months basically 24/7 with a little pug that had had her second major orthopedic surgery. I had to get someone to mind her if I wanted to go out to the shops etc for a few hours. But because she was little I was able to carry her around, have her on my lap and have her in bed with me for some of the time instead of her having to be in the crate all the time which she hated. Her crate had lots of comfy bedding, chew toys that I rotated and other toys that I rotated. She was fed whole carrots and celary to entertain her for some time but usually after she had finished she would tantrum unless I was sitting right near the crate to tell her off. She was sometimes content to sit and nap in there if I was in the same room. I guess my advice is that if the dog hates the crate then someone needs to be with them 24/7 otherwise they will hurt themselves when they are tantruming to get out.
  21. Mmm sounds like a pug that we might see end up in rescue in a few years time or advertised as a good BYB stud dog.
  22. How does the new vaccination routine thinking affect breeders now? In terms of the thoughts that pups should not be given their first vaccination untill they are at least 8 weeks old or older. Will/do breeders keep pups till they are older and have have that first vaccination or let them go at 8 weeks still and trust their new owners to follow the correct vaccination proticol? Parvo has swept through the Victorian pounds in the last few months apparently.
  23. It could be anything. Allergy to grass, plants, carpet etc Insect bite Ringworm Hotspot I would probably bath it in salty water or even physohex (human acnea facewash) and watch it for a few days. If it gets worse or starts to spread then a vet check may be needed.
