Thanks settlvr, that's great to hear Looks like I'll be buying extra carrotts in my next shop, for the horses & the dogs.
-
Yeah I was thinking they would be good for his teeth too, bit of a change from giving him a bone. Wow I wouldn't give my horses a full bag of carrotts to themselves all at once, never mind my dogs.
-
Thanks, but I don't have any intention of giving them to him all the time, just every now & then as a treat.

The other day I put a bag of carrots on the floor near the front door, with full intention of feeding them to my horses. Anyway I got distracted with a phone call for 20 minutes, & when I came back to the front door, I noticed that my cheeky Bailey had broken into the bag grabbed one of the carrots & was munching away on it in his bed. He enjoyed it thoroughly & finished every bit & even tried looking for more. So I was just wondering is it safe to feed carrots to dogs this way, or is it better to grate them into his food. He seemed to really love eating them this way, & I wouldn't mind giving him one every now & then as a treat. Thanks Nicole

I use "Rudducks" Just puppies extra gentle conditioning shampoo for puppies (bought from pet stock ) It says on the front of the bottle: A mild, safe & non - irritating tearless formula with natural oils & Lanolin to protect the coat. & yes I am completely rinsing it out.

My 10 month old Australian terrier puppy has a lot of dandruff through her coat. I was just wondering what could be causing this, could she lacking something in her diet.? Is there anything I should be adding to her food to help eliminate this? She is currently being fed half EP Holistic & half raw food diet. She is also given a good brush every day & is bathed once a week. Any help & tips will be most appeciated. Thanks Nicole

Just a suggestion to you, but I wouldn't waste my money with training pads if I where you. Your puppy might be completely different but I bought them for my pup & she ended up just ripping them to shreds!! IMO I think you should just save your money & use newspaper. I also think theres a couple of members on here that have built a doggy toilet using materials from Bunnings. I'm not too sure where the thread is, you might have to do a search. I think it would also be worthwhile introducing him to his outside toilet routine from day 1 , if you want to toilet train him properly, & have the news paper or doggy toilet on hand for emergencies only. Bring your puppy out atleast every 2 hours at the start, or when he has woken up from a sleep, after he has eaten & after he has had a good play. I'm with the others I think maybe you should leave your puppy with his breeder until you start your holidays, as I find that the first 1 to 2weeks of bringing a puppy home is probably the hardest , as they are just settling into your home. I also agree with the crate training, & having a puppy pen during the day, for safe confinement, & for when you just need a rest. Make sure the puppy pen has his toys, newspaper, crate & water in it. Anyway good luck with your pup, & make sure you post heaps of photos of him when he arrives. Nicole. ETA: I don't recommend letting your puppy sleep on your bed until he is properly toilet trained eiother. My Hubby thought that it would be a lovely idea to let our Bailey sleep on the bed with us one night, when he was still a baby. It wasn't so lovely though when we both woke up to a wet bed.

I haven't used mine yet, but it is TERRAOZZI feel free to also add it, if you want. Great idea by the way! -
Glad you stated this thread Westiefan, as I was going to start a similar one. My Bailey has a black nose too, but I have noticed it has started to fade into a dark brown colour recently & was wondering why this could be happening. I feed him Eagle Pack Holistic, so I thought he was getting a balanced diet, but I might add some Kelp In his food & see if it helps. ETA: He eats from a ceramic bowl, but drinks from a plastic, so I might get him another ceramic bowl for his water.

Great News ! Just keep a close eye on him this afternoon, & any sign of him looking sick again,I'd be taking him to the vet straight away.

I hope its nothing too serious, I would be taking him to the vet now! Sending positive & healing vibes your way.

What Do You Think Of Colouring /dying Dogs
Baileys mum replied to roxyporsha's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I personally don't like it, but I don't think its cruel either. Each to their own! -
All 3 of my Aussie terriers are doing great on Eagle pack holistic dry food.

Hi everyone, I am posting this on behalf of my sister, who is not a DOL member & is a little shy to post this herself. She owns a 12 yo male (undesexed) house trained Staffy, that seems to have lost control of his bladder in the last couple of days. He has already wet his own bed, my sisters bed & the couch, aswell as doing several accidents on the floor. My sister has become very worried about this behaviour as he has rarely had any accidents in the house in the 12 years she has had him. She also mentioned that the urine has a very sweet odour & he has also gone of his food a bit too. I have advised her to bring him to the vet asap & she is going to make an appointment to bring him sometime this week, but she's scared to death that its going to something sinister & he will have to be PTS. :D So she was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on what it could be based on the symptons, before she actually brings him to the vet. She especially would like to know what the sweet odour could be. (A friend of hers told her it could be diabetes ). I know its not ideal to diagnose a medical problem over the internet, but my sister would aprecciate any ideas of what it COULD BE before facing the vet. Based on the phone call I got from her this morning my sister & her OH seem to be nervous wrecks about this, so any input will be appreciated, but I have warned her that only her vet will be able to make the actual diagnosis. Thanks in advance everyone :D Nicole.

Vip Supreme Steak Mince
Baileys mum replied to ILuvAmstaffs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I also feed my dogs human grade mince & have tried them with the VIP, however my fussy dogs sniffed it & walked away. :D I ended up throwing it out . -
I give my dogs a pigs ear every other day for a treat, & they absolutely love them. However I'm a little concerned about how sharp the & pointy the edges are on some of them, & was just wondering if they are completely safe to feed. I always supervise them when they are eating them,& so far have had no problems, but was just wondering if any one has ever had issues with them. Thanks In advance Nicole

I use Nature's gift mini treats when I train my Aussie Terrier puppy Brandy & she has never had any problems with them. I have also given them to Bailey ( who can have a sensitive stomach at times ) & he also seems to hold them down alright aswell. Maybe check with your vet to see if the antibiotics have any side affects.

Thank You so much for those links Sas. :D I knew there was supplements out there for raw food fed dogs, I just didn't know what they where. Which one out of those would you recommend the most, or are they all good?
-
Thanks Tess32 :D I will definately go out & get some offal then, & some heart & tongue.

Hi Guys, I have started to feed my dogs a more natural diet, & have found that they really love eating raw foods. I haven't really studied the Barf diet but I have been feeding them, chicken necks, chicken wings, brisket bones, chicken frames, sardines, tuna, raw beef, pork, chicken, & turkey mince. (Not all at once of course ) I have been feeding the mince at night mixed with eagle pack holistic dry, but all they do is eat the mince & leave the eagle pack :D They just hate all manufactured food now, even premium ones like Eagle pack. I've have tried mixing a bit of rice & pumpkin, aswell as other vegies with the mince & they seem to like that, & also add a raw egg a couple of times a week. I was just wondering what else I should try mixing in with their mince. I'm just a bit concerned that they are not getting all their vitamins & minerals due to them not eating the dry food & was wondering if there is a supplement I should be adding. Oh yeah, just incase anyone was wondering, I feed my dogs in the morning & evening , so the other raw foods are fed to them, spread throughout the week for their breakfast & then the raw mince for their evening meal. Any advice on this will be really appreciated, as I'm also a bit concerned that my 17 week old puppy might not be getting all her vitamins & minerals. Thanks in advance Nicole
