Hi all My poor dog, a rescue lab x poodle (Labradoodle) is suffering terribly at the moment. He suffering from both ears being infected. Hes shaking his head from side to side, and it smells terrible, with dark brown pus. I have made several trips to the vet and done everything I can think of and Im just so sick of seeing my boy in pain. He has had 4 doses of antibiotics (General), (2 oral, 2 in the ears), 4 doses of predisilone, and a special ear cleaner which i have been doing daily. I have also taken him to the groomers to have the hairs pulled out to try and reduce the amount of hair in there. Ive been away for a few days, and my mum was watching the dogs, and I have come home, checked him and one ear is red inside, and I think its bleeding from him scratching it (At least I hope thats why!) Im not a fan of a lot of medicine and I was wondering if you have any natural remedies or any on the shelf medications I can use, to compliment the antibitoics? I cant get into my vet until tomorrow, so today, I am just going to thoroughly clean them and keep him calm and warm. Doing some googling someone mentioned "ear clear" "swimmers drops" and "thornit Ear Powder" I dont want to do anything that would harm him further, so does anyone have any experience with any of these? Thankyou so much for any advice you can give me - I just want him to be pain free and it SUCKS

Heya Ive been away with my partner for a couple of weeks and the person who I got to look after my two dogs has basically left them alone. They are matted and need a good shear (Yoshi is a lab x poodle, medium size, Willow is a standard poodle). Does anyone know someone in Perth who can give them both a sheep shear this weekend?? ;) Im really looking at their coats not wanting to upset them!! ;) TJ

A girl I work with (20, lives at home with her parents) are looking to buy a puppy. She posted on facebook on the weekend that she was going to pet shops and looking in the paper. I sent her a message and told her to wait until Monday when I could speak to her I have convinced her not to take these avenues when getting dog! YAY!! So her family have narrowed down to a border collie or a kelpie. They want to buy in WA at this stage and are looking for breeders. I cant seem to find any WA Kelpie breeders Would anyone have any suggestions for me??? Im quite unfamiliar with these breeds. They are also quite open to rescuing a puppy if it suits their family. They are adament that it needs to be a puppy Thanks in advance! (if this is in the wrong place, feel free to move it )

Sorry to hear about this I had to write to my neighbours (Kept a copy myself) that have cats because when I got Willow, I knew of his history with cats and I didnt want to be responsible if he killed one - he and cats simply do not get along. Hope your hand is ok!

They had a discussion about this on Nova this morning I couldnt get through, the lines were always busy - everyone whinging about how they had been attacked but no real reason as to why dogs should or shouldnt have muzzles. IMO its up to the owner to train their dog and understand the behaviour behind the attack and watch for the signs - sad tale

We got to Bali every 6 months or so and this has been the case for quite some time. I have been told by locals that in their culture, they dont see the dogs as they are evil spirits and therefore a lot are ignored. It was quite sad as we were having dinner by the beach and every 5 mins or so heard shotguns of the culling. If they have rabies, im not sure what more can be done as the Balinese generally dont have enough resources to look after themselves sometimes, let alone stray dogs - very sad The people that do see the dogs and have them as pets love them to death We had a taxi driver have one with him once and he was so friendly

My baby dog Yoshi is a Labradoodle... We did a lot of research before buying him, and to be honest, I would have loved to get a standard poodle (As we have now). During our research we found out a lot of info regarding labradoodles. There is a governing body in Australia (www.laa.org.au). We found a breeder through this website. My Yoshi dog is a PAL 4 LBD which means that if the breed ever is recognised, he would be recognised as a "purebred" LBD (I know I got a crossbreed and would never consider him a purebred). The LAA has a huge section on their breeding standards, and the critera we had to meet to get Yoshi was unreal - Im still in contact with the breeder, and she only has a little every 12-15 months with her girl, and she is part of the family. Ooh - found this... Australian Labradoodle Abbreviations ALF 1-6 = Australian Labradoodle Foundation dogs, the number refers to the generation. PAL = Purebred Australian Labradoodle, any numbers following PAL would refer to generation. Purebred occurs after ALF6. TBH as a owner, I wouldnt be advertising them as purebreeds.. :S They arent! I knew what we were getting into when we got Yoshi... PS - He has a wool coat, and is in the picture to the left <--

What method are you using? I wasn't having great success with my Newf where we had to use halters and weren't allowed to use food. I left there and now use food to train her and she hasn't looked back. She now picks up new things in about 3 tries and does it enthusiastically whereas with the other method she always seemed bored and unhappy. You need to both enjoy training if you are to be successful. Using treats - doing the whole make them look up and butt hits the ground... But yosh decides to jump to try and get the treat instead of retreating back!! Then goes around in circles!! The trainer at our classes will keep trying with him. He loves the attention game (Treat in one hand and they have to pick it). Hes just so excited and has a load of fun but he doesnt like to concentrate Doing the heel walking on a leash, he always tries to run and its just one of those things that we have to keep trying. My DH is going to be buying them some new leads that hes looked into (Halti's?? off memory.. apparantly they are awesome for poodles??) and hoping we will have some more control so he listens Hes such a boof! I stock up on whole small fish when they are available at $4-$5.50/kg. The shops on Victoria Street, Richmond, are pretty good for bones and offal too. It's too expensive for dog food (at least for me), but I'm going to ask them where they get it from. I would love to source some cheap game meat. Petcare 2000 in Caringbah usually has kangaroo shanks, which are very meaty. They are around $5 a kilo, I think. They have roo tail as well for around the same price. I don't bother with the chicken wings because they are teensy and still dearer than Cliff from Just Food 4 Dogs. I have found that Williams Meats (or Williams Butchery, not sure) in Mittagong do a pet mince that is pretty much minced chicken frames with a little bit of offal in the mix - possibly chicken liver. Rainbow Meats - South Rd near the Brickworks market. I haven't been there for awhile but they used to be really good quality and cheap also an excellent range of meats. It is a Halal butcher, so no pork but I have got chicken. turkey, lamb, beef and goat from there before. And they used to be happy to cut things to size - eg would cut the beef necks down to size. Also they used to give us extra bags of off cuts and stuff. Sometimes they would be too fatty but often there would be another meal or 2 for 3 dogs in the free bag they gave us. It costs me about $40 to $50 a 2 to 3 weeks for my 2 shepherds and I feed all raw ... Another one for SA is "Kim's Gourment Poultry" located in Tea Tree Plaza. They sell bags of chicken frames, 3 in a bag, for $1.20. They are HUGE frames, very meaty, and all the goodies are still attached. I used to buy from Leonard's, but now I wouldn't touch their stuff ever again, as their frames are always so small and more bone than anything else. The frames from Kim's are at least double in size and weight, and so cheap!!
