  1. Yes Banjo has always been vocal. He screams when he's excited and he's very talkative .
  2. I have had a similar problem with Daisy barking during stays. What do you do when he barks? I have been giving a NRM so she learns that barking = no opportunity to earn a reward. Do you then set her back up in the stay and stand closer/have her stay for less time so she'll get it right?
  3. Don't be nervous about it Valleywa its just like all the other shows just a little bigger with more international judges just the place to showcase your new pup and a new breed for WA. The country shows usually get quiet a reasonable turnout and you can camp on the grounds at Geraldton and Albany. I'm not showing at the moment as my girl is semi retired and may be on maternal duties for the Western classic but if you need some moral support let me know I'm sure I'll end up down there anyway. I remember how scary it can be when you first start. Feel free to email me if I can help, I don't live far from the Canine centre and you can always do some practice with my girl if you want to. I'm doing the obedience at the Western Classic and it'll probably be our first trial unless we get one in before then so I'm feeling the nerves as well . Still looking forward to it though .
  4. It's just the stays. I think he whines because nothings happening(he's very impatient) and me leaving him. I don't think it's anything to do with the other dogs because he's not very interested in other dogs.
  5. Has anyone else had a dog that whines in the stays? Banjo doesn't do it at home but when we were training at a club he use to whine and if you know Staffords they can really scream :D . I'll be taking him back to the club next year to start proofing before we trial so I'll have to work on it then but he also does it if when I'm waiting with him when my Dad goes out of sight into a shop or whatever. So I'll have to teach him 'quiet' and then 'stay' means quiet without me saying quiet for trials .
  6. It's funny I never thought to change where I carry treats left/right etc but it makes perfect sense now I think about it . I have started using a container to treat from instead of always carrying the treats on me.
  7. I treat with my left hand and if I'm carrying food in pockets/pouch I tend to have it on my left side to.
  8. I agree . 'Work Wonders' is a great book.
  9. I'm still learning about training in drive so some of this goes straight over my head but Banjo's food drive is a big . I actually have a dog that loves to work. Today I could barely get out the door as he was jumping up ready to work. Slightly off topic how many people keep a training journal? I started jotting down my thoughts after training yesterday and it was good to read it before training today just to recap.
  10. I get my turkey wings/necks from Woolworths. Just ask your local one if they can order extra for you.
  11. He'd be ready to change to bigger bones than chicken necks. He's probably started swallowing the chicken necks whole, so he won't be getting the benefits of chewing. Start with chicken wings and go from there.
  12. For those who don't go on Dog Sport Talk I thought I'd post this link. We one day have Flyball. http://www.dogsporttalk.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=765
  13. Okay so I've sent in my membership form . Does the dog have to be measured for obedience? Are the ANKC obedience rules you can download the same as whats in the rule book you can buy?
  14. Pookinuk sell Eagle Pack. Delivery is only $5. http://www.pookinuk.com.au/pet-products.asp?categoryID=72
  15. Cute dogs . I have a soft spot for Rottweilers ;) .
  16. I get mine from Vet-N-Pet-Direct. I buy the 400gm tub. http://www.vetnpetdirect.com.au/JGARDD
  17. I must admit I use to think obedience was boring but now I love it!
  18. at Molly. Banjo only does a half frog.
  19. I assumed the down in the down stay was the same 'sphinx' down that you do in heel work but in the book I'm reading it says to have a different cue for the long down with the dog rolled onto one hip . This was in the competition down section. Is that right?
