  1. I would think that because everything this time seemed to be caused by him swallowing a foreign object it should be all covered. But you never know. Perhaps they will only cover the surgery.
  2. Wow really? I spotted it the other day in Coles and even Priceline if I am remembering correctly. But I think it was only the lower UMF.
  3. If your dog has KC then the antibiotics are not going to help unless there is a secondary infection. I would rest him, no running around, and see if he rides it out as it's like a cold/flu that humans get. Yes if he is throwing up all of the time and absolutley miserable then a trip to the vets is needed. KC can be caught from anywhere other dogs are. Some dogs are more susceptable to it then others just like humans with colds.
  4. Did the vet take into consideration vestibular syndrome/disease at all? The ear infection and loss of balance are classic signs.
  5. Call the vets. Sounds like vestibular disease. Can you put him on a towel/rug and drag him to the car? Or make a sling with a towel and help him to the car? Are any of your neighbours home that could help?
  6. I have heard of dogs getting snotty noses after intranasal vaccination. They are probably 'goose honking'. When this occurs open their mouths and make them breath through their instead of their noses.
  7. I'm glad you persisted and found out the cause of Winston's eye. All the best for the surgery. I would probably email the breeder to let them know what it happening.
  8. The photo isn't very clear. Could be mange or even ring worm.
  9. How about big lumps of meat or offal? They clean their teeth whilst ripping things like this apart. Just a thought. But perhaps he doesn't want to eat bones because he has some rotten teeth that hurt when he tries to crunch down on them.
  10. I woud be concerned as well and would be wanting extra investigations done. If blood clotting problems have been ruled out I would be wanting to have possibly an endoscopic investigation or even some type of scan.
  11. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me. After the failure of the first operation and the second operation being performed Poppy, the pug, came back to live with me for nearly four months. So I know most things there is to know about the deformity.
  12. She looks to have early distal growth plate closure of the radius. Causing the radius to stop growing and the ulna to become bowed because of it. The leg and foot to flip out like a seals flipper. Surgery can be performed either before all of the growing has finished or after. They are still not sure if this a genetic problem, a malnutrition whilst in eutro problem, manutrition as a pup or injury problem. One of my ex foster puggies has this and has surgery to correct her deformity to a degree, earlier this year. She was from a puppy farm. Once she had stopped growing they cut the ulna in half and took a bone graft out of it. They then cut the deformed radius in half and lenghtened it with the graft and put a plate on it. A month after this surgery the plate snapped and the screws came out of the bone so the procedure had to be done again with a graft from her shoulder and a bigger plate attached to the radius and a plaster cast put on her leg. After two months of being either crated or carried around she started rehab that included swimming and physio. She has as little carpal brace she wears now. It breaks my heart that she is disabled but she is happy as larry. Trust your specalist. But really they have the easier job in performing the surgery. The tought work all begins after surery is completed and will be your responsibility.
  13. Ohhh noooo. RIP Fraser. Did the vets even suspect a blockage to start off with?
  14. How old is she? Have you actually checked her teeth and gums? Does she have bad breath? Saying that really a good vet should have noticed any rotting teeth or gum problems whilst intubating but you never know.
  15. Looks great. Basically another form of DR B's BARF patties. There are a few companies/local producers that make similar products. Pet Chow is one around my area.
  16. They usually bleed for three weeks. You can purchase bitch pants that you can put cut up sanitaty pads in that you change at least once daily. Big pet produce stores stock them or there is a company that advertises on DOL that makes them. Bitch Undies Yes desexing can be done whilst a bitch is in season but it's a little harder to do as the tissues are all swollen so therefore harder to cut and stitch etc. Speak to your vet about this. The rescues on heat that I have had we have waited a few weeks after they have finished to desex. But I have no entired males, very secure fencing and the bitch did not leave the house whilst on heat. And yes it's a bit of a shock to the system when your first rescue comes to you on heat. I have delt with several now and have got the taking on and off of the undies when they go in and outside down pat.
  17. Have you tried raw food at all? Kangaroo is very low in fat.
  18. If feeding completely raw then for 6 mont olds you may need to feed 5% of their body weight daily. Young puppies get fed 10% of their body weight daily whilst adults get approx 2% of their body weight daily. With my adult pugs I have found the approx 1.5% of their body weight daily is a happy medium. Many people feed twice a day with bones in the morning then muscle meat, offal, veggie slops etc in the evening. I have found that because my adult pugs only require a small amount of food I only feed once a day. Their diet is on a daily rotational basis feed in the evening. Basically: Monday - chicken necks & veggie slops, Tuesday - fish & veggie slops Wednesday - chicken necks & veggie slops Thursday - muscle meat (kangaroo/beef/offal/rabbit etc) & veggie slops Friday - chicken necks & veggie slops Saturday - lamb or kangaroo bone Sunday - muscle meat (kangaroo/beef/offal/rabbit etc) & veggie slops Puppies I have had have been fed minced chicken carcusses & veggie slops twice a day with a bone for lunch. Link to my veggie & fruit slops ingredients I suggest you do alot of reading on raw feeding so that you can get your head around it properly. Once you understand it you will find it's not that hard.
  19. Only problems I have come across with chicken necks is pugs being guts's, swallowing them whole and choking on them.
  20. I'm glad Boof is feeling better and the new vet was a little more helpful. I would definatley be getting the testing done as soon as possible.
  21. I wouldn't worry to much. Keep an eye on him. Watch him for the next few hours for increased respiration, heartrate, temprature, vomiting etc.
  22. The vomiting blood could be due to either her swallowing the stuff in her mouth or something more sinister like internal bleeding. If you are planning to breed this girl or even get her desexed I would be seriously looking into what is going on before doing either. I have just heard of white dogs that have hemoraged.
  23. I would be a very concerned that she has some sort of a blood clotting problem. The mouth should heal very quickly. The pup doesn't happen to be white does it?
  24. I would probably get it removed. From my knowledge infection can set in pretty easily if a nail is split. I have had two incidences of nails being removed with my pug boy. First one someone trod on his foot and the nail was hanging by a thread with lots of blood. Vet pulled it off without sedation and bandaged the foot and prescribed antibiotics. Second time he got his nail caught under a closing door and it split down to the base with lots of blood. He had to be sedated to have the nail removed and again had his foot bandaged and a course of antibiotics.
