Seconary Ear Infection In 13 Yo Dog
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks Ams, that's exactly what the vet explained to my hubby, I don't mind (& I don't think Jessie will care) if she has no hearing from that ear, aslong as it means no more pain & suffering, I think it's the best option for her at this stage. -
Seconary Ear Infection In 13 Yo Dog
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes that's what my Hubby said last night that we should get her looked at by the vets at Werribee & see what they think before proceeding. I think that might be the best option at this stage. -
Seconary Ear Infection In 13 Yo Dog
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Anissa,Thanks for your post We treat Jessie with Advocate monthly & she gets vaccinated every 3 years. She's fed a combination of Dry food (Advance ) & raw. Yeah I was confused why the vet didn't prescribe antibiotics aswell , & wondered why the need for the cortisone, (vet told my hubby it was to treat the inflammation) The vet also said that Polyps won't grow back if the ear canal is removed, (which is what she is getting the surgery for) Not to sure about the homoeopathic treatment, I will have to look into it. Thank you for your advice. -
Hi guys, my 13yo Aussie terrier x has suffered from ear problems for several years now. We have taken her to the vets many times & the vet just keeps diagnosing a yeast infection & that the only thing that they can do for her is treat with ear drops. So they have just givin us dermotic ear drops to treat her, which helps for a while but then it just comes back.Jessie has also had a couple of grass seeds removed from her ear in the last couple of years too. Well my OH had to once again take her to the vet yesterday as her ear seems to be getting worst & she looks to be really uncomfortable & in pain, constantly scratching it & also crying at times too. (She also seems to be going deaf in that ear too. ) So From what my husband can understand from the vets diagnosis yesterday is that the yeast infection has now turned into a secondary ear infection & that her ear has polyps growing inside the ear canal too. The vet said the only thing that can be done for her now is surgery to remove her ear canal, & that we have to be referred to a specialist for this. (The vet is getting back to us tomorrow with the referral.) Our vet said that if we want to,we could also take her to Werribee animal hospital & they could also do the procedure there. Our vet has told us that other than her ear problem & a little bit of arthritis in one of her back legs she is in pretty good health for her age, but if we don't get this precedure done she will surely suffer & most likely die, so we are definately going to go through with the surgery. I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem with their dog & has had to have this procedure & if everything went ok.? I'm just feeling a little worried about her getting surgery because of her age.(Just wan't to know how big the OP is & if anyone can give me some reassurance) Also would we be better of going to the specialist that the vet refers us to? or should we just take her to Werribee? (I haven't had any dealings with Werribee, so not sure what they are like) The vet has also given her a 10 day course of cortisone (Prednisolone 5mg ) to give to her, after this course she should be right for the OP. Thanks guys any Info on this condition & operation would be really appreciated. Nicole

Look in a perfect world you may be right, If my 2 escaped they would love to play with people but people may be scared so that is the dogs fault.. if they saw a large dog off lead they would no doubt run upto it and have a sniff, but can anyone be 100% i think not. What about wildlife do you include this in your thinking? as I can assure you many people with dogs on this forum may have had their beloved pet kill a lizard, snake or bird.. does that mean they are unsafe pets and be PTS? Maybe they were predictable and the owners knew this and housed them correctly.. i'm not entirely sure but the story read as though they didn't know the fence was damaged, if they did then yes shame on them. I agree Geo, my dogs love people & other dogs & if they ever got out all they would want to do is play with them, however when it comes to small wild life then their prey drive certainly takes over. I have witnessed my dogs attack & kill birds & lizards aswell as rodents,& while I certainly don't encourage it, I do understand that they are terriers with high prey drive & I certainly don't consider them unsafe pets or that they should be PTS. I think this case is absolutely horrible & devastating, & I feel so sorry for the owner of the JRT , as an owner of small dogs myself this would be my absolute nightmare & is one of the reasons I rarely take my dogs for a walk out of our 40 acre property. I too pobably would of screamed my head of if this happened to one of my dogs. Do I think the owners are to blame & that they should be charged? It would all depend on how long they knew the fence was broken (if the fence was broken just before they got out, then I wouldn't blame the owners, if the owners had of had reasonable time to know about the fence, then I would blame them as they should of had the dogs locked up or restrained until the fence was fixed ) Without really knowing anthing really about the dogs other than this attack I really can't make a judgement on whether they should be PTS, it would really depend on their history & whether they have a history of getting out & attacking in the past. Just a devastating situation for everyone involved. RIP little JRT.

We are all thinking of you, Puppy Sniffer Jed that was absolutely beautiful & now I'm bawling my eyes out Actually this whole thread is making me cry

Oh Wow Sway that's really fantastic !! I'd love to have a family reunion with all my litter, although not all my puppy people keep in contact, so it would probably be hard to get everyone together.

Puppy Overly Excitable With Older Dog
Baileys mum replied to Lambo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep totally agree with the other posters, the older dog needs a vet check, & also some where to go for peace & quiet from the puppy.I really would not be pushing them together if the older dog does not look comfortable. I have a 13 yo girl & also 3 younger dogs including an 8 month old puppy. While ocassionally the old girl likes to have a play with the younger dogs, alot of the time she likes to rest & have some peace & quiet away from them. We have a bed set up in our study that she likes to go to when she wants time out from the other dogs. -
Yes it is always lovely. I also sent back some photos & update of Jasper (the little boy I kept from my litter ) to them which they really appreciated. I also have 3 puppy owners that I have never heard from again & l also don't want to push them. I just hope that the pups are happy & healthy & that the owners love them. I have told all owners that I would help rehome or take back a pup if they couldn't keep it & I too have made the offer of looking after them if the owner goes on holidays. I would love to see & spend some time with my babies again.

I just received an email tonight from one of my puppy owners with a link to their puppy's photo album full of photos & videos. This particular pup was one of my favourites, & it broke my heart when I had to say good bye to him, so seeing this update of him has really made my night. At the age of 8 months he is growing beatifully & his owner absolutely adores him, makes me feel so happy & proud especially when his owner tells me that so many of their friends love him & want to know all about the breed. I also have a few of my puppy owners on my facebook, & it is always nice to get photos & updates from them. I think this is one of the lovely rewards of dog breeding, after all the hard work of breeding/raising a litter it makes it all worth while. Just thought I would share my thoughts,as I'm feeling very much over the moon at the moment, & I'm pretty sure you all feel the same when you get lovely updates about your pups. Nicole

My dogs get Advance dry food, mixed with raw mince. They will also get spread out through the week raw bones, sardines, & raw egg. I used to feed them Eagle pack holistic dry food, but this was giving them sloppy poos & lots of gas. The Advance seems to agree with them, they now look very healthy, nice shiny coats & nice firm poos.

Do You Think It Is Cruel /neglectful
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Stormie, I just prefer my dogs to excercise in the safety of our property, rather than going out in public & having to contend with irresponsible owners with DA dogs. I still take them out for trips in the car to friends & family, & they also come with us on camping trips / holidays,so they do get exposed to lots of different situations. -
Do You Think It Is Cruel /neglectful
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's exactly the main reason why I don't take my dogs out much, too many agressive dogs & irresponsible owners to contend with these days. Much nicer & safer on our own property (except for the snakes in summer ) -
Do You Think It Is Cruel /neglectful
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks every one for all your replies so far. :p It seems that their are lots of differen't opinions on this topic. I agree that the size of the dogs yard/ property would make a big difference, I also agree that it is very important for a puppy to get alot of socialisation & experiences out of the property. I also agree that some dogs do not like going for a walk. -
Hi guys, I was just wondering what everyone's opinions would be on this topic. I personally don't think it is cruel for a dog to never get taken for a walk as long as the owner can still supply their dog some other form of excercise & mental stimulation every day. I do not walk my dogs every day, but I live on 40 acres, so they get plenty of excercise, they also get regular training sessions & have lots of toys. They also live inside with us & get lots of attention. Some people may think I am cruel for not taking them out of the property every day, but I believe my dogs seem very happy & content. I do think that it would be cruel, if a dog lived in a back yard all day, never got walked or any other outing, didn't have any toys or any other form of mental stimulation, & was ignored by their owner for most of the time. Look foward to seeing everyone's opinions. :p

I would want to know, just in case this person ever asked for another pup from me in the future, & also to warn other breeders of my breed about them.

What is she like with other visitors? Like some others have said she may be picking up on your vibes. I do find my Aussies get very excited when visitors come, especially my male, jumping and running around like crazy things but give them 5 minutes and they settle down and go about their business or if you sit down they tend to just lay down for a cuddle. Yep my Aussies are exactly the same as yours Austerra when we have visitors, & will always settle within 5 to 10 minutes. I also suspect that this Aussie may be getting a differen't vibe of you & is desperately seeking your acceptance & attention. Is it possible that your daughter could put the dog in a crate when you visit, so in that way your daughter doesn't have to put her outside, & she can still be inside to enjoy your visit without actually being able to harrass you. Then your daughter can try letting her out of the crate maybe after half an hour into your visit to see if she has calmed down enough to leave you alone. It might me worth a try anway. Nicole

Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
Baileys mum replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
So sorry to hear of your loss moselle You did the kindest thing being with her at the end. My thoughts are with you. Run free beautiful Sophie :D -
I would say an Australian terrier ticks all your boxes. Big dog in a little dogs body, very hardy & healthy, personality plus, very affectionate family dogs that are easy to live with, easy to train, easy to groom & are low shedding, are not yappy, but will bark to alert us when strangers come on the property. They also seem to love children & get along well with other dogs, my dogs adore my nieces & get along well with my BIL's Rottweilers.

Your pups are absolutely adorable ;) They are making me feel so puppy clucky But my girl is getting a good rest at the moment, so I have to wait till later next year. Enjoy the rest of the time you have with them, ;) are you keeping one?
-
Forgive me saying so, but that's the biggest load of codswallop I've ever seen!!! I've been a registered breeder for over 17 years and have ALWAYS had to do some advertising to sell my puppies (possibly because I don't show). I think that SACA saying that borders on defamatory - implying that anyone who has to advertise must be a BYB. I agree poodlemum, so what every breeder that has a puppy listing on Dol is a BYB? :D

I hope your beautiful Chase will be ok KM, what a horrible shock for you sending healing vibes & hugs to you. There are lots of bees around my property at the moment, I caught my pup Jasper (same age as Chase ) trying to catch one in his mouth this morning. Lucky I was able to stop him before he got stung. We also have a few Brown snakes lurking around at the moment, so we just to be so careful when we let the dogs go outside at this time of year. I will be praying that little chase will make a full recovery. Nicole

Jasper My Australian Terrier Puppy
Baileys mum replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks CW EW, I agree, they are very intelligent, & one of the easier terriers to train.
