  1. My bitch did this too, although I didn't have to go to work, so was able to supervise them 24/7....she stopped doing it in about a week.
  2. Oh so sorry to hear this RIP Grotty Rotty
  3. Yup . . . X 2 Jacqui why don't you put your dog outside or in a crate when these people visit??? It's very rude to be allowing your dog to do this to people, whether you think they are bad people or not. This of course is only a temporary solution, & I agree that you need advice from a dog behaviourist, & maybe from reading your posts you need to see someone yourself. It is appears from your posts that you are humanising your dog, which is not going to do him any favours in the long run.
  4. this has been my experience too!!!!!!!!! Be afraid. Be very afraid I do agree there are some very scary Rotties out there, and even scarier Owners Awww...what a beautiful Rottie!!
  5. I try not to judge a breed as a whole, as I believe there is good & bad temperment dogs in every breed of dog. Having said that, I've been lucky not to really have had a bad experience with a dog of any breed....but I can understand when people are wary of a particular breed, if they've had a bad experience with them.
  6. My bitch has only had 2 litters, both conceived naturally,& both considered very large litters for my breed. First litter was 8 puppies...whelped on day 59. Second litter was 9 puppies...whelped on day 57. Both litters where whelped naturally, no complications,& all puppies where all healthy & survived.
  7. Congratulations, & welcome to Dol. I've only had 2 litters so far, so I'm pretty much still a newbie breeder myself, but I have found this forum to have such a wealth of information, & there is so many experienced breeders here always willing to give advice & support. Good luck with your future breeding program.
  8. My bitch had heaps of milk with both litters,so I didn't need to supplement....but I did use a milk replacer to mix in with their food when I started weaning the puppies. With my first litter I used Biolac, but I found the puppies didn't seem to keen on it. With my second litter I tried Wombaroo, & they puppies absolutely loved it & really thrived. It is very easy to mix up too.
  9. Thank you so much...I have sent you a PM Got it and have made it up to send over the next few days That's great, thanks for going to the trouble of sending me some....looking foward to reciving it, & I hope the dogs like it.
  10. Thank you so much...I have sent you a PM
  11. Well Sherel has now posted me 2 samples of BH,& I haven't received either of them. I've emailed Sherel about not receiving the latest one, but I have not received a reply. Such a pity as I really wanted to try my dogs with it, but don't really want to waste my money buying a large bag of it, without trying them with it first. It does make me wonder, if I'm having this much trouble just getting a sample of it, what will it be like trying to get a bag of it on a regular basis. I really want to start changing the dogs over onto something else, so will be going to my pet supply store tomorrow & probably pick up a sample or small bag of Nutro lamb & rice for them to try.
  12. Thank you so much for this info S n D It was very helpful.
  13. Mmmm....Nutro has it as their 4th ingredient, so maybe not so good.
  14. Yep Jules, that's one of the positive reasons for adding it to dry food, but I would like someone to explain to me why its seen as a controversial ingredient.
  15. Beet Pulp is used as a filler, to create bulk. It has no nutrient content. Apparently, it's a controversial ingredient, but I'm not sure why. I personally wouldn't buy a dry food that contains Beet Pulp because it suggests that the overall quality of the food is low. That's the reason why I started this thread Black obsession, in the hope that someone can give me a good explaination on why its not a good ingredient & why its controversial. I've read opinions from sites that are for it, that its a good form of fibre, but really no explanation of why it is so bad.
  16. I was just wondering what Dolers opinions are on beet pulp being an ingredient in dry dog food. I've done a bit of a google & their seems to be lots of conflicting opinions, some say its not a very good ingredient, & its recommended to avoid any dog food that has it in it, others say its an ok ingredient. I've heard about it being ok for horses, but I'm still undecided whether its alright for dogs. It's an ingredient in some popular premium foods like Nutro....which is a food I'm considering trying my dogs with if Black Hawk doesn't work out,(still waiting on BH sample ) but I'm just unsure about the Beet pulp. I would appreciate all opinions please.
  17. Yep agree with the shampoo RA...Aloveen (oatmeal & Aloe based ) is a good shampoo to try, it is very gentle & soothing for irritaded skin.
  18. Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly. Your breeder should be able to give you a copy of the pup's 3 generation (or preferably 5) pedigree anyway - breeders I've dealt with have all given me those or had them on their website. So you ahould be able to do your pedigree stalking - it's fun, isn't it. :D But I agree - as well as checking with your breeder, check with Dogs Vic on the phone - and they will also be able to tell you whether you can enter a baby puppy with Number Applied For - or something like that. Yeah, I guess I could ask her to email me a copy for the pedigree stalking etc, was also wanting to show her, she fits within the standard so far and I thought it would be fun Was waiting to get her papers and then look at getting into it. I don't know a whole lot about it as yet! Is your breeder putting her on Main or limited register?...It might be a good idea to make sure your breeder is putting her on Main, especially if you are intending on Showing her.
  19. I was just going to post the same thing Allerzeit ...By the time they are 8 weeks old, as sad as it is to say good by to the little buggers, I was absolutely exhausted & so over cleaning up the poo & wee, that I was kind of relieved to say goodbye to some of them. We also couldn't wait till it was only Jasper left (the little boy we kept from out first litter) so we could give him proper attention & bond with him. It's also really lovely to get updates & photos from puppy owners. So it would probably be advisable to try & find homes for some of the puppies before you move Ruth. Are you planning on keeping any of the pups?
  20. Unlike other species..... Well said! OMG...Coffee splurk moment!!
  21. Hi Ruth, how exciting.... your first litter ...I've only had 2 litters, so I still classify myself as a newbie too. I was just wondering if you have a mentor or an experienced breeder that could assist you or be on stand by to call if you run into any diffuculties during the whelping? Having you vets number on hand is an absolute must too. My bitch had 2 text book whelpings with no problems at all, but it was still good to have piece of mind knowing that I had someone to call if there was problems. My bitch has had 2 very large litters, so she slowed right down at the end. I never fed her anything different, other than a couple of drinks of goats milk a day, & upping the quantity of her food. My bitch is also very easy going & didn't mind the whelping box being in the family room from day 1. I put a puppy pen around it for security, so the other dogs couldn't get to the pups. My boy (the sire ) was a funny one...while I know he didn't regognise the pups as his offspring, he was still very protective of them, & would give a little warning growl at the other dogs,(except for Brandy the pups mum of course) if they went anywhere near the pen. I would often catch him going up to the pen & having a quick look, like he was checking if every thing was alright ...& then he would just walk off. I made sure the other dogs where outside, when we let the pups out of the pen when they where still little, & when they got to about 6 weeks old, we let them have supervised play with the other dogs. We had no signs of agression to the pups from any of the dogs. I bought the puppies their own toys, & when they went to their new homes, they all got one to take home with them, so they had something familiar that had the smell of their litter mates on it. Good luck,I hope everything goes well for you, & remember to post up pics when the little ones are born. Nicole
  22. Alot of breeders like to wait till the puppies are older, so they can decide which pups are going on limited register (pet puppies) & which pups will be going on main register (show potential ) Also alot of breeders will wait till the pups are microchipped before doing the paper work , so that the pups microchip number can go on the registration cerificate. So it is quite common for a breeder to post you out your papers at a later date.
  23. Yep I think I'll just reply & tell me to give me a call, rather than wasting my time writing a long reply. If their serious they will call me.
  24. I just opened up a puppy enquiry email, & the only thing that was written was.... "How do I Get on your waiting list?" That was all that written, did not tell me their name or where they are from, no background about themselves or why they would like an Aussie terrier. Just the one line. Should I email them back & tell them to give me a call or should I just delete?
